Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

When the Thousand Sons 'recruit' new marines, via resurrection or whatever other kind of recruitment they use, do the new marines become Rubric Marines or do they keep their flesh?

What turned the heresy era marines into rubrics waa because of the spell Ahriman and his cabal casted to stop the flesh change. Since it hasn't been repeated as far as I know that means that any recruits would simply be normal marines.

But if the new recruits did not have the rubric of ahriman cast upon them then wouldn't they fall to the flesh change?

Presumably so seeing as though they haven't been wiped out in 10,000 years.
Also there are stories of the thousand sons summoning the souls of dead marines into the bodies of the living (or dead) to be used to refresh their numbers.

Sounds like they don't recruit, but just get more armour for the "spirits" to inhabit. So it's been the same 1000 dudes fighting this whole time

They do recruit. Source: The Maters, Bidding. Its in the treacheries of the space marines. One of the main characters is a Thousand Son, and a plot point is that he didn't fight in the heresy due to not being born then.

They have to have some way of getting more sorcerers though. Maybe they only take psychic children.

If you allow yourself to be killed and ingested, your soul is forfeited.

They probably screen them from whatever cults they have following them and worlds under their thrall. Also, don't forget they can always poach sorcerers from other warbands.

@grimskul

Probably, I think the fellow in question talked about it (by it I mean the process of selection). The important thing I got from it was that they were capable of creating new marines, and thus it should be possible to create Thousand Sons without psychic powers.
Although they'd probably suffer from flesh change or be turned to dust, because grimdark (seriously, I feel more sorry for regular 1K sons than just about anyone else in 40k, and I love my guardsmen).

I thought the thousand sons forces were extremely spread out, and there were only ever a few sorcerers and/or marines per cult - cant remember where I heard that from though :S

Seems like it would be pretty hard to wipe out 10,000 marines if you have to do it 3-50 at a time.

One thing to remember is the 1000 Sons were a very small Legion, they lost their homeworld and wiped out the geneseed in the Rubric marines along with their bodies. Whatever original geneseed they have left is in their Sorcerers and might not be safe to use at all.

So if they want more marines they have to steal geneseed from other warbands (or loyalists) or deal with Fabius Bile. New 1000 Sons will 99% sure not be of the original stock.

The only thing they recruit IMO are sorcerer leaders, They probably have more rubric marines standing around than having sorcerers controlling them.

They only recruit psykers these days.
I like to think Rubrics get dragged back from the warp and shoved back into their armour. Think of the armour like a way stone that can be repaired or like V1 phoenix armour. Someone puts it on, and gets slurped into the soul of the old armour wearer.

Well, ruleswise it is implied there are Thousand Sons sorcerors recruited post rubric as their squad leader sorcerors are permitted to take a gift of mutation.

Ruleswise the Magister Templi of the Corvidae cult can't use Divination. CSM rules are lazy phoned-in trash. This is well known.

Or the soul of the old armour wearer is just stuck there. You smash up the armour, someone nabs it and fixes it up, and it wakes back up ready for action.

I think Arhriman can sense the old rubrics dust fleeing the armour when damaged. Unlike aspect armour they cant escape into a stone.
So I think they just get some poor putz and shove him in the armour, his soul consumed and bing bang shamwow youve got yourself a rubric.
