The book also contains A LOOOOOOT of other stuff! There are two gigantic Ad Mech formations and two Decurion-esque Detachments that let's you build your army by taking 2-4 HQs (from diverse list like a SM Librarian, an AM Engineseer etc.) and 4+ troops with 0-6 slots for every other category. The first decurion is just Ad Mech units and is called the "Grand Convocation". All vehicles gain IWND and if they are in 6" to at least one HQ they also gain Power Of The Machine Spirit.

There are also 6 new Artefacts for both Mechanicus and Sisters Of Battle. However, if you take Cawl, then one other character (so even your Librarian) may take an artefact from the Mechanicus list. Same for when your army has Celestine in it.

I really have a hard time believing this. "All vehicles gain IWND and PoTMS" are the parts that make me raise an eyebrow.

It really reads like someone combined bits of the Iron Hands with a wishlist.
Onagers can get IWND as an upgrade right now(Cognis Manipulator), Ballistarii have one weapon that they can fire, etc.

Knights are Vehicles. That formation gives you 0-3 LOW. Obvious choice is to select 3 Knights, 3 Enginseers, Cawl and then spam rangers for the 4 troop taxes (Giving you all 8 for the Canticles). Easily fits in 1850. Could probably fit even more.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

consider that (iirc) PotMS lets you fire weapons when shaken/stunned, as well as dragoons can have 2 weapons, and that there are knights and non-onagers in that list for the IWND. But overall, yeah, it seems kinda weak.

So how did Caida fall with rules like that? I guess that is what happens when GW plays. Anybody else using these rules, Cadia wouldn't have fell then.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Chaos might get even stronger formations (yeah right) in the next book.

In the white dwarf battle they did they didn't really show how badly it went for the chaos player but all 3 new characters were alive at the end and Celestine didn't even go down once in a 5000+ point game.

Might get Cawl just for some Knights fun

Celestine have been resurrecting since the 5th Edition. Lucius doesn't resurrect immediately its a painful and prolonged process that would take place on the battlefield. The problems with Lucius us his AP3 weapon, lack of "goog" defensive abilities, and not having a good way to get into combat. Give him and AP2 at initiative weapon and the ability to force enemies to re-roll successful saves in combats, and FNP 3+ and he'd at least be decent.

Roll a D6 1-5 result the enemy character carries on as normal, on a 6 the enemy character dies and is replaced with Lucius

That'd be fluffy, no?

Sorely tempted to get the Inquisitor.

Fall of Cadia – Detachments and Formations

gath-storm-header

With Traitor Legions pouring from the Eye of Terror, the gargantuan war machine of the Imperium lumbers into action. When roused to war, the full power of the Imperium is terrifying to behold. The new Fall of Cadia book contains several new ways to use your Imperial forces in a game with new Formations and Detachments.

The Triumvirate

gath-storm-125

We’ve heard a little bit about this fearsome trio already in our video spotlights on Belisarius Cawl, Inquisitor Greyfax and Celestine. There is also the option to feature all three in your Imperial army (and if you have all three, why not!). While powerful fighters all, these heroes’ best utility perhaps comes in their ability to bolster the rest of your forces to commit super-human acts of valour and bravery.

Mars United*

gath-storm-126

The Conclave Acquisitorius is the army of Belisarius Cawl, here in a Formation that represents the force at the time of the 13th Black Crusade. As befits a Tech-Priest of his standing, characters in this force have equipment that is a marvel to even other scions of Mars, and each carries a master-crafted weapon of some sort.

More powerful though, is that the Formation – composed of Skitarii, Imperial Knights and Cult Mechanicus, with Belisarius leading the way – has access to a mix of abilities from all of those armies – this is the power of the Adeptus Mechanicus at their optimised best.

But if you want to form your own grand army of the Mechanicus, you can do that too, with the Grand Convocation Detachment. Where the Conclave Acquisitorius represents a historical force, this Detachment allows you to field any combined Adeptus Mechanicus force. As you might imagine, the vehicles that a Forge World sends to war in such a force are among the most deadly in the Imperium, every one of them gaining Power of the Machine Spirit when starting near a character in the force.

Crusade for Cadia!

gath-storm-127

For those of you who prefer faith over the forge, there is the Wrathful Crusade – Celestine and Inquisitor Greyfax at the head of a combined Black Templar and Astra Militarum force – the army that faced the spearhead of the traitor attack on Cadia.

Again, for those who want to lead their own crusade (we’re looking at you, Black Templars) there is a Castellans of the Imperium Detachment – where Space Marines march to battle with Guardsmen, Adepta Sororitas and the full might of the Imperium’s armoured support. Loads of Imperial armies can use this, though it favours a troop-heavy assault force, as it grants Hatred to all its units and the ability to bring back fallen Troop units, representing the sheer size of the Imperial War machine and it’s near-limitless manpower.

So there you go, just a few of the new rules in the book.

And we haven’t even started on the 12 new relics, the Empyric Storm table and the new missions (one of which will feature on Warhammer Live this week).

You can pre-order the new book here, or pick it up in stores this weekend.

Incredible. Fans have clamored for combined Admech detachments since the books first dropped. And now there will be an imperial soup army that favors troops? I love man spam armies. What a time to be in the hobby.

So it looks like we don't need a combined Mechanicus book as the detachment in this does the same job.

Hoping it is a normal detachment rather than a Decurion style as that should allow easy intergration of the 30K Ad Mech stuff when the rules are released.

I wonder how long it will be until someone finds the cheesiest troops spam mashup army and it becomes a prevalent thing.

This could be good or bad.

Easy, IG platoons that are 1 Command (With Heavy Flamer+3 Flamers), 2 Infantry Squads (AutoCannon+Flamers), and 5 Heavy Weapon Squads With your Heavy Weapons of choice.

Keep the Command Squad and Infantry Squad Cheap. Command Behind the Heavy weapons, The infantry plus SM Tac/Crusader Squads/"flavour you enjoy" in front to screen them from enemy melee units.

You have have a bunch of heavy weapon units you can respawn when they get killed, Use the Fire+Move Order to help them keep shooting as they come on the board.

Their is prob better, but off the top of my head.

I couldn't tell you if it's still valid. The last Apocalypse book I have is Imperial Armour.

This new one isn't. It's a Detachment, not a Formation.

I've had a hard time following this. Where exactly do Sisters fit into most of this?

Are they just basically Celestine and the Twins, plus a few units added to a Admech/Imperium group?

We don't know what exactly Castellans of the Imperium calls for. It sure seems like a mishmash, but if I had to guess, you could take SM+Sisters, SM+Guard, or SM+Sisters+Guard. We'll have to see; the makeup of that detachment is very interesting

I am looking fordward to read the book in any case, and one of my buddys is an IG guy - this will bring lots of fun to future battles.
