Subject: Primarch Helms?
|
 |
Been Around the Block
|
At present none of the primarchs have a helm as part of their gear, for some reason these supposed super geniuses still haven’t worked out that it might be worth protecting these rather important areas .
Now my question is would anyone like forgeworld to release a unique helm for each primarch that can be used instead of them going bare headed into a warzone. If the answer is yes then what would you expect each helm to look like and what sort of ability’s do you think each would give? For example we already have the Lion Helm that gives a 4++ save to all models attached to the bearers unit but what about the rest?

I understand the reasons for wanting a helmet option for the primarchs but I quite like the unhelmeted versions. To me, having them helmet-less shows defiance to the enemy as thought they are saying "even without protection, you can't defeat me!" which in turn distils confidence to their troops. I think the primarchs can get away with it because of how naturally tough they are. However, I hate having regular marines without helmets, especially if they are in terminator armour. Why would you bother to wear the best armour in the galaxy and leave your helmet off?
|
“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I think some of the primarchs have build in forcefields protecting their faces/heads. From what I've read in the HH books I know Peturabo has a field protecting his face in the Logos, but Fulgrim definitely does not.

Fulgrim's Helm was described as Winged in the books, so I'd expect a Mk IV style helmet with Wings. Corax probably has a Mk VI style helmet.

Horus definitely has a helmet. When the assassins were sent to kill him they didn't realize that it was a body double because he wore a helmet. And that was normal

Pretty much every Primarch owned a helmet, and quite often wore them into dangerous or toxic combat zones.
However being unhelmeted helped their legionaries morale.
And also I suppose it looks more iconic on the models.

Each primarch had a helmet as part of their armor set (the war in space too). However, the art and minis reflect non helmeted primarchs Fo a couple reasons:
1. Shows Fearlessness
2. Legion morale, exhuberates leadership
3. Character for models (facial expressions, hair, eyes, etc)
4. Power fields in their armor, ot toughness and skill
Helmets show no emotion, character or expressions, etc. This is why they have made so many marine heads without helmets too... to add character to squads.

I like no emotions though. Ergo any Marine character I made has a helmet and just enough uniqueness to not need bling. I hate bling.

Doesn't Fulgrim get shot in the head and he just shrugs it off.
I think Rule of Cool trumps Rule of Practicality here, but when I was playing marines everyone wore a helmet. Mostly because I hate painting flesh.

It would make sense for them to have had them, both for protection and to allow access to harsh environments. Ceremonially too. However I can totally see that for the drama of the artwork and models it makes sense to leave them bareheaded, no matter what Kroeger thinks
As someone who is terrible at painting flesh though, I'd love a helmeted option to save me ruining my expensive centrepiece with a botched facejob.

By the way, have you seen Fulgrim's long, full head of hair? If I had hair like that, I'd never wear a helmet either. Apparently, the Emperor forgot to fiddle with the male pattern baldness gene, because far too many Primarch's are bald.

Better than the few Primarchs who have wires jammed into their skulls like Angron and Perturbo.
Lorgar definately shaves his head, Horus seems to be the one with balding issues. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, could you imagine trying to lock a helmet down with that much hair.

The real reason why Fulgrim joined Horus:
Horus leaned in close "Pssst. Hey Fulgrim! I must show you something my brother, but you must keep it secret," he spoke in hushed tones.
"What is it friend Horus?" Fulgrim asked, intrigued.
Horus hands Fulgrim a small container. Fulgrim opens it, and the wonderful smell of roses waifs out.
Fulgrim looked very excited. "This smells fantastic! Tell me Horus! What is it? Where did you get it?!?!"
"This is the Ultimate Shampoo and Conditioner. But it comes from Terra, and is forbidden by the Emperor for use by us. Have you not noticed how our Father always has perfect, shiny hair? . He would have us all use the cheap, industrial shampoo or even just shave our heads! You remember what happened to my hair after Davin? I beseeched our Father, but he is silent, leaving me to this... " Horus sighed, looking away and gestured to his bald head.
Fulgrim, overcome with emotion, reached out and grasped Horus' shoulder. "Twas a dark day indeed friend Horus! I fear each time I wash my Luxurious Locks with that... substance. And our Father truly did nothing? This is unacceptable! How can he expect us to lead without a full, flowing head of heroic hair?!? Why, friend Horus! Why?"
"Indeed! Do you remember the expedition to retake Murder? How Sanguinius had such perfect hair despite the conditions on that planet? Many attributed his success during that campaign to his beautiful hair surrounded by his wings. The Emperor allowed him to use this."
"I knew it! There is only so much that genetic engineering can do! I have longed for hair like Sanguinius' ever since! So perfect! So flowing, shiny, full of volume! He has rebuffed me every time I complimented him on it, never sharing his secret with me," he said in anger.
Horus knew he had Fulgrim now. Turning his dark gaze to him, Horus placed the Ultimate Shampoo and Conditioner in Fulgrim's hand, and closed his own hands over it. "Follow me Fulgrim! Follow me to Terra to and confront the Emperor and his perfect hair! Follow me, and I will make sure you will always have this!" he squeezed his hands tightly.
Fulgrim, tears streaming down his face, chocked back a sob. "Yes my Warmaster! I will follow you to the gates of Terra itself and demand the Emperor give us this Ultimate Shampoo and Conditioner!"
