Subject: [1850] - Magnus/Cabal - Competitive?

Hi guys,
trying to come up with strongest list using Magnus without deamons.
My list idea:
CAD - Thousand sons (1000pts)
Sorcerer - MoT spell familiar, Aura of dark glory(Together with mark and detachment bonus he will be on 3++ anyway), Bike 130ps
2x MoT Cultists 120pts
Magnus 650 pts
Fortification - Void shield generator +2 shields - 100pts
Allied detachment (360pts)
Juggerlord, Axe of blind fury, Sigil - 170pts
Cultists - 50 pts
Spawn x5 - 150 pts
Formation - Cyclopia Cabal (490pts)
Sorcerer - Bike, +2 ML, Sigil, Spell familiar, Melta bomb - 175pts
Sorcerer - Bike, +2 ML, Sigil, Spell familiar - 170pts
Sorcerer - Bike, +2 ML, Spell familiar - 145pts
My idea was to run Magnus in CAD - which is the cheapest way, together with allied deathstar of spawn with Juggerlord and Cabal sorcerers.
Difficulty i was having playing this list was not geting first turn and getting shot to pieces before i had chance to power up - i would try to mitigate some of this by adding void shield - i had to cut some Mastery levels and sigils in order to do that but i think its worth it.
Also i think playing objectives will be weakness of this lists with only 3 units of Cultists - But so far summoning Chariots every turn with Magnus had great results for me fighting this issue
Thoughts? So far i have only very limited experience playing against any strong lists so any suggestions are more than welcomed

Allied detachment can't be the same faction as the primary. Also where is the Disciple of Change spells listed.... is it in the Daemons codex?

It's in curse of the wulfen, and I think the updated edition of chaos daemons.

Magnus alone wants around 20 WC to get the most out of him. You've got 15 including the Sorcerors who want a bunch to stay alive.

You could take a similar allied detachment, with some tweaks, by using Khorne Daemonkin.
You don't get the axe, but can take hounds, which i feel are superior to spawn. Automatically Appended Next Post: Does the tzxeentch sorceror have any extra levels? dont relay on the detachment bonus if you are only casting one tzeentch power. as the tzeentch sorceror can't join the khorne units, i'd drop all upgrades and treat him as the tax he is.

You are right - i was so used to allying in Crimson sloughter or KDK that i forgot about it

Good point with Tzeench sorcerer - issue with hounds is i simply dont have points for them in this list...
Thanks for comments guys - so i would change the following:
Strip Thousand sons sorcerer of all upgrades and give him jump pack - simply because i cant afford the 5 pts more bike costs and i would still like to run him with rest of the deathstar - its still body and if needed can eat challenge or sumthing
Change the allied detachment to Crimson slaughter - same set up but instead of Juggerlord i would put in sorcerer on bike +2MLs, Spell familiar, sigil and Daemonheart - 200 pts
Those changes would make it legal first of all, putting me on 1850 - and would give me extra 3 warp charges (18 in total before rolling) - the new sorceror would serve same purpose as juggerlord did with 2+ save and rolling on biomancy ideally..
Thoughts to those changes? I was also considering instead of the fift sorcerer keep there crimson sloaghter juggerlord with daemonheart LC + PF - thats 205 so i would need to drop one melta bomb which is no biggy - i think Sorcerer synergies better with Magnus and Cabal but im little bit scared of stuff like culexus or sisters... sorcerers are done against them but lord can still roflstomp them..

I see you your point - but thats the beauty of Siphon Magic - as long as you keep Magnus within 18" of Sorceror you will get alot of dices back - and i mean alot, i already played variation of this list and i was getting even 10 extra dices turn (Thats inclusing Magnus casting too though as far as i remember)..
I can imagine that with pink horror siting in the backfield you wont utilise the Siphon magic as much - but i havent played him with daemons so i cant really tell...

People tend to forget Siphon magic, as it's new. I'll be rolling at least one, maybe TWO LOC next to Magnus, probably rolling pure Change so I can give them all Siphon as well as Summon Chariots opposed to horrors.
|
Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.
I have a problem.
Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

I don't think he meant have this LoCs cast Siphon, but rather have Magnus cast it near the LoCs. Now when the LoCs use powers, Magnus gets extra dice.

Regarding the allied detachment, Crimson Slaughter are still faction CSM, so can't be in an allied detachment with a csm primary

It is possible in some cases for a Faction to alley with itself. Space Marines with different chapter tactics is an example, so is Crimson slaughter. I would imagine that the Traitors legions would have similar wording, but I wouldn't put it past GW to "forget" that notation for them.

They did. And i would encourage EveryOne to message GW about this glaring and unfair oversight.

Well, let's just keep the perspective that it only takes another 50pt Cultist unit to make a Allied detachment into a CAD. Oversight or not, it isn't that big a deal
