Wayland Games are pleased to announce they have acquired Red Beam Designs, as part of the product range from Warcradle Studios.

Graham from Red Beam Designs says: "It is with great pleasure that Red Beam Designs is now with the lovely folks at Wayland Games!

We were flattered, and genuinely very surprised, to have received loads of enquiries from people who were interested in buying our business, but we decided that Warcradle Studios were the right people who we wanted to carry Red Beam Designs forward to a bright future.

I would like to take this opportunity to once again say thanks to all of you for the support and enthusiasm you have shown for Kirsty and me at Red Beam Designs. It's been quite an amazing journey for us and is something we will look back on very fondly."

A range of Red Beam Design products will be available from Warcradle Studios in June.

Kestral - Dystopian isn't planned for release until the latter half of this year. When Spartan Games closed down they didn't sell up the company as a whole, instead it went into administration. So Warcradle didn't get the whole package, plus what they did get was unsorted. So they've had to resort what they've bought and also rebuild their own factory setup. This is on top of updating and redesigning the game system so that they can pair it with their WWE system that they already own.

February saw the release of the first Red Oak terrain from Warcradle Studios, it was so popular that we've released a further three sets of terrain, all part of the Red Oak range! You can now pre-order the Red Oak Distillery, the Red Oak Prospector's Shack, and the Red Oak Crates, Fences and Barrels from today, all of which are supplied primed for easy painting, due for release on Saturday, March 31st.

With these buildings, you can further immerse yourself into the Dystopian Age and add a special dimension to your Wild West Exodus tabletop games. Each piece of terrain has been manufactured in Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF).

Alongside the release of the new Red Oak terrain - a great way to set the scene in games of Wild West Exodus - we have the Angry Mob miniature set!

Make sure to check the whole of March's pre-orders so you don't miss out on any of the new products.

http://www.wildwestexodus.com/pre-order-products/52039-red-oak-prospector-s-shack

Not every home in the Union is a mighty Promethean Complex, mansion or townhouse. Most of the folk who live out in the settlements make shelters out of whatever materials they can find. These rickety shacks, while commonplace are usually temporary and you often see wagons nearby ready to be hitched up when the resident decides its time to move on.

http://www.wildwestexodus.com/terrain/52043-red-oak-crates-fences-and-barrels

A sturdy fence, barrel or crate serves several purposes out on the frontier. The most obvious is to secure property and assist with the transport of goods. For gunslingers and civilians alike, they also make superb cover which they can run between when the bullets start to fly!

http://www.wildwestexodus.com/terrain/52044-red-oak-distillery

Distilleries are an important part of any growing town. A booming industry in the Union frontier, it is highly lucrative being able to supply the good folk of the West a steady supply of hooch, rocket fuel and other more medicinal libations.

http://www.wildwestexodus.com/accessories/52059-angry-mob

Angry Mobs are useful strategic units in Wild West Exodus. Combining the ability to deal a surprising amount of damage with the ability to disrupt your enemies plans as they draw attention to themselves. Uncaring governments, interfering lawmen, mysterious mutilations in the middle of the night... There's a lot to get angry about in the Dystopian Age!

This product contains

4x Angry Civilian Miniatures
3x Bases.

This multi-levelled building is typical of the homes the more wealthy settlers inhabit out West. Not only does this bring about a new gameplay element with its size, the building itself is hugely customisable and is compatible with elements from the Red Oak Residence to create a truly unique set of buildings for your town.

Assembly Instructions.

What's this? Salute 2018 is just around the corner so it's time to announce something very special indeed... Let's give a big welcome to Nakano Gozen - Emissary of the Blazing Sun!

Nakano Gozen has lived her entire life in service to the Blazing Sun - the Immortal Empress Shinzua. As a direct descendant of the Empress with a startling likeness, Gozen has been trained extensively in both the martial and diplomatic arts. While her adventurous nature made her unsuitable for a role at court, Gozen was trusted instead with a secret mission to the American Frontier.

As Emissary of the Blazing Sun, Nakano Gozen's mission has brought her into contact with both the Lawmen and Outlaws in the Wild West. While she is treated with suspicion by the authorities, her skill with the blade and silver tongue make her a valued ally to the Outlaws. Her interest in the activities of Doctor Carpathian has not gone unnoticed by the Enlightened or Union agents either...

Nakano Gozen is the new promotional resin miniature by Warcradle Studios, for Wild West Exodus.

Nakano will be released at Salute 2018, at the ExCel London, and available for purchase from our stand (TE10) for £13.00. After this, she will be available to purchase at events attended by Warcradle Studios - so you'll be able to get your mitts on this brand new promotional miniature from the Warcradle Studios stand at UK Games Expo, Gen Con, and Tabletop Gaming Live this year - as well as at selected Trailblazer events.

Not attending? Feeling like your missing out? Don't worry!

We will be making Nakano Gozen available to purchase online during events attended by Warcradle Studios! Initially, she will be available from our online store between 09:00 and 21:00 BST on 14th April 2018 while we are at Salute. Her next appearance online will be during UK Games Expo at the start of June!

Nakano Gozen is our promotional miniature until 2019 when she will become part of our regular catalogue of fantastic miniatures - available to all!

Dang it, you guys are finally going to make me have to make an order from across the pond!

A shame (in some ways) that she won't be plastic like last year's Captain Nimue, but the model looks quite nice.

Will she be on a small or medium base? Looks like a 40mm, but what do I know...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

The game isn't out yet so it's no surprise that the community is quiet! There's not much to talk about for Dystopian Wars until the build-up starts for the Open Beta this Summer. You can expect plenty of sneak-peeks in the run-up to it of course!

The membership of the main DW FB groups seems to be growing, not shrinking (which would be the case if that were true).

Though the half-dozen who have left will no doubt spin their own narrative, largely most of the concerns boiled down to the removal of third-party sales posts and a push against the expectation Warcradle has that on the official community pages people will be well behaved and speak to each other respectfully. Not exactly front page tabloid stuff, but for some, it was a change to how things had been before and so was unwelcome.

Warcradle staff have come across as a bit adversarial on FB / a couple of other forums, getting into heated arguments with dystopian wars fans. It seems like an odd approach for a company. I don't think it helps that there are some hardcore fans of the Spartan game, and where people were hoping for warcradle to pick up where Spartan left off they seem to want to change everything about the game, making sweeping changes to the fluff, model range and by the impression they give off the rules. Most people just want the old models available again.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

All the unofficial groups were co-opted by Warcradle and brought under their control. Anyone who disagreed with anything at all got the phrase "while we don't mind criticism, it must be constructive" but, apparently none of the criticism was ever considered constructive. Staff were at times rude and abrasive. And those who agreed with them on everything were allowed to get away with rude posting behaviour that others would not have.

While the overall group numbers went up, that doesn't mean a decent chunk of people didn't leave. I know just before I left I'd see lots of discussion threads with people's names marked as no longer being members. Thankfully, a new fan group was setup after the last of the previous ones went under their control.

To be clear, I didn't have a problem with Warcradle originally, it was the FB behaviour that turned me off (I actually own 2 WWX factions).

Sadly, they made similar sweeping changes to WWX as well which is one reason I left that game.

I was wondering if we would ever see some representations of Jeremiah Johnson, Rooster Cogburn, Dances WW, Little Big Man, Crow nation, Preacher, The Man with no name, etc.

Here's a quick step by step on how Warcradle Daz painted the awesome new Wild West Exodus terrain!

To kick off, I undercoated the model black. No photo here (who needs a photo of a black building, after all).

STEP ONE

Build up 3D effects with grey.

I use an airbrush but you can get very similar effects using a spray can. If you're using a brush, get a big ol' one inch round and stipple on the paint in thin layers.

STEP TWO

To increase the 3D effects, once again, I go in with white.

STEP THREE

Glaze the entire model with a Sepia Wash (approximately 7 parts water to 1 part paint).

I repeat this three times for a deep colour shift. I am still using the airbrush here but, if you do not have access to one, you can purchase weathering sprays which achieve a similar effect or go in with that big ol' brush - just don't let the glaze pool up.

STEP 4

Grab a decent sized brush and pick out individual planks with a selection of different brown washes.

For this model, I used a red-brown, yellow-brown, dark brown and black brown. I tend to make my own washes from P3 paint but there are loads of great alternatives out there. Once again, don't let the wash pool up.

STEP 5

Pick out the metallic areas. Take your time as it's very difficult to clean off slips. All metallic areas were painted in P3 Pig Iron.

The Brass areas were painted in P3 Brass Balls.

YOU'RE ALL FINISHED

See more images of the finished General Store on our blog here: https://blog.warcradle.com/blog/paintin-the-town-insert-colour

These should look great on the table top for now!

I'll be looking at how to take things to the next level with weathering and detailing next time.

Until then - happy paintin'!

You can find all of the Red Oak terrain on our online store, or from your regular FLGS or online stockist!

With the end of the month drawing near, it's time to reveal the next release for Wild West Exodus!

This month see's a new building open for business in the town of Red Oak. With the release of the grande Red Oak Bank at the end of the month, residents will finally have a safe place to store their cash. But, with notorious Outlaws hanging around, who knows for how long...

The Red Oak Bank is due to be released on the 28th April.

Make sure to check the whole of this months pre-orders so you don't miss out on any of the new edition products.

http://www.wildwestexodus.com/terrain/52556-red-oak-bank

In the American frontier, the bank is not just a place to keep your dollars. Anything of value, from gold bars to family heirlooms, from Sturginium deposits to refined artworks can be safeguarded by the town bank. Such protection in the Dystopian Age does not come easily or cheaply, In times of crisis, the bank can be one of the most fortified and well-defended buildings in town - at a price.

This product contains:

1x Red Oak Bank Building
Optional signage for a Red Oak Town Hall
Assembly Instructions.

Please note:
Scenery items are manufactured in Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF).
Buildings are supplied primed and some assembly will be required.
