Lots of references to these 2 sons of Khorne having a staring competition atop the Eternity Gate (that Sanguinius apparently held singlehandedly) sources say they looked at eachother and then Angron turned his army around. Lots of people say that Sanguinius spoke to him psychically. But what did he say? Any theories?

I don't think there should be a rational answer to that. Even more than most elements of the Heresy, this "confrontation" is the stuff of legends. I would go for an unspoken exchange between the two absolute warriors of their era (Aside from the Emperor but that's something else), a sort of "mutual" respect, even through this whole treason thing. The romance of the two ultimate swordsman (not romance as love romance, I see you coming), kinda japanese/bushido style.

I guess I could see it playing out that way, it would make sense as well with Khorne being the God of Martial Honour and Sanguinius being...well, Sanguinius. I kinda think it will amount to something though, simply because Lorgar is keeping Angron alive specifically to kill Sanguinius, but when the two finally meet, they just stare at eachother? I think Angron might leave Sanguinius alive because he thinks Sanguinius will spill more blood for the blood god or Sanguinius might show Angron a future where Sanguinius kills him. I'd be happy with any of those three outcomes though

If I recall correctly Angron and Sanguinius weren't in a position to actually fight at that point. Angron calls on the Imperials to surrender; Sanguinius and Angron stare at each other. It's supposed to be a declaration of fighting to the last regardless if words were shared.

No. Angron turned around, told his troops that there would be no surrender and that they should kill them all.
Edit: Seems strange for Angron to even call for a surrender. However, remember his beef is with the Emperor. The only reason he's helping Horus is because it might let him get a crack at putting the big E down. Angron is also a straight-line kind of guy, so if the Imperials had stood down and let him through to take out the old man, he might have been good with that. Khorne wouldn't have been, but the daemon Primarchs aren't complete puppets.
*IF* they were communicating psychically -- and note that's just speculation in the text of that story -- it was probably about the old man.
"He's an a-hole...let me put him down."
"I can't let you do that."
"C'mon, you know he's an a-hole."
"Maybe, but I still can't let you do that."
etc.

I can't see Angron trying to convince Sanguinius to give up old emps. That'd be like Sanguinius telling Angron to put the axe down so they can all talk like rational calm adults xD I dunno tho, I might be biased because I love Sanguinius and I love Angron and would love to see some sort of heated exchange between them.

Sanguinius was on the palace walls when this happened. The gate was later. Someone has to be last through. So technically he held it alone. Calgars done something similar.
Lorgar always said daemon Angron was the one that could kill Sangy.
I think Sanguinius was pulling a Kurze and his mind was wandering down possible futures.
Can he kill him? Nope. Stay here.
Can he kill him? Yes. The daemons kill him or he turns into super khorn. Stay here.
If he goes down there he could make a huge difference at the time. But wont put a chink in Horus' armour. Stay here.

No. "To fight Sanguinius" is the reason he used to sell Horus on the plan. His reason, as stated in Betrayer, was "because he's my damn Brother, why do I need more of a reason than that?"

He does care for him, but then he extends on it and admits to Horus that he has seen a future where Angron kills Sanguinius iirc, may be wrong tho

Damn, in one of the HH novels there is a time when I think it is shown that Sanguinius's presence can actually calm Angron down. Hate citing like this but maybe someone else had read this and will remember.
