Hey there.

As a tank heavy AM player. Are there any must have FW units? Been looking at some of their models. Sabre gun-platform in particular. But it is gone though. Any other ideas would be much appreciated ?

I'd recommend artillery carriages (either with earthshakers or medusas). They are tough, cheaper than their vehicle-mounted equivalents and you can give them juicy orders such as 'ignores cover'. Rapier laser destroyers are also pretty good and have similar advantages.

Both of these units fill a good roll in the codex - point-efficient anti tank/MC firepower. For a codex with so many tanks + big guns, I find AM anti-tank to be pretty overcosted in every form.

The disadvantage is that they fill up heavy slots, which compete with several of our other most useful units (notably the wyvern). I'd be interested to know if there's any way to unlock more heavy support slots for guard than a CAD without having to take so many tax-units or forced unit choices!

Sabre batteries and Vulture are very good also.

thought that orders only worked on units that are in the AM Codex?

I've been running emperor's wrath battery for my usual HS stuff (2x wyverns, basilisk, Manticore) then all the HS slots in my cad as rapiers.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I second the Vulture vote, although it's much easier to convert a Valk than pay for a Vulture.

I put a Vulture in every list I run, they are just so damn useful. They're very accurate and can consistently generate casualties on anything, including MC's and TEQ. With the vector dancer rule they can also easily maneuver behind other flyers or vehicles to annihilate that rear armor.
