I'd like to see Van Dien in a mentor type role, not playing Rico obviously (unless they really change the source material).

Kind of like Micheal Ironside in the first film.

Although I suspect if they did do some kind of cameo nod to the Verhoven film, it would be Neil Patrick Harris reprising his psyker character. I'd be less into this one, nothing against the guy but his career is doing just fine

Casper Van Dien was great in Gamers playing.... himself.

Diagonally related to the topic of Starship Troopers, I assure you.

Well I can do is hope that they make it not only interesting and compelling in terms of actual adaptation though if that doesn't happen I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't see how they can make an interesting adaption of a philosophical discussion of a pseudo fascist state.

I'd proffer its just a CGI fest with less violence.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? The Verhoven film is gold! Just the right mix of exciting violence and camp humour, with a dash of skin for good measure.

Maybe they are thinking lightning will strike twice.

With that any interest I had in this film evaporates.

I'm genuinely curious, why?

Is it you want a generic sci fi flick, not Starship Troopers?

Every time a terrorist dies a Paratrooper gets his wings.

I want a continuation of the Verhoven version, not the Heinlein version (which was far closer to generic Sci Fi with ham fisted political commentary).

So, you consider the actual source material 'generic'. Interesting perspective.

By today's standards it is, aside from its dubious politics.

If that's how you feel, you might want to read the book again.

No there will not. Women are barely in the book. They serve as pilots on ships because they have "better reaction times and better hand-eye coordination". I'm sure the feminists will love it.

Women also have their heads shaved bald to keep their hair out of their faces while in zero g.

For those of you who haven't read the book: It's a boring essay on the way life should be according to a 1930's sexual deviant. There is extremely little to no action and very little beyond the ideas of a fictional military force.

Yeah, the book introduced the world to the idea of power armour and a sci-fi that didn't involve saving martian princesses from galactic warlords but that's about all it had to offer.

The movie (which was an intentional B-movie called "Bug-Hunt") is superior to the novel in every way. Much like "The Relic".

The main action sequence - the one that opens the novel, is a punitive attack on a civilian population - or as it's called today, a war crime.

Have there ever been any proposals to film The Forever War? I find I have to read that after reading Starship Troopers.

It's basically guys in power armour blowing stuff up, alongside what is essentially a training montage.

Now that is a film that I would be interested in seeing.

Yeah my memory of the starship troopers book was basically 2 short battles sandwiched betweenthe first episode of Band of Brothers and no David Schwimmer.

Definitely!

There was a really good graphic novel of the Forever War some time ago, although God-knows where you would find it now or if it is still available.

This one? The [ art by ] Marvano one?

It's not a bad version.
I read the book in high school (which was 30+ years ago for me) - I got the graphic novel series back in the early 90s.

That's the one.

A nice graphic novel, thought it really captured the feeling of the book well.
