I predict the upcoming Forgeworld Legio Custodes Contemptor and Pallas Grav-Attack release is a precursor to 40K Age of Legos that will provided pre-colored models so new players can go directly from store to construct to play in a matter of hours!

Paradigm for a happy relationship with Games Workshop: Burn the books and take the models to a different game.

They already do this with some of the board games (Space Hulk, Blood Bowl, etc.).

Looking forward to my "Grand alliance destruction" of Orks, Tyranids, Necrons, and oh what the hell, Tau.

I can see it now.

Grand Alliance: Chaos will be CSM and Daemons.

Grand Alliance: Emprah will be all the "Imperial" factions including AdMech. "Space Marines" will become "Spacecast Eternals" for maximum copyright.

Grand Alliance: Elfs will be Eldar, Dark Eldar and Harlequins. Sorry - Aeldar, Dark Aeldar, and Haerlaequaens.

Grand Alliance: Destruction will be Tyranids and Genestealer Cults.

Grand Alliance: Miscellaneous will be Orks, Tau (or rather "Taeu") and Naecrons.

In all seriousness that can be done. Instead of calling them Alliances they can be called something else. Since I can't really think of a name I will just use "collection".

Collection: Imperium of Man. That would be Space Marines IM/AM, AdMech, Inquisition etc.

Collection: The Races of Old and New. That would be Eldar, Dark Eldar, Harlequins, Necrons and Tau.

Collection: Destruction. Tyranids, Genestealer Cults, Orks and Chaos Space Marines and Deamons.

Just because races are in a Collection doesn't mean they can ally up necessarily. Obviously for Collection: Imperium of Man, everyone can ally up with others but a few exceptions for like Grey Knights who go alone or Dark Angels if we are going by fluff. Exceptions can be made. For Collection of Destruction, Tyranids can't ally with anyone else except for Genestealer Cults. Orks can have the Ally with IG/AM race with restriction because fluff wise there were stories of Orks joining IG correct? Just because in Collection: Races of Old and New that would mean Necrons can't ally with the Eldar races.

I know what I said is far from perfect but it's a starting point on saying it's not impossible to do.

I think it will be:

Order - Imperium
Chaos - Chaos
Aelfs - Eldars
Techs - Necrons and Tau
Destruction - Nids & Genestealers
Official NPCs that nobody would actually play - Orks

Good one Jim. Never thought of Techs. Thing is, I thought it was the Nids that were the official NPCs In the fluff they are the big scary race, but EVERYONE seems to have won the major battles against them.

so long as they leave 30k the feth alone I don't mind 40k being "dumbed down" (in a good way), 30k can be the more complicated 40k we know now (with tweaks) then we can have intermediate with 40k and lastly simple with AOS (simple does not mean bad nor stupid)

I can agree in a lot of cases "dumbed down" is synominous with "streamlined" but how does 40K make you smart in 7th edition?

This is a misnomer I hate. Streamlining rules is not "dumbing down". You don't need a ton of complex bullgak to pretend a game is complicated. AOS rules are streamlined, they are in no way, shape or form "dumbed down" and arguably have more tactical application than 40k does right now.

Indeed.

AoS is not a point and click adventure. Whilst it's main rules are fairly simple and straight forward, victory is all about the decisions you make. For instance, early mistakes I made included over committing to combats - the IGOUGO means the old Warhammer approach of orchestrating mass charges isn't always a good idea, and if you're not clever with your order of fighting, you can see your best unit duffed up in short order.

There's a lot of new challenges in AoS, or certainly new to GW games!

Indeed. Anyone that thinks AoS is "dumbed down" has not played AoS or given it a fair chance. I was pretty skeptical my first couple games of AoS, but the more I played it, the more fun I had. It plays SO MUCH FASTER then 40K, army building is MUCH EASIER, and customization is definitely present. You want your squad to have swords and boards, halberds, or guns? Go for it. They all have a line on the warscroll for the unit, and each one has it's advantages/disadvantages. I really feel like my Warlord matters thanks to his Command Abilities that totally make sense, and not random gak like the warlord traits in 40K. Initiative means so much, and you have to plan on your opponent getting two turns in a row. Close combat is easy, streamlined, and brutal. Big critters are terrifying, but they get weaker as they take more wounds. That is awesome! It's a beautiful, wonderfully fun game to play. Yes, it still has some issues, but the General's Handbook and the promise of revisions to the game make me want to play it even more.

40K these days feels like work. So many rules, and many times I'm constantly referring to my rule book. It's impossible to double check your opponent's army unless you play the army yourself. I'm talking multiple CADS, with all the bonuses and how they stack (or not stack)- the complexity of 40K has gone through the roof, and you have to take your opponent's word far, far more than ever before and trust that they are playing the same game you are. That to me is not fun, especially when you lose a game, go home and read the rules your opponent was using and realize he was playing it totally wrong. That is very frustrating to me.

IMHO, the best thing that could possibly happen is the Sigmification of 40K to give me back the fun game 40K used to be.

Not trying to be snarky, but I would feel a sense of comfort if there is verifiable information from GW they aren't going the AoS route. I've actually delayed several purchases until I see what goes down with 8th.

I hate to add to your sense of foreboding, but all the new boxes at my local GW corporate store suddenly have something very telling printed on the back. From what's written on those boxes (and you kind of have to look for it), I can pretty much promise that they are planning on bringing the "Grand Alliance" format to 40k at the very least.

Okay, at this point I think we are reaching the point of paranoia, this comment almost reads like FOLLOW THE SIGNS!!

I don't know, look at the most recent releases, they're doing more and more of this "faction" stuff with small plug and play formations. Both the ad mech releases and imperial agents seemed very AoS grand alliance-esk. Where armies aren't a thing, you just bring whatever models you like as long as they're part of the "good guys" alliance.
Then there's the talk of elder forming a full alliance with the imperium and tau.

40k will not be AoSisfied.
GW would severely change a successful game. That will not happen.

Which you could do with detachments since day one of 7th edition. Allies has no cap actually.

Also, your "armies aren't a thing" shows that you don't really know what you're talking about, since you are utterly unaware of the alleigance mechanics.

If it's any use Phil Kelly said it to my face, directly when asked at 40k Open Day, Warhammer World in November

His take on what will happen was:
- No End Times
- No AoS style complete rework
- Moving the timeline forward a little, just a little, not enough to seriously change the overall setting
- Allows them to make some changes, bring in some new units, characters, etc
- Some major characters will be killed in suitably heroic ways (did not say which)
- Some planets will get hit etc but no radical change, still the same 40K setting
- No plans to totally rewrite the rules in AoS fashion

No equivocation, the new GW approach doesn't force their people to be totally silent on all future developments now. Obviously they are circumspect and don't give too much away but the outline was there. I wasn't left in any doubt. He might have been lying but he seemed forthright enough.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure if people will believe this. Shortly afterwards pictures began to appear on t'Interweb showing the actual Magnus the Red (the one as tall as a knight which was released) next to a smaller mock-up. People were asking which was the release version. I told them the bigger one. I had talked to the sculptor, seen the sprues, seen the design drawings, seen the thing itself, talked about the process of sculpting and the reasons for it being big. I was 100% sure on this, but called an idiot, a liar and all sorts. Loads had convinced themselves that the bigger one was a scaled up pre-production model.

All space marines dying?

Or Terra blowing up?

Duncan making thick coats of paint?

Jokes aside, I think that, while strong, it wasn't a really radical change. That or GW at that moment had lapsed into one of the troll moments they seem so at ease currently. I just hope they don't go AoS on 40k. I mean, they have said so, but it could be them just trolling us.
