Hey folks,

I'm completely new to Age of Sigmar, but I'm looking to play mostly fun narrative battles and campaigns. I'm certainly not opposed to competitive/matched play, but I have no desire to really "hone" my game and prepare for tournaments. That way lies Warmachine, which is great, but not something my life can handle right now.

ANYWAY, I'm wondering what to get next. I love the StD models (jaysis, is that really the acronym?), and I'd love to get as much of them as possible while avoiding units/models that are just really bad in the game. I'm also eyeing Nurgle as a way to expand into Chaos (well, other than the Guaunt Summoner. I've already ordered both versions of this model, as it's AMAZING, but most of the rest of the Tzeentch line doesn't do it for me), so I'm wondering what to expand into?

Here's what I own already:

-Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting box

-Chaos Warriors (16) box

This means I can buy the three man Chaos Warriors box and have three units of Chaos Warriors.

I'm thinking of getting a Chaos Lord next, along with a Chaos warshrine.

Is there anything else I'm missing that is good to focus on for good gameplay? Remember I haven't yet played a game.

Thanks!

i would say pick up another box of warriors, having 40 warriors on the field is a really solid unit.

Warshrine is a good place to go, i have heard debate about it, but honestly cant really come to a conclusion myself if its bad or good.

One thing you will want to get ahold of is some range, I would suggest picking up some from either skaven or if you dont want to run rats, get some dwarf thunderers and make them chaos dwarf fireglaves.

If you got the cash, look at a hell cannon or convert a imperial rocket battery into a deathshreaker rocket launcher.

I have found Range in AoS is valuable to have.

To many unpainted models to count.

I played slaves to darkness in tournaments and usually focus on playing chaos knights with glaives, they are fast and can do a lot of damage on the charge.

Chaos lord you are thinking of getting is a great buff for many lists as the different marks can tool him into most lists and fix things that need fixing.

I would go for a manticore before the warshrine myself. the warshrine is great in bigger games, but the manticore is better in smaller pts games. Furthermore the kit allows you to easily switch riders so it can be playes as the sorcerer lord or the chaos lord on manticore.

I picked up two SC boxes and 16 warriors when I started out. This gave me 10 Knights, 40 Warriors, 2 Chariots (both built as Gorebeasts), and 2 Sorcerer Lords for relatively cheap. The Warshrine is a great model, and makes for a decent unit on the tabletop as well. As mentioned, the Manticore Lord is handy in small games, and the best part is that both the Chaos Lord and Sorcerer Lord can be assembled from the kit and swapped out depending on which you want to use!

I mentioned as well, you wont make a bad choice if you also get some ranged in your army.

Fireglaves or anysort of artillery from Legion of Azgorh most of which can be kit bashed from other model so you dont need to pay forgeworld prices.

I would recommend looking into the warscrolls of god-specific characters/units that can provide synergy for your StD models. The cool thing about AoS is that you can take models from across the factions and make some neat combinations. And Slaves to Darkness excel at this. I would also recommend getting/converting some Chaos Chosen. They provide army-wide buffs just by killing something.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.
1500 pts

Chaos knights are neat and spiky and you can do all sorts of neat custom stuff with them.

Also they are probably good in the game or something, unless they aren't.

So there's my vote!

realism is a lie

Wait, the Chaos Lord and Sorcerer Lord can be assembled from the SC kit? I'm not sure I see the Chaos Lord on the sprues. Same goes for the Gorebeast and regular chariot. If you can confirm that, it would be great, as I'll definitely buy a second SC set if that's the case! I love the Chaos Lord model!

I meant in the Manticore Lord kit. Sorry to get your hopes up. The Gorbeast, though can be built from the SC kit. That's how I did it.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure before ordering another SC kit. Weirdly, because of what I want to buy, if it made the Chaos Lord it would be worth buying another one for me right now, but because it doesn't, it's not (for now).

Either bulk out your force with more basics, so knights and/or a second SC. Or:

If you have a deity you like then expand into that range (Rotbringers, Arcanites, Blood bound or wait a bit).

I definitely am interested in Nurgle (both Daemons and Rotbringers), so I'm going to expand into that as well.
