Single Player Mechwarrior 5 Announced

Announced at MechCon 2016, Piranha Games is taking MechWarrior back to its singleplayer roots with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Slated for a 2018 release, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock took the stage to reveal the first footage of MechWarrior 5, which is being developed using Unreal Engine 4. You can watch that demo in the video above and head over to MW5mercs.com for more info.

Though details are scarce, what we do know is that MechWarrior 5 is a completely standalone singleplayer game being developed by Piranha Games using a separate team than the one currently supporting MechWarrior Online, its multiplayer-only CryEngine game that went into open beta in 2012. MechWarrior 5 will feature "intense PvE ‘Mech combat in an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice."

One - HOLY feth YES
Two - PGI? Womp womp.
Three - HOLY feth YES

Honestly, it's almost 2 years away so this video will probably mean very little by then but man, I'm excited. Maybe by then they'll have VR support?

Obligatory PGI hate message: Oh look, PGI's making it, I bet it'll cost 60 bucks and then you'll have to pay 30 bucks for each mech afterwards.

We'll see how it turns out. I'm more interested in the Battletech video game that I backed on Kickstarter.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

That is a very cool idea I hadn't even considered.

Giant mech fights are probably one of the top three reasons I'd buy a VR kit - here's hoping PGI goes big.

I urge people to look up the old MWO videos and see what that was supposed to be like before getting too excited for MW5.

I enjoy me some MWO, don't get me wrong, but it's not what it could have been.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I have no faith in the team making this but, the scope of the game seems interesting.

3015-3049 is a lot of ground to cover. We've got 3rd and 4th Succession Wars, the Marik civil war/Brush Wars, the Ronin war/creation of the Rassalhague Republic, the War of 3039 and the very tip of the Clan Invasion (no doubt the sequel).

If all of that's in there, with a dynamic 'go where you please' style of game play (that doesn't end with repetitive mission types), then it will work.

If it's No Man's Mechwarrior, then forget it.

I was in a skype call when my friend linked me this. The other person in the call very much enjoyed my squeeing at this wonderful wonderful announcement.

This is basically my dream come true. I love the crap outta MWO (I've purchased quite a few mech packs) and I can't fething wait for this to come out.
