Subject: Age of Sigmar Starter Set - Worth getting it now?

So my main focus when returning to the hobby was going 40k but it seems like the rules are a bit too complicated for my liking and I wanted to start AoS.
I was thinking of Eternal Stormcast or Khorne Bloodbound and found out for basically the price of one Start Collecting! Army box I can literally get both the Eternal Stormcat and Khorne.
I only planned to choose one and expand but since I really don't know which I want to play I figured I'd go for this set.
Now, I have a couple of questions. I have absolutely no idea about AoS.
1) Is this Starter Set worth it? Are the models that I get inside efficient? (Or is it a bit out-dated?)
2) Which of the two armies (Eternal Stormcast and Khorne) is more difficult to play?
3) Are the sprues for the models inside the clip-on ones (similar to the really basic beginner paint set versions) or the regular glue-on so I can adjust the pose etc.
4) If the set isn't worth it, any other suggestions to get started?
5) Are the AoS models bigger than the 40k models in general?
6) Will there be more releases for AoS coming soon? Because it seems like a lot of the models are old WHFB models (from the website)... And not a lot of Start collecting! box choices atm...
Also, I did have some general ideas for the armies...
I'm not a big fan of huge monsters or anything but I'd like my leader or general (not sure with the correct term) to be the guy who does a lot of killing.
For khorne I was planning to build the army around blood reavers (I also have the slaughterpriest model waiting to be assemble and painted from the sept White Dwarf) with maybe 1 Blood thirster?
And for Eternals I wanted to plan around hit-and-run style with the Prosecutors.
Are my army ideas viable?
Thanks for any advice / help guys.

Its not a bad set to be honest. I don't play with points so cannot speak to that, but the starter was a nice thing to have just for the books and models, they are glue together. the stormcasts are terminator size.

Now, I have a couple of questions. I have absolutely no idea about AoS.
1) Is this Starter Set worth it? Are the models that I get inside efficient? (Or is it a bit out-dated?)
The starter set is worthwhile if you want to collect either stormcast or khorne bloodbound. Some of the hero models cannot be found elsewhere and they have nice rules especially the ones for khorne. I do think for the stormcast side, it's best to buy the starter set and then complete it with a Start Collecting! Stormcast Box. That will give you 1100-ish points for matched play. If you are only planning to collect one army, you can sell or trade the other half.
2) Which of the two armies (Eternal Stormcast and Khorne) is more difficult to play?
Khorne is more difficult to play. Khorne bloodbound relies a lot on its hero buffs and synergy to get the most out of it. It is also quite a more engaging army to play, but most competitive armies can easily snipe out your support characters making it difficult to win with. Stormcast can usually stand on their own and have some of the crazier battalion (formation) deployment rules.
3) Are the sprues for the models inside the clip-on ones (similar to the really basic beginner paint set versions) or the regular glue-on so I can adjust the pose etc.
All sprues on the starter set require glue, they are not snap-on, but rather they are more like their easy-to-build line, where every model has only 3-6 parts that have pretty much no options for customization. The good news is that most of the models in there have their most efficient loadout except for a few special weapon options that are allowed for every 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 in a squad.
4) If the set isn't worth it, any other suggestions to get started?
It is worth it if you plan on collecting either stormcast or khorne bloodbound. Also before you start collecting any AoS army, you might want to check out the free rules for the units. There is an AoS app for iOS or Android, or you can download the scrolls from the GW webstore. The ones with start collecting boxes are the ones that are easiest to collect.
5) Are the AoS models bigger than the 40k models in general?
Stormcast Eternals are TEQ, but that's because of the fluff behind them. Khorne bloodwarriors are around MEQ sized, but that's also more or less fitting. The scale is more or less the same, but a lot of them are larger than average because that's how they really are in the fluff. Grots (goblins) are still very small, and dwarfs are still short and stocky despite looking tall because of the mohawks.
6) Will there be more releases for AoS coming soon? Because it seems like a lot of the models are old WHFB models (from the website)... And not a lot of Start collecting! box choices atm...
Most news I read say that there will be more releases soon. There might be some crossover release because of the upcoming tzeentch release for 40K (the tzaangors were clearly intended for AoS, but got added to Thousand Sons as an afterthought, with the chainsword and pistol on a separate sprue), and there are rumors of a steampunk dwarfs release to go alongside it. If you will believe that AoS is selling better than WHFB (some claim even 40K), there should be new releases soon.
Also, I did have some general ideas for the armies...
I'm not a big fan of huge monsters or anything but I'd like my leader or general (not sure with the correct term) to be the guy who does a lot of killing.

I think hit and run style prosecutors are better with the javelin variant. Stormcast are more of a hammer/anvil army AFAIK, but you can try and play a fully winged army and see how it goes for you. You will still need liberators or judicators for battleline in matched play, though. Khorne mortals and daemons also mix quite well because most buffs only need the khorne keyword. Good luck and have fun with AoS!

Thanks for the replies.
If I'm leaning towards just doing Khorne Bloodbound, should I still get the Starter Box or the Khorne Start Collecting box?
And is it possible to add Khorne daemons (bloodletters for example) in my Khorne Bloodbound army?

If you are going with khorne, it is still better to go with the starter box as that will net you the bloodsecrator and a couple of battleline options. The bloodsecrator is a must-have for any khorne army. And it is possible to add khorne daemons and still the bloodsecrator's buff still works because it only needs the 'khorne' keyword to make it count.
From there you can go with more bloodbound with the SC bloodcound box or maybe the new battleforce box that's coming out. You can also branch out to daemons with the SC box, add a few more bloodletters to that and maybe a bloodthirster as your centerpiece.

The starter box still contains a few models which haven't had stand alone releases, like the Khorgorath and Mighty Lord of Khorne. Since the kits in the starter are monopose without customization, it makes more sense to start with them. Future Blood Warriors and Bloodreavers (which come in abundance in the SC and Battle Forces) can then be built with alternate weapons and poses for a little variety. But it is ultimately your decision, so start with the kits that you find most appealing.

Is a good idea to try to get the current Battleforce: 40 miniatures, and in any case the Start Collecting box too.
Both of them gives you 6 Juggernauts, 20 Blood Warriors, 20 Bloodreavers, a Slughterpriest with Hackblade and Wrath-hammer (the same from, White Dwarf, since he is not a named character you can place two or more), an Aspiring Deathbringer with Goreaxe and Skullhammer, 5 Wrathmongers/Skullreapers and Skarr Bloodwrath, all of them around 30-40% off if you buy directly.
With the Khorne Bloodbound miniatures form the Starter Set will net you an army of almost 2000 points to play matched games, and a HUGE display army of 83 miniatures.
Is also worth mentioning that you could get the Gorechosen game for 4 additional Khorne Bloodbound heroes at an extremely good price.

i don't know much about bloodbound, but the set is very good for stormcast, cause lot of units inside (retributors; liberators, prosecutors) are staple of any stormcast army : you'll have a hard time to find one without those dudes hangin around. The two characters are very good too (you NEED the relictor for the big battalions), even if the celestant on dracoth is sometime overshadowed by his on foot counterpart

If you are talking worth in money value, and don't want to go the $150 Canadian route you can always try this for $40. Country location of course would affect the price.
IF you want to start smaller, try this.

Honestly, no.
For one side, is cheaper to buy a Bloodreaver box, for the other, to play the other units you need multiples of five.
Storm of Sigmar is more of a demo game.

It's totally a demo game, but it's the best product I've seen for introducing people to Age of Sigmar. It comes with a series of really fun missions that slowly ramp up the model usage. It also pairs well with the larger starter. 2 Retributors + 3 Retributors = the five you'd want for future games.

Of course is a demo game, but Overdose is more interesed on the full scale game and Khorne Bloodbounds.
Also you can get 2 easy-to-build Retries from the SE SC!, plus even more guys.
Certainly an accesible demo game, but not an ideal starting point for an army.

Looks like a new option might show up. How about Aelfs (elfs) or Skaven? Looks like the last Fantasy box set is being rereleased with those minis. Does that interest you at all? *edit* Island of Blood boxset I believe it's called.

Island of Blood boxset I believe it's called.
Yes, Blood Island has been discontinued for years, but it wouldn't make any sense because that was placed on the Old World, the world that blew up at the End of Times.
From where you took that re-release rumor?

Woah, that's really cool (although I really dislike that hawk gryphon personally), but then it is not really IoB, but updated for AoS box, with round bases and warscrolls.
Still an interesing move.
