Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on beating DE at 500 points.

Opponent has 6 Venoms at 500 points. Neither myself or another local Tyranid player can come up with anything that isnt dead by turn 2. . Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with that much poison in a small points game.

Thanks

With a take all comers list?
You will struggle.

Purely for against 6 venoms?

Tyrant: wings, 2x TL devourers - 215

Mucolid spore - 15
Mucolid spore - 15

Spore mine cluster - 15
Spore mine cluster - 15

2x hive guard - 110
1x hive guard - 55
1x hive guard - 55

495 points.

Flyrant does what it does best.
Hive guard aim to get shooting as fast as possible while in cover.

Mines give them something more to shoot at with all those poisoned shots.

Another option is to run a pair of mawlocs instead of hive guard and downgrade the tyrant to a prime.

Edit: on second thoughts, what size board will you be playing on?
Deathspitter spam may even work on a smaller board due to sheer number of shots, throw in a prime for BS boost and more shots.

Venoms won't be causing ID against warriors anytime soon so they will have to grind through wounds instead.

I play dark eldar and that's just mean.

It sounds like he is just bringing the direct counter to Tyranids. That's not a take all comers list.

I don't play the bugs myself but I can say that for fun you could tell him you are playing Tyranids then show up with an army of vehicles instead. All the poison weapons in the list can't touch any vehicle.

Venom's honestly die fast to pretty much anything, so if you can get first turn and shoot down a couple you might survive long enough to win..

But really there are certain matchups with DE that struggle. Especially monster only lists. Not to mention DE are really good at lower point levels because their maneuverability can keep them alive and their firepower against basic units is powerful. This is one of those bad matchups for you. Try the FMC build and see if that works. Or try other opponents.

Also know your enemy, each venom is two hull points, ten armour, five up invulnerable save, and puts out twelve shots hitting on threes. On average that's eight hits and four wounds. Best of luck to ya

Depends on what is inside those Venoms, if he got blasterborn in some of themm it is both an all comers list and murder to tyranid warriors,

He doesn't have the points for blasterborn at 500. He might have a lahmean and a couple barebones warrior squads, with at most 1 blasters given the number of venoms

Either way it's going to be an uphill battle the whole way.
Your against the fastest army that's pumping out a ludicrous amount of poisoned shots every turn.

It's literally covers every one of your strengths.

Small bugs will die in droves.
The mid bugs will just get stripped of wounds.
MCs will suffer just as badly.
Even your flyers will get dragged down through volume of shots.

This may not sound great, but what about throwing in a tyrannofex?
The 2+ should be enough to sponge a lot of the shooting.

Run that with a rupture cannon and a TL dev flyrant and between the 2 of them they may be able to put some damage down.

Throw in mucolids for troops to try and force them towards you as well.

Your maths is a little off with the Flyrant, it's 230 with Wings and 2 sets of Devourers, which just means dropping a Spore Mine Cluster. This list is probably the best option though.

As a long time Tyranid player, I made a point of never accepting a match against Dark Eldar. That being said, just gonna toss out that Deathleaper does exist. Your opponent has plenty of shots. It means jack all when the opposition has a good cover save and forces him to hit on 6s.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."
