Subject: Which Primarch's conquered their home planets?
|
 |

|
Seen this brought up in a bunch of threads and I found myself not really knowing the answer. Which of the Primarchs conquered their own planet, how did they do it, and when did they do it. They were found many years apart(Horus was found 30 years before any of the others) so did that affect their ability to conquer the planet?
Horus was found first, 30 years before Russ. It is unclear whether he conquered Cthonia or not. It is unclear whether he was found on Cthonia or traveled to Terra itself to find the Emperor.
Leman Russ was adopted by the King and succeeded him when he died.
Ferrus Manus had the respect of all the clans, but it is unclear whether he conquered the planet
Fulgrim the industrialist rose to sole rulership over Chemos 50 years after arrival without spilling any blood.
Vulkan beat up some DE right before Big E arrived. He didnt conquer Noctune.
Rogal Dorn was adopted by the House of Dorn that ruled Inwit and a bunch of other planets.
Roberte Gulliman's adoptive father ruled half the planet. Guiliman's took the whole thing after his father died.
Magnus ruled Prospero although what for that conquest took seems unclear. In some stories all the other psykers recognize he is so powerful and just hand him power.
Sanguinius was worshiped as a god by the people of Baal due to his supernatural form and wings.
Lion Jonson fought the "beasts" and was proclaimed the ruler of Caliban
Perturabo conquered Olympia but ruled in the name of the Tyrant of Dammekos.
Mortarion failed to conquer Barbarus. The local ruler having placed himself in a tower too high for Mortarion to assault. Really makes Mortarion look like a chump. Seems like any other primarch would have invented a breathing suit and conquered the world.
Lorgar fought a bloody 6 year long war to conquer Colchis. He was ruler less than a year before the emperor arrived
Khan took 20 years to conquer all the land from Ocean to Ocean on Mundus Planus. The emperor arrived 6 months later.
Konrad Curze conquered Nostramo, a technologically advanced hive world of tens of billions of people, completely alone by being Space Batman.
Angron failed to conquer Nuceria. He was about to die with his fellow battle slaves when big E arrived.
Corax led a slave rebellion that conquered Deliverance
Alpharius and Omegon didnt have a homeworld, or it is completely unknown. In any event, at least 1 of them didnt rule it.

Umm.. Mortition did build breathing armour but iirc it wad too corrosive and toxic for his suit to survive at that height.
They built suits and took other citidels and such though.

According to Betrayer/Master of Mankind, every other primarch sans Angron had managed to conquer their planet in some form or another.
The definition of conquer seems to be pretty loose, it can vary from taking it by force like Perturabo/Khan, inheriting it like Guilliman or simply being universally revered as a hero like the Lion/Ferrus/Vulkan.
I'm not particularly familliar with Mortarion's backstory but judging by the wiki page, it seems like he did manage to conquer Barbarus, he simply failed to kill his father before the Emperor swooped in and stole the kill from him.

Also Sanguinius sort of did similar if i recall on the Old lore the clan who took him shelter, went in some sort of crusade clearing Baal from mutants and uniting the tribes with him as his leader before the emperor came.

These Primarchs conquered their worlds: Perturabo Jaghatai Khan Mortarion (except for one single citadel) Lorgar Corax These Primarchs ruled their worlds: Jaghatai Khan (by conquest) Mortarion (by conquest, again except for one single citadel) Lorgar (by conquest) Corax (by conquest) Guilliman (by inheritance) Dorn (by inheritance) Russ (by inheritance) Vulkan (chosen by the people after becoming a hero) Sanguinius (chosen by the people after becoming a hero) Magnus (chosen by the people after becoming a hero) Lion el'Jonson (chosen by the people after becoming a hero) Fulgrim (chosen by the people after becoming a hero) Curze (chosen by the people after freaking them out) These Primarchs did not rule or conquer their worlds; Angron (his rebellion failed) Alpharius Omegon (homeworld and origins unknown) Horus (discovered by the Emperor very early) Ferrus (seen as a god, but never intervened in the political struggles of his world)

I think Mortarion freed much of the planet but his adoptive father was situated to high up for Mortarion to defeat him. When the Emperor arrived Mortarion attempted to go defeat his adopted father and failed due to the poison/toxins/whatever was in the air. The Emperor saved him.
Still, from what I recall Mortarion did take most of the area.

He did not have ultra advanced materals, far as I know it was metal and other less industrial cultures.
He used what he had extremely effectively when he made the original deathguard iirc was the name for the humans whom he clad in metal, leather etc modifed to resist the poison.
He achieved alot with what he had.

I'm gonna point out saying Gulliman simply inherited the world proably doesn't give him eneugh credit. he didn't inherited it, he essentially fought a civil war that put him in the driver's seat It's like dismissing Augustus Ceaser as having just inherited his position.

Most of the Primarchs who inherrited were adopted because they earned the ruler's approval early in life. Don't think of it as a brush off.

Yeah, I dunno, what counts as conquered here?
Guilliman fought a war that won the submission and respect of the the rest of his world, returned to his home city and found a rebellion that had murdered his adoptive father, then proceeded to crush that rebellion as well. Winning the respect of the populace in the process.

He certainly conquered his planet, but he started out being given a position of having half the military of the planet under his control.

What Mortarion did was impressive no doubt but people talk about the Emperor stealing his "kill" which wasn't the case

I don't know how much of the planet his adopted fathers realm had control over, but from my sources Guilliman was given command of an expeditionary force. It's unclear how large that force was in comparison to the rest of the world. But if you have more clear info please share it.

Guiliman's father, Konor, ruled the entire planet along with a co-consul, Gallan. Roboute was given control of the army to fight some barbaric areas in the distant north. Gallan took the opportunity to stage a coup, killing Konor. Roboute came back with the army and brought Gallan to justice, leaving him the ruler of the planet.

From what I remember he more reached near but just so toxic even his gear and strengh was just not ernough.
He might of got him in the end with time to prepare and design new gear though.

In what sense is conquer not, "I murdered everyone on my planet that opposed my rule until no one opposed my rule?"
I still think Curze did the best job, given he was the only Primarch who grew up and conquered his world with no help from anyone. Even the Lion had Luther to help him acclimate to the planet's culture. Curze could have turned out alright landing on most of the other planets Primarchs fell to. Most primarchs would have failed to do what he did had they landed on Nostramo.

Fear lasted long after space batman stopped flaying people. His conditioning of the planet left it completely devoid of crime. Fear did evaporate when space batman left. Order didnt last long. When you force an entire planet to submit all alone, that kind of goes away when you leave. With no one helping you, there is no one left to hold things together when you leave.

His planet was a lost cause.
He had luck to land on one of worst places known to mankind for crime...
Given centuries maybe.. But he was not one to work on such projects.

Is Konrad Curze and Nostramo supposed to be a metaphor for the Emperor and the Imperium?
