I've played three full-size games of 40k over the last fortnight, and in each one I've managed to score a pretty epic Warlord Kill:

== Sisters/ Wolves vs Space Marines - a.k.a "that time I rolled five sixes in a row"; my opponent charges the last surviving Sister from a squad with his Bike Captain, takes a wound from her Meltagun Overwatch, couldn't get a wound past her 6++ save with his power sword, then gets slapped to death at I3. My opponent confiscated that particular dice and wouldn't let me use it again.

== Daemons vs Eldar - opponent is whupping me but only winning by 1 VP. I roll an 11 on the Warp Storm table - his main Farseer fails the Ld test and explodes, plonking a Herald within 12" of his table edge. I'm winning by one VP thanks to Linebreaker when he finally tables me. I still consider it a moral victory.

== Genestealer Cult vs Eldar - The most epic of the three, in my opinion. My proxied Space Hillbillies drag his Wraithguard out of their Wave Serpent by punching it to death. The ghostie-goos try to shoot my Patriarch Warlord and his Purestrains but are out of range, then on the next turn my Magus Mind Controls one of them - he fails to Deny it, and the resulting shot puts 8 unsaveable wounds into his main Farseer. That was the first shot the unit had fired in the game - and the last, because they were subsequently Sawed to death by Acolytes.


I'm sure there are plenty such tales of epic Warlord assassination floating around - let's hear them!

IG versus Space Marines. Chapter Master w/ Vanguard Veterans charged towards the Imperial Lines and my Company Command Squad. I managed to soften him up by killing all his Vanguard Vets (Artillery + Overwatch) but he softened up my Command Squad with a Stormraven (leaving just my Commander).

This turned into a 3 turn duel to the death between my Company Commander and his Chapter Master. Eventually my Company Commander emerged victorious despite all the odds.

IG vs. Tau: I have a Minotaur, my opponent has a commander with a whole blob of marker drones. Turn 1 my artillery scores a direct hit and covers the whole unit, all wounds are successful, and the whole unit is removed without any saves. First blood, dead warlord, and with the pathfinders joining the warlord in hell no more markerlights. I believe the word there is "splat".

IG vs. C:SM: this is before slay the warlord was a thing, but Captain Sicarius attempts to death or glory my Hades drill. He chooses death, and into the wood chipper he goes.

IG vs. CSM: my company commander (last surviving model of his squad) faces off against my opponent's HQ of some kind. My Medusa can't fire at his warlord because mine is too close, so I try to kill a nearby unit. The shot scatters back and lands directly between the two of them. Roll to wound: 1, and 1. Next turn my opponent charges, I fire overwatch. My commander rolls a 1 for his plasma pistol and dies. My opponent rolls a 1 for his demon weapon and dies. I can only imagine my poor horrified survivor committing suicide rather than face the evils of Chaos, while the Chaos lord's own weapon turns on him as the only way to appease its bloodthirsty spirit and/or punishment for failure to kill the enemy.

Nids vs Chaos. 6 barebones gaunts killed Huron Blackheart and his sole remaining chosen bodyguard in CC.

The others would be the two times my BA vindicators scored T1 warlord kills by lobbing a direct hot demolisher shell on Kharn and his zerkers/ Archon with the 2+invuln in a unit of grotesques.

Homebrew Daemonhunters v. Necrons. Inquisitor Lord with a power fist got in a protracted fight with a Necron Overlord and a Lychguard unit, her entire retinue got turned to paste but she lived long enough through an entirely unreasonable number of passed 4++ saves to finish punching out the Overlord and run down the Lychguard for an encore.

Honorable mention for funniness to the Infernal Tetrad Daemon Prince (Tzeentch, Glittering Robe, and +1 Invulnerable save from his warlord trait) who Perilsed and crashed right next to a Land Raider full of Paladins (he didn't have enough time to finish saying "oh, s***").

I was playing Tau vs GK. The GK warlord was a pimped out Libby with the 4+ FNP, IWND armor in a squad of 7 termies. The whole game they are just running around smashing everything they touch.. I have a single HRR broadside who has been taking potshots at termies all game: he's only killed 1 termy all game.. Well turn 5 rolls around and I have 1 fire warrior who survived sitting on an objective, i position him just in LOS enough where he can be charged... he breaks his warlord off from his retinue and lands the charge, smashing the firewarrior.. taking the bait as planned my broadside is set up perfectly overlooking this objective.. he takes aim and lands a hit and wound, insta killing his warlord, causing him to lose the game.

In a game I was playing back when the Dark Angels had the terrible 6th edition codex, a Necron Overlord and his unit, a blob of Lychguard, charged Azrael and his unit. I don't remember if the overwatch accomplished anything, but the Overlord challenged and Azrael accepted. In combat, Azrael just chopped the Overlord into scrap. He failed all of his Invulnerable and RP saves without even getting to swing. Maybe not that epic because Azrael is kind of a monster in CC against anything without a 2+ armor save, but it was memorable.

Another time was when my Khorne Daemonkin D-thirster and my opponent's Khorne Daemonkin D-thirster (who was his warlord) killed each other with a 6 on the D table for each.

12k game, 12' table.

turn 8+~ (To the death), 3 vendettas and marauder destroyer fly up the tailpipe of a nurgle reaver titan. Its D explosion scatters onto Mortarion, his unwounded warlord, which causes critical existence failure with 9 wounds thanks to the D roll of a 6.

Also gave Konrad a fatal nuclear tan.

Tau vs CSM way back in 5th

A few shots leaves my Shas'o stranded alone, and he looks with worry on the juggerlord staring at him.
A successful charge, followed by a few very unsuccessful power fist swings.
My Shas'o then gets into work, hits every strike, wounds every hit, and not a single wound is saves.
Khorne's champion, punched to death by a tau.

Ghaz isn't that good at CC Duels ironically

Game of 30k, my World Eaters vs Alpha Legion. Kharn goes toe to toe with a leviathan dreadnought, survives 3 rounds of combat with it on his own, destroys it then chops a contemptor in half before finishing off a recon squad. He earned his points that day

The best ive managed was having 2 flamers of tzeench being charged by jain zar and some banshees 3 i think, (it was a few years back) so no overwatch due to her mask she and the banshees then procced to COMPLETLY fail to wound the flamers who proced to kill all banshees and wound jainzar and then kill her in the next round all without taking a wound. Of course they then died to gaurdians but tzeench had a laugh.

And yes she is rare to see but it was a fluffy game.

I was at a tournament about a year ago and discovered that apparently the vortex created by my dark angels flyer is warlord seeking. He would move the Eldred to one side of the vortex and the scatter die would point right at him next turn but the distance was always to small to hit him or his unit. Then at the bottle of turn 7 slammed straight into the middle of Eldrads unit and killed him. The vortex spent 5 turns chasing him.

With my necron in their previous codex I had Imhotekh striking my opponents with lighrning, Karhn gets split from his unit to take an objective and immediately gets fried by a lightning bolt.

That was second edition, mind. (If you re-ran the duel today Eldrad would get pasted quickly, on account of not having EW while Ghazzy does)

Thousand Sons vs Space Wolfs 3.0 edition my Sorcerer lord and his retinue were the last unit I had so I charged his HQ unit. We both slaughter each others non HQ models, and during his turn he brings in another squad after that he deals a single wound to my sorcerer. I kill most of his new squad but he aces his morale test during my turn I finish off the remaining part of that grey hunter squad but I get taken to my final wound. Beginning of final turn his last squad he has left on the table charges and I take no wounds, during my turn I finish off the last of his grey hunters but can't wound his hq and his hq dealt last wound to me finally.

Tyranids vs Space Marines his Hive Tyrant charges my venerable dreadnought he rolls 3 penetrating hits his Tyrant only has 1 wound going into this so I told him as long as he doesn't roll a 6 on the damage table your good, and of course a 6, then rolls a 6 to wound, a 1 on his armor save and fails his feel no pain save.

Nope. At that time my Commander had --- Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Carapace, Camo Cloak, Deathmask of Ollanius Pious.
After achieving this victory, I upgraded him to a Power Axe.

Watching my Grey Knight opponent roll a 1 for Perils on his Grand Master, then fail the Leadership Test due to Shadow in the Warp and the Deathleaper's "It's After Me!" rule giving him -5 Leadership. Literally the only time those two rules have ever done anything for me.

6th. ed, a blob of autogun cultists overwatch an Overlord on its last wound, one gets a lucky autogun hit in and wounds successfully. He rolls his 2+ Sv and fails. When it comes to ever-living he rolls and scores a further 1 killing the Warlord. That lone Cultist goes to show that playing too much Call of Duty CAN save your life on a 360 degree no scope .

I killed the Necron lightning bolt guy (Imotekh I believe, storm lord or something) 4 times in the same game with conscripts, both in assault and shooting. I just couldn't quite move far enough to keep him from getting up so the conscripts would beat him up with sporks and shovels only for him to get back up.

Ah, those were the glory days. Send in the next wave conscripts were awesome

So many awesome moments, the RNG gods often bring truly fun to the table.

I once witnessed a Marine tactical squad take down a Swarmlord and his 2 body guards, by outright punching them to death in 3 turns while surviving the onslaught

Since Codex Craftworlds release everytime i dare to make my Farseer the warlord he kills itself (the burden of leadership i think).
Yes soon or later i'll roll a double 6 with 2 dices, then a 1 for perils and LD check with double sixs to blow it's head in a gory fashion. Happened 3 times already and 2 of those granted 1st blood to my opponent.

And the most epic for me

My 1st time facing an Imperial Knight in 6th, the Knight Vaporices my 10man Wraithguard in the shooting phase only the Farseer and a single Wraithguard remains. The Knight tasting a quick victory over the pansy eldar charges over the poor 2 models left.

My Wraithguard roll a 6 for Overwatch, then a 6 on armor pen, followed by a third 6 on the chart, due the Knight Invencible Behemonth rule, it suffers an extra 1d3 hull points so i roll a fourth six!! making the poor machine lost 4 of his 6 HP before the melee starts, the Hammer of Wrath it's stopped by the Wraithguard armor, but the Farseer choose to show herself and due I 5 hits 1st, both attacks lands and thanks to armorbane she's able to make 2 glancing attacks on the poor knight with str 3 (that 2x 10+ rolls) and the poor Knight Explodes before the Farseer destroyed in the blink of an eye.

The Knight following explosion was a hit placed right under the model, but the badass Wraithguard and Farseer manage to pass unharmed the Explosion like nothing....

Saint Celestine took 3 wounds off an invisible FNP Marneus Calgar. It was insanity.

I have one (that I can remember).

Apoc battle with my IG (with a blood angels player as an ally) vs another big IG army with GK allies.

My Shadowsword nukes the bunker the IG Command Squad is hiding in. The whole squad lives but a squadron of my Hellhounds race up the side of the table and unleash all they have into the command squad. Every single guy in the squad dies but the commander (If I remember it was Creed, or at least It was the model of creed). Creed was vaporized with another Volcano cannon blast. I had next to nothing to shoot at the time that was worth the power of a Shadowsword. Most of the enemy tanks were going head to head with my own tanks.

Nice one. As much stick as Marines get, there's nothing quite like watching a 5-man Tactical Squad go John Cena all over a "dedicated" CC unit. There's a reason you pay for that WS4 S4.

I had my Lucky Stikk MA Warboss get killed by a snapshooting Hammerhead (no markerlights either) who fired his Railgun into the Warboss's face and I failed the 2+ LoS and the 5+ rerolling cover save.

I think the only eventful killing of a Warlord was the time a Flying Daemon Prince endured roughly 80 shots of shoota fire with no unsaved wounds. Warboss Vankraken being the boss that he is took matters into his own hands and showed the boyz how its done (I even called it before shooting that the Warboss will show them how its done). Fired his TL shoota at the Daemon Prince hitting once, got the wound, and the Prince failed his saves and then failed the grounding test. The boys then proceeded to charge in and beat the gak out of the prince.

3 way battle: Imperial Guard (Me) vs Space Marines vs MOAR Space Marines

Early on in the battle I attempted to advance forward, but ultimately ended up having to pull back every other turn as one of my SM opponents deep struck unit after unit into my lines.

Second to last turn he deep strikes Marneus Calgar perfectly into the middle of my forces, in between multiple Chimeras and Tanks, then opening fire on everything he could. He thought he was the luckiest guy in the world managing a deep strike like that, then it was my turn.

Two of my Chimeras proceeded to unload 20 Veterans with two melta guns, a flamer, and three plasma guns at point blank range. My rolls to hit then turned out exceptionally good: nearly 30 hits with the lasguns alone. A volley of plasma and melta fire of course followed. Really it felt like more of an "execution" as opposed to a "kill" lol

2nd ed. Custom Belial equilavent. After having his bodyguard killed he found himself up against ork warlord and his bodyguard of nobz all alone. After killing every single nob(last few started to take some luck due to multiple combat bonuses) he finally had to face the ork warlord that had ridiculous bonuses. End result he got splatted by power fist so often that we judged him to be dead for good.

No more Belial in our 40k.

Not exactly a warlord kill, but during a game against Tyranids I set my exorcist on an objective like a good non-moving death organ. I didn't even look at my opponent's deployment enough to realize he had two hive tyrants, a carnifex, and a single venomthrope in a small group waaay in the back. Knowing very little about Tyranids other than that ONE little model that gives everything around him shrouded, I realized it was probably a long shot to ever get to it before his army does too much damage to mine.
I leaned down to see what my exorcist could see...and hoooly crap there was a sliver between all the terrain and creatures..it had a direct line of sight through everything to the little beastie.
I managed to roll a 1. One single missile. And it hits. And he fails the saves..Turn one screwed over his whole army strategy. with a single missile by pure chance.

IG vs Space Marines

SM captain with Artif. Armour charged into my single surviving Missile launcher HWT so I rolled overwatch. Long story short, krak missile torn off his ugly face.
It's imortant to note tht the captain survived horrible punishment from my veterans and emerged unscratched, before charging into the HWT.
