Hey all so ive played brets in whf. Wanting to bring them back in AoS.

So ive heard theyre pretty good, combined with other factions such as free guilds and sigmarines. My Q is can they be played as a solo faction? I will usually play 1k points and yes i do have a treb to field so them d6 wounds with -2 rending is a must.

Also

Has anyone else heard any rumors of brets making a come back? From what ive read in the general internet *cant source sorry* that dw was surprised on the popularity of brets when they got discontinued and are thinking to revamp them in AoS sometime......now I have a feeling this is a lie but i do hope its kinda true even if its some units found within the free guild faction ide be happy.

Cheers all

The accurate answer is no one knows. People on the internet claim to know, but largely do not.

You can field Bretonnia as a stand alone faction. You just simply choose all of your models from the Bretonnian warscrolls. Its as easy as that.

Will they come back? No one knows. Bretonnia as a country is dead like the old world. I wouldn't be surprised to see a knight faction emerge, but it would be a knight faction like Bretonnia was a knight faction - not Bretonnia itself.

The rumor, and it is just a rumor, is that when the Free Peoples are eventually fully integrated with their own battle tome, it will be a combination of what used to be The Empire and Bretonnia.

Honestly I doubt it, at least how Bretonnia was. Rumor was a main reason they got rid of them was it was pretty clearly Arthurian inspired, thus GW can't copyright the ideas. There will probably be a Bretonnian-inspired army at some point, but it will probably not be as recognizable as french medieval with a heavy Arthurian overtone.

I just assumed that Sigmarines were the new "Knights of the Realm". I do agree that GW is very unlikely to put out generic Arthurian knights at this point. It's too hard to control your IP when your IP is based on open source materials.

That must be why the tomb kings got removed too.

Anyway, my hope for the future is that they take the best bits from what used to be the Empire and Bretonnia (and Tilia and Estalia...I have Pirazzo's Lost Legion) and mash them all up into a big high fantasy ball. Demigrygh Knights riding in lance formations and pistoliers riding pegasi...OK I'm going crazy but I say that they should go nuts!

Hopefuly a similar faction pops up. I understand the whole ip thing and all but to play medieval knights against fantasy creatures was epic to me. A mash with the other old world order as a new faction would be cool.

If they come back, they'll be unrecognizable because they were so generic in terms of fantasy tropes - and you can buy so many figures that are essentially Brets for almost nothing compared to GW prices (Perrys War Of The Roses are £20 for 40, and are ideal).

I always preferred Bretonnia over the Empire because of their aesthetics. Empire models have too much puff and slash and the knights are too heavily armored without the right character (imo). And the original Bretonnia land and the Border Princes left a lot of flexible room for how to build your army.

The only reason I would want to build an Empire army is if I could recreate an American Revolutionary army, but without a Long Rifle unit, it wasn't so practical and missed the character points.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Yeah, neither Empire not Bretonnia are coming back in a form that looks similar to historical miniatures. I'm guessing a new unrelated human faction that has a new look and feel that can be easily trade marked by GW, but I think in reality the Stormcast are the new Hero-Human faction and new humans will be more minor.

I would like to see a human army show up with something more like the aesthetics of the Griffin army from Confrontation, full of knights, etc.

Since the Stormcast wear heavy plate armour, I'd like the future human faction(s) to wear chain or scale mail, just to differentiate them. Like a sort of power armour and flak armour thing the imperium does.

Oh gods no, I am slowly working on Greatswords and I really wish they'd stick around, the big reason either the Empire or the Brets interested me was the fact that they're humand their historical look.

I see one of two possibilities for the Brets:

1. The Bretonnians will come from the Free People once they establish more provinces and rebuild the kingdoms that were destroyed by chaos. It's very possible the mortal realms were Bretonnian-like with the mention of Duchies, kingdoms and nobility fighting from chargers (ghur-stryders) from the Stormcasts backgrounds, the Stormcasts themselves show a preference for a knight culture as they embark on quests and errantry.

It's possible the Empire Free Guild are the result of Sigmar's teaching in Azyrheim as he instructs them in the ways of his old empire which he has a library of information on. So once settled back into their kingdoms the free people will go back to their older Bret-esque culture.

2. I'm thinking we might see a Bret army come from the realm of light when it gets explored. It's a realm untainted by chaos and armies sent there disappear, so a active fighting force is most likely defending it. The gods of light are Tyrion and Teclis whose previous goddess was Lileath, who was revealed to be the Lady.

So either a mortal kingdom was in the realm of light and was safeguarded from chaos by the duo and will rejoin Order as a knight army of humans and elves or else Lileath's haven was leading to the light realm and Teclis finds it as he knows the feel of Lileath's power.

That's my thoughts on how Bretonnia can be reintroduced into the setting.

GW was definitely planning a high fantasy spin for Bretonnia in anycase, just look at this 2010 teaser artwork.

That would be freaking awesome! I hope the 2nd idea would be the actual patch gw go down on. Its makes sense also cause in 8th most of the brets was talen away by the first king who returned.
