So i want to use some of the new fomations that have the warpsmith but i know he is looked down upon. So i am trying to come up with ways to make him less of a tax. I play deathguard so the axe is less of a problem for me dur to -1i anyway.

I have thought of putting him in a unit of chosen/havocs all with meltas so they would be after the same targets.

So any ideas or sugestions

The warpsmith is actually good in close combat. As a shooter you will not make his points back. He wants to be in melee with his stats. He has a power axe so the Ini hit wont matter and he can get up to 7 attacks on a charge when marked khorne. Of course you cant do with with most of the formations he is taken in.

But when you can, get his axe swinging. In a cult of destruction formation he already makes his points back by virtue of granting extra shots. You can also take mutilators in that formation and that lets the warpsmith get into CC. But its mutilators. So. Yea.

He's also useful for holding relics

The Warpsmith can fire another gun alongside the Meltagun included in his Mechatendrils, and he can take a Combi-Melta.

I honestly would just run him "solo" in a hijacked Rhino. Havocs can take one, even if they don't need it.

You could use a unit of Bikers or Spawn to slingshot him into combat. Having FNP now is great and that means he's at T5 2+/5++/5+++. Slingshotting is very annoying to do though.

I prefer not to use rules abusing tricks as that is not why i play

You could use him to #gasp# repair vehicles.

have him sit by a LOW and keep it in good condition.

(I actually like the Thousand Sons warpsmith for this, cos he can turn himself into jump infantry and keep up)

How is that at ALL abusing rules?

We can dream. I'm imagining a conversion or kit where the lower half of the warpsmith just IS the bike.

If you're taking a chaos warband (and why wouldn't you?) with a min unit of CSM (and why wouldn't you?) with a melta gun in a rhino (and wh... you get the drift), popping the warpsmith in there as well means 2 melta guns out the top hatch (3 if you took a combi) and a flamer available if they get charged (or if you're using the melta on infantry and don't want to waste your combi).

Assuming he's not the warlord, if you've taken a cult of destruction, just jam him in your oblit unit and march them forward and have him split off and charge something or even just eat wounds for the oblits since he's got similar stats for not tooooo much more points.

I am a big fan of tech marines in my loyalist army, and although this guy is more expensive (and lacks a bike), he compliments the Obliterators in a Cult of Destruction. I usually always march at least 2-3 oblits forward, and only deepstrike one or two solo. He can join the big unit, and break off for combats, and overwatch if the oblits get charged. Ive forgotten about his Shatter Defenses and Weapon Curse rules every game, but I consider them equivalent to a risk free Psychic power.

Now, do Special rules like the Rituals work while embarked in a Rhino?

They don't. You have to be "on the table" to measure special abilities, unless a specific exception is granted (ex: being able to issue orders from a Chimera).

Spawns solve his speed problems somewhat. And he compliments their lack of ap 2 quite well.

The current global economy? Actually they probably could help with that if they got creative but still.

On the topic of the forum I like him to repair stuff as said, I like to put big assault units in a Spartan and with him in it it's truly invulnerable (but that doesn't sound like how you want to play him). Stick him in a Landraider with something valuable (Terminators, Chosen, Cult Units) and have a great survivable beastie roll up the board.

Also if you are partial to Predators he can just sit back with them and keep them alive.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I think a similar thing everytime I look at the Dark Apostle.

Hell, imagine if you could give Apostles and Smiths Daemonic Steeds? A Juggernaut Warpsmith would be a beast in CC.

Sadly unless you're sligshoting him with Spawn or Bikes or Deep Striking him in a Dreadclaw Pod he's only really useful for repairs or as a once per game 2-shot meltagun or flamer (assuming you give him a combi-melta/flamer).

I want a Daemon Prince on Juggernaut. Or on Bike. It would he the best Doomrider.

As a technomancer(IA13, if taking an infernal relic) he also allows you to choose the result for the roll when embarking with daemonic possession. Worth remembering, especially in a dreadclaw. And for feeding your Spartan cultists.
