Why would Genestealers get left behind? They just had a coded refresh, didn't they?

Yeah but they did so so sales wise, and they are kind of a one off. I'd much rather the next edition double down on tyranids, who are one of the coolest IPs GW has, but then again I like HR Giger's work so I might be biased.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

Have we seen any evidence of 8th yet? It's all rumors about a June release so far, correct?

Jup its all that as far as I know. No real evidence, except some lets say strong hearsay from rumor mongers who might be GW employees claiming that we should not be afraid since it will differently not be AoS and some indirect hints about the date..

But then again if I was GW I might jus do the same, even if it was going to be a AoS like transition. No need to panic the cash cow for it might stop buying stuff ; )

The same rumor mongers that told us fantasy was getting a space marine like faction and being rebooted. Corporations float all sorts of ideas as rumors to test reaction/prepare customers for upcoming products. Rumors are just another marketing tool for them to use.

But those rumour mongers were right: we got sigmarines and an overhall of fantasy. Why shouldn't these rumours be correct?

If you're worried about a faction losing its power or becoming irrelevant, than play either Eldar or Space Marines, they'll always be strong and supported armies

As a relatively new gamer, I also share your concerns about redundancy, but for me, it's more about the books than the models. Having outdated, or out-skilled models isn't an issue for me, as I'll only ever buy models that look beautiful to me. I also don't ever intend to be anything other than a firmly fluffy gamer, so I'll almost never intentionally use "top tier" models anyway, but I'm still hesitant to pay €33+ for a codex that's probably been cut in half anyway, only to have it replaced a few weeks later.

Also, marketing is "anathema" to Games Workshop.

They destroyed Fantasy, and released that dumpster fire of a game they call AOS.

I'm not buying into another End Times until I see the result.

Yeah but fantasy was like 40% of their operating cost and generating something like 10% of their revenue.

GW is becoming more profitable with their new CEO and 40k is a big part of that.

From what I read yes. I would even say it's not rumours, but just speculation, and some of our "guesses" have been circulated so much that "turned into rumours". So far the 100% who get rumours correct or are really reliable, have not said a new edition is coming in June. I can't even recall now they said a new edition is even coming, but I could be wrong on that part though.

Would be nice if someone can link Lady Atia or Sad Panda or anyone else saying a new edition is coming and if so, when.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

It was Sad Panda who said 8th will be coming this year.

There's that one 40k novel where the character visit a city built over a magma pit. Of course there's no handrails or anything. They ask the natives if anyone ever falls in and what they would do if it happened. The guy says something along the lines of "eh, just don't think about it."

Good advice. Just enjoy the time you got, nothing is certain. The sound of the gijon shosa temple bells echoes the impermanence of all things and all that.

Thank you. Memory is fading on me a lot sadly. So that is where I got it from.

That was my point, the rumor mongers were right about those outlandish claims, and not much happens with GW that we don't know of in advance. I think we will get our first initial announcement of 8th ed in april if the timing rumors are correct. So we only have to wait 4 more months to see if we are right.

I can't believe the amount of drama in this thread.

To my knowledge, nothing important has ever been axed from 40K, and yes, that includes stupid dwarves in space.

Ever since that incident, the biggest thing to happen was that some models were replaced by others, while being great count-as.

40K isn't getting AOS'd any time soon, and the new micro-armies aren't going away either.

There remains the question of how long the codices will be viable, but they generally are valid for a minimum of 12 months from publish date.

Brett and Tomb kings for WFB both got axed in the changeover. Nothing to say this can't happen with races in 40k

Just looked on GW's site, and they've got the rules for them posted, and they have points costs listed in the General's Handbook.

Not currently selling the models isn't the same thing as being axed.

Squats had rules in the 2nd ed armies book. Just sayin'...

OP is however not veteran with existing armies. For him his army getting same treatment as Bret/TK IS same as axing. "yea I have rules. Now what about those models?"

Or you think he'll be playing forever with just what he has(not much) or make some paper stand ins?

Hmmm... I also feel nervous about a new 40K edition, especially since the fall of Cadia Event was announced.

Don t get me wrong, the event seems great... Just as great as the end of time was... Which, was followed by... You got the idea.

So, considering what happened during the warhammer battle to age of sigmar transition, one can make some (incoherent) speculations:

- the chaos God provoked the warp to shrink, what was once a large universe is now concentrated to a lone planet
- as a consequence all the round bottomed bases shifted to square bases (you know, for space optimization) and every unit have to adopt regimental formation
- the Emperor will come back walking alongside its chaos space marine brethrens
- all the space marine will be resculpted as true scale space marines with grav gun (because the warp shrinked)
- Slaanesh is dead. Stop hoping for a decent (well, sort of) keeper of secret
- Orks on steroids but not multipart
- Eldar guardians and Necrons warriors sprues will stay "as is"
- Squat are back! But they fight naked surrounded by flames for hardly known reasons

One thing that has me curious that keeps cropping up in the back of my mind is the concept of Grand Alliances. In AOS, you can (more or less) field units from any faction as long it falls within the same general Grand Alliance.

I don't know 40K that well... but is something like that even feasible? That could be either good or bad for existing collections I guess.

8th won't be taking away the books you already have. If you're having fun with this edition and everything changes with the next, GW isn't going to come to your house and force you play the next edition.

While true, the store based reality of many people's gaming tends to enforce acceptance of the new.

With Unbound, Allies and more recently cross faction formations 40k has been heading that way for some time now.

Sad but true. A lot of GW stores stopped allowing games of Fantasy the day AoS dropped. Other GW stores gave a grace period before eventually disallowing Fantasy.

What's sad is all the old gamers who still today can't accept flyers or strength D when those things have been there for years and were perfectly balanced to fit within 40k.

I don't see why GW would support playing games of something they don't sell anymore, that doesn't make any business sense.
