Is it any good? Should I go for it as a new player? Or should i stick with Gaurd?

The slate only includes 4 entries, one for each assassin type - you would be better off picking up imperial agents for a range of options to include alongside your guardsmen.
It does have all the same rules as the data slate.

You can just add 1 or 2 Assassins to join your Imperial Guard and still have a fluffy and fun army.

They are fun , easy to add to your army but slightly over costed. You can add as many as you like to your army, so if you like them just buy one and get the rules for them.

The Inquisitors in Imperial Agents are a solid buy for other armies. Forget the Assassins and the Dreadknights, just stick spare 55-pt three-wound divination psykers who get an extra Warlord Trait everywhere.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Agreed. The Inquisitors and cheap psykers are where it's at. If you really like the concept of assassin's though you could run the 4 from assasinorium and add in a small detatchment of sisters for the ordinary xenos assassin's as well

Toss one or two into your guard. I'd recommend the vindicare cause he can be pretty fun, plus being able to snipe out special weapons from squads can be pretty useful.
