Aka: the 'suck it, templars' list.
This list is mostly for giggles, but I also sort of do planning on building it - I already have most of the mk4s, and I just need the praetorian bits.
It will run at the shooty, run f- I mean stand heroically against the choppy, and flail ineffectually against the vehicle spam.

I have two things to say to this list:
1) Do you actually hate everyone near you?
2) Your opponent brings a Spartan and some Fliers. What're you going to do?
|
3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

1: A little. It would be kind of amusing to watch them try to chew through 120 Tactical MRI es. Call it a dps race!
2: run on objectives and scream a lot about the Primarch and marching for Macragge. Also, melta bomb the Spartan and then dance on its fiery, burnt out remains.

Assault cannons aren’t assault weapons,
Heavy flamers aren’t heavy,
and Meltabombs aren’t melta (just armorbane)
GW can be so fun sometimes
While I love the concept of the Blue tide, I think a more TAC list is the order of the day. It’s what the Primarch would want...

Rowboat would certainly approve of a TAC list, preferably with a few assault squads and maybe a heavy support squad, or two. Perhaps a demi-company is the order of the day.

I was thinking of dropping a tactical squad or two and throwing in some quad mortars with shatter shells.
I mean, why take a missile launcher team when you can take quad mortars?
They can't possibly kill all of us! For the Emperor!

Dropping two tactical squads gives you 6 quad mortars and some spare points. That'd certainly scare vehicles from a distance.

The lascutters are because they are essentially a power fist in close combat. Losing the attack kind of sucks, but they are hidden powerfists, no?
Though I guess they'd be hitting on fives... hmm, I'll have to think about it.
As for Suzerains, couldmplay a shattered legion list, and have Pollux or someone evading a shattered legion Stone Gauntlet. :p

Yeah, they are probably going to cut a hole in the side of a tank, but a Melta Bomb can do the same(and they still blow up stuff with Armoured Ceramite). The only think you are getting out of a Lascutter is that you could potentially cut apart something that isn't a vehicle or MC. I prefer Graviton Guns since you get to keep the range (even if it is a piddly little amount) and Haywire is mean in 30K.
To each their own though. My Breachers will be more "Come at me, Bro" than a lot of other armies are. I really should give the Sergeants Power Fists. Otherwise Polux and my Tartaros Terminators are the only units sporting Fists. I think I should make a custom Praetor in case I never end up getting Polux.
Honestly though, your first list was much meaner than the Breacher list.

Yeah, the main reason I was thinking lascutters over a gun is because with 12 other power swords I want to run at them anyways, and there probably isn't a point where i want to stop moving.
Maybe meltaguns for blowing up Rhinos and transports, then chopping what's inside, but...

That's definitely true. Given the rest of the make-up of the squad, the Lascutter isn't that out of place. I really hate the cumbersome rule though. I suppose you aren't losing out too much. Godspeed on your charging shenanigans!

Wait patiently for FW to make them, since they are making Ultramarines boarding shields.
I'll either use prospero mk3s or get some mk4s off eBay depending on how the shields and swords are sculpted.

That is pretty much my plan as well, though I want Imperial Fists shields.
There is a shop on Shapeways that makes shields for reasonable prices. They even have a shield that looks like a Suzerain shield available. Automatically Appended Next Post: Honestly, Crazyterran, I would give that Shapeways shop a look. Shapeways has a 25% off promo code right now (type SMALLBIZ in the promo code section).

I liked the 120 Tacticals at 2000, so so mean, but not un-fluffy... makes me want to try this with my IW, 60 down 60 to go , though admittedly I think Ultras make better use of their legion tactics in this list than IW would.

Of course! Walk up to their face, rapid fire those suckers, and then pile on if they get charged with bodies.
You throw enough attacks, even if they wound on 6s, you can mob just about anything down.

Mean? Until someone rolls up with a Typhon and some Phosphex Quad Morters, promptly erasing the army in a few turns.
This list has no reliable anti-air, anti-tank, or ...anything even fun about it. And it is slow, un-maneuverable, and spammy (a crime in 30k circles).
For shame!

I mean, and taking more than three quad mortars in a list, especially with phosphex, is typically even more frowned on than spamming tactical marines would ever be. Throwing a typhon on top just adds to the cheese!
I mean yeah, the power gamer units tend to beat the tax units, even if the tax is taken enmasse.

Death Guard and Iron Warriors have zero reason not to run loads of Quads and a Typhon, as it is well within their fluff. So, while its kinda a dick move, at least it is fluffy. And not unbeatable, either. 30k has that awesome balance-through-abundance thing that I am digging.

Flyers and Drop Pods, for sure. Day of Revelation armies, as well. If they don't pack Shatter rounds on the Quads, vehicle-heavy armies will prove tough unless they pack enough anti-tank in with it. Even then, Shatter won't deter a Flare Shield Spartan, which it can't actually hurt. For specialty army rules, Death Guard gets a 4+ FNP against Poison weapons. And don't forget Cybernetic Resilience, which forces the re-roll. So while yes, against a lot of armies ~6 Phosphex Quad Launchers will be painful, don't forget that with Shatter rounds and the mandatory Siege Breaker, that is about 620 or so points. Not a small investment and it takes up 2-3 of your Elite slots and an HQ slot and can really only put down 2-3 units a turn if you bunch them up. Just got to get creative when dealing with them.
Nothing is unbeatable in 30k, it seems.
