So I was recently talking to a friend of mine who threw a rumor at me. Add salt to taste.

Apparently he was chatting with a GW rep and in the conversation some "New Blood Angels" models were mentioned by said rep.

My friend pressed the question, asking him essentially "Please tell me they're updating the ancient Mephiston sculpt?" which, according to him was met with a long pause and then a hurried "... I can't go into detail."

No idea how soon this may be, or if it's even legitimate, but I can say I trust my friend to be honest about this kind of thing.

That, and as we've seen with Eldrad, Kharn, and most recently Ahriman, GW is starting to replace the most ancient of their old models with new plastic hotness versions. Mephiston, Dante, and Corbulo are all quite old sculpts that are all candidates for a re-do. Another needing an update is Abbadon to be sure, and I'd expect to see a re-sculpt for him with the rumored Fall of Cadia happening after the first of the year.

If it happens, which model would you like to see? Dante isn't much of an option in my opinion since you can make a damn fine plastic kitbash version of him using Sanguinary Guard bits if you're so inclined. (My eventual plan, personally speaking). Corbulo is also not critical in my view, as his sculpt, while old, is still decent enough. That leaves Mephiston as the logical front runner. I'd love to see what the design studio can come up with for him. I hope to see a much more dynamic pose for the Lord of Death, personally.

Let the wanton speculation commence!

Take it easy.

Edit: There is precedent for this, also. Compare the old Lemartes model, (I'm in a Wind Tunnel!!!) to the MUCH improved modern Chaplain Lemartes sculpt. A marked improvement.

I would be okay with that. A new Mephiston would be very welcomed by me. I actually like Dante's model, so I would be okay if they left him alone.

But honestly, I would rather if they gave me a new Crimson Fists Captain Cortez. The Deathwatch Codex talks about his rescue from the Dark Eldar, so he should be back in the fold of the Crimson Fists. And they certainly need him!

Oh yes, a new Captain Cortez model would be very cool. The OG super tough "Eternal Warrior" model, and characterful if they are indeed doing the one minute to midnight thing with the story and Rogal Dorn makes a reappearance with the Lion to combat Magnus & any other traitor Primarchs returning.

Exciting times to be sure.

I really hope that any new character sculpts look as good as Ahriman. His updated 40k model is amazing.

Take it easy.

Tau: Both Farsight and Shadowsun updated. If I had to pick only one Farsight since I think Shadowsun's model holds up better. Tau have lost a lot of special characters over the years and gained few. I would like to see O'Kais, a new space pope, unique Kroot, and unique Vespid. Basically more GW morreee.

Dark Eldar; Vect! Vect! All the other DE characters who were gutted. Again new characters.

Deathwatch: Techmarines are incredibly important to the Deathwatch (in the rpg especially) more so than any other chapter out there. It's about time and needed. It would be cool to see a character and generic hq dual pack. Without Techmarine support they have zero chance on undercover missions involving xenos tech needs the best they can realistically bring to a firefight.

Dante is too small and skinny these days, in my opinion, and i would love a new plastic version...
i have kitbashed him twice from the Sang Guard box, and would happily do it again, but his unique jump pack is cool, and there is only one appropriate axe in the SG box...

Mephiston is a must!!!
the dynamic, flowing robes that Arhiman has would look awesome on Meph...

Corbulo is Finecast now, so i would be very happy to see him get a plastic kit

i have a Red Thirst for these minis, but if this is a false rumor, there will be some serious Black Rage

Assuming this is true, would GW drop new models of such well known characters without a campaign book or codex release?

Plastic replacements for the ancient Blood Angels sculpts (and the Dark Angels ones too) would be welcome, and not totally surprising.

I had wondered if the Fall of Cadia campaign wouldn't be a good opportunity for GW to kill off characters still in metal/finecast whom they had not replaced in plastic.

What you did there, I see it.

I too am very much wanting to re paint my old Dante mini but I agree he needs to be bulked up to the level of Sanguinary Guard to really 'fit in' with them, especially with the new Golden Host formation.

Ahh I was not aware of these... I will need to purchase them once they release! Thanks, and lends credence to the concept of releasing a new model for one, if not both characters to coincide with the book release.

Well not normally, but with the above novel releases it could prompt them to update them. We saw the Death Company Chaplain single mini released as a stand alone product earlier in the year before being introduced in Angel's Blade very recently.

I strongly suspect we will see a New Abbadon mini soon (personal speculation) based on the Fall of Cadia. Would be a great opoortunity to update a lot of characters from the Imperial ranges, such as the old sculpt Blood Angel characters, Azrael, and a host of others that need to be updated.

We'll see I suppose. Take it easy for now.

The last non-book release BA got (model/models) was the new Death Company Chaplain miniature which was just a single stand alone clampack mini that didn't get rules in specific until much later.

We already have rules for all BA models available so this would literally be a straight model update. That said, Blood Angels may play a role in the Fall of Cadia if there's a campaign expansion. BA certainly had a bone to pick with Abbadon during the last big chaos incursion, the Eye of Terror campaign. Blood Angels got some bonuses when within range of the Claw of Horus that Abbadon now wields. etc. (The weapon that killed Sanguinius.)

If Abbadon is featured as the main antagonist, we may see the Blood Angels mentioned/used again in a similar way as the Eye of Terror campaign.

Would be a cool way to feature a new Dante and/or Mephiston.

Hurry up January...

Take it easy.

Man I'm excited. Hope this holds true. Didn't expected that much BA love after the last codex. First the shield of baal and just recently the angels blade book. Would be great if a new dante and or Mephi would be on their way.

Even though I know it won't be, I just really want Tycho to get updated rules, and what better way to do that than release a new model for him.

Of course no doubt this rumoured release is related to the Fall of Cadia and wider Black Crusade Campaign, and Tycho is already dead in the fluff by that point.

Agree mosrtly. The BA characters are still fine in isolation, but put them next to anything froma 3rd ed plastic onward and they look like midgets. Plus only being available in in Failast basically makes them unpurchaseable. I care not a jot if they other doing Astorath in plastic.

I prefer to kitbash my Special Character stand ins so they're unique to my Successor Chapter, but cool models to use as a base are always welcome so I hope this pans out.

By the way the new(ish) Sanguinary Priest model is Corbulo in all but name (look at that chainsword and grail), so there won't be anything else for him.

So I gleaned this from the Plastic Sisters Rumors thread, brought over from B&C and posted in Dakka by our own ClockworkZion

Ishagu wrote:

Ok, so I've had a 'conversation' and am going to share a few tidbits:

-From what I understood the book will actually feature most if not all Ad Mech units from Skitarii and Cult.
-There is a big AdMech formation that includes a Knight, one of the Bonuses is weapons lose "Gets Hot" This may well be the War Convocation from the old WD.
-Trazyn is indeed in the book, and he's an ally to Imperials though I couldn't confirm if this was just during Campaign Missions or through a formation.
-In the book there are missions that are very similar to those in AoS - another hint at the direction GW will undertake with 40k

Now the more interesting stuff:

-This Black Crusade will be a grand undertaking by GW and will see about 2 years worth of book and model releases.
-Abaddon is getting a new model, likely in the next book or the one after. He is the same size, roughly, as a 30k Primarch. Actually he's about the same height as Guilliman on his smaller game base.

Emphasis added via bold text.

It seems more whispers of an updated Abaddon are coming down the pipe. Hopefully more updates and rumors will be coming that bear credence to special character resculpts for the likes of more big name characters such as Mephiston, Dante, Azrael, and the host of other old sculpts that are slowly being replaced it seems.

More info as it comes in. Take it easy.

No, only that it came from Bolter & Chainsword forums and was posted by a guy named Ishagu there, according to ClockworkZion here on Dakkadakka.

It was a copy/paste from B&C from what I gathered. I simply quoted the quote here and added the bold to the last point under - "Now the more interesting stuff:"

Beyond that, I'm working off of information I got from a friend which I detail in my opening post.

If I get more information or a solid rumor link I'll add it here of course.

Hey, I'm all for every old school named mini getting some new plastic hotness love.

Certain minis have aged wonderfully, one of these is Typhus in my opinion. He's always been an awesome mini.

Others have aged very well, but with the recent increase in marine size and scale plus the increase to 32mm size bases, they tend to look a little stunted. Examples of this are both Dante and Mephiston, with Dante being more pronounced of the two.

I'd love to see Lucius the Eternal, as well as Doomrider and other named Chaos minis get new miniatures. Heck I wouldn't mind seeing a plastic Typhus but I don't know how one would improve that mini much. I like the new Kharn (It doesn't thrill me but it was an improvement over the classic metal mini) and the new Ahriman is jaw droppingly good, and that's with his old model being one of the better looking named character minis in the CSM range after Typhus.

Really, Abaddon needs to be updated. With the pace GW is pushing now, I expect to see the new Abaddon start being teased within the next 30 to 60 days at most.

After that, it's anyone's guess, but one thing is certain, GW still has a lot of old models that are in need of the Kharn/Ahriman/Eldrad/Lemartes/St. Celestine treatment. Hopefully they'll keep sending more revamped Character models our way.

One thing's for sure, I'm looking forward to seeing what's next after the jaw dropping new Lord of Change model that just got revealed.

Take it easy.

Quick update that may possibly point toward this rumor.

The artist who is in charge of the Gathering Storm artwork, thus far showing Abaddon, and the Yncarne, made an interesting statement regarding the third books artwork currently in progress.

The article in question image:

Specifically he says: “I’m still working on the last piece but I plan to make it brighter and more golden, like a spark of hope in a galaxy of darkness.” - Paul Dainton

Golden could allude to a number of things, for sure, but one of the most recognizable golden armored figures in 40k is none other than Lord Dante of the Blood Angels.

Could be something to it, might be nothing, but there is precedent to let the Blood Angels be opposite the Black Legion from the Eye of Terror campaign from years gone by during the initial telling of the 13th Black Crusade. Plays into the classic Horus vs. Sanguinius battle at the end of the Heresy as well as the premonition/prophesy that Dante has had and is often referenced in the fluff, specifically of being the golden figure standing against the darkness at 'the end'.

A quote from the Dante Wiki:

"In the Time of Ending, we will see the final flight of the Dead Angel’s Host. They rise above us on howling wings. They fall upon us in a celestial storm. At their vanguard flies the Last Archangel. To the Neverborn, he will be the Death-that-Soars. To you and I, he will be a mortal man bearing the immortal face of his fallen father. To the Imperium of Man, he will be hope. A warrior of infinite courage. A soldier of infinite sorrows. Beware the golden mask that forever stares and never smiles, weeping tears of frozen gold."
— From The Mourner's Prophecies, by Sargon Eregesh, Storm Oracle of the Black Legion

From the same wiki under Dante's Final Duty:

Recorded in the Scrolls of Sanguinius are the Primarch's visions of a great battle to overshadow all others. This vision was predicted before his death at the hands of Horus, that a lone "Golden Warrior" would ultimately stand between the Emperor of Mankind and His destruction. Many Imperial scholars have assumed this prophecy refers to Sanguinius' own stand against Horus aboard his flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, during the Battle of Terra at the end of the Horus Heresy. Through some inherent instinct, perhaps a lingering trace of his Primarch's fabled far-seeing eye, Dante believes otherwise. One day, perhaps one day soon, the defence of the now-helpless Emperor, who resides trapped on His Golden Throne, will rest in Dante's hands, and he aims to fulfil this final duty

I'm curious to see if the 1 minute to midnight sets the stage for this looming battle and a possible showdown between the Lord of Angels and the Despoiler.

Guess we'll see what we can see.

Take it easy for now.

Is it not more likely to be the Sanguineator or whatever he's called than Dante?

I mean he fits the same more fantasy than sci-fi feel they seem to be going with.

Plus he is effectively the Marine version of Celestine.
