In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only faux fur.....or so PETA would hope.....

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) makes a rather perplexing request to GW that Space Wolves stop wearing fur, even though they're not actually wearing fur (models are resin/plastic/metal, no animal hides here), despite the fact that Space Wolves aren't actually real, which in turn means that the wolves they're (not) killing for their (not real) pelts are likewise not real.

The letter suggests that these not-real, not-actually-fur-wearing Space Wolves send "the message that wearing fur is acceptable -- when, in fact, it has no more place in 2017 than it would in the year 40,000." Because if anyone knows what "place" anything has in the grim darkness of the far future, our own Dakka scribes in the 40K Background forum defer to infinite Imperial wisdom of PETA on all matters 40K. PETA further pontificates that "nothing on the bloody battlefields of Warhammer's conflict-ravaged universe could match the terrible reality of the fur trade".

I'm sure PETA does some great work. If not, at the very least, their cause is certainly just and I certainly support the ethical treatment of all animals. I'm not so certain my sentiment translates to the treatment of fictional animals by fictional characters in a fictional universe.

PETA has long since stopped being a rational agency. They are now a parody of themselves, full of virtue signaling and nothing more then a failure at protecting animals. To often they end up killing animals in the name of "saving" them.

They focus on the mundane and petty, like depictions of a fictional future from a small time game, because they have failed to make any meaningful impact at larger targets.

I hope they don't find out about the lobotomized human slaves (plus all the regular human slaves who are completely aware of their misery) that the entire society of the "good guys" is based on.

Plus the wholesale genocide done "for a worlds own good" that regularly takes place, or subjugation of loyal planets if they are lax on their tithes, etc. Oh, and maybe the skulls of martyrs and important people made into drones? Or widespread religious persecution and torture? Future nuns burning heretics and strapping their own to penitent engines (whether on not they may actually be heretics, rather than just naiive.)

Oh, yeah. Fur taken from alien wolves is totally bad. Totally the thing that needs to be focused on. Good job, Peta.

Are we sure this isn't sourced from the Onion? Because if I wrote for the Onion this is totally something I would do.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Also here is one of my post explaining why you falling for an obvious bait is encouraging more baits that will infuriate you even more so for your own sake you should learn to just ignore those:

You should all know the pattern by now, after the Pokemon PETA publicity stunt, the Mario PETA publicity stunt, the other Pokemon PETA publicity stunt, …

"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. [...] We will continue to diversify the cast of characters we portray [...] so everyone can find representation and heroes they can relate to. [...] If [you don't feel the same way], you will not be missed"

Yeeeeaaaaaaahhhh... This is a perfect example of the fact that PETA does not in fact do some great work. Any small good they may do is far outweighed by their hair-brained attention grabs and moronic self-righteousness.

Sorry, I missed one. Damn I am ashamed of the wargaming community right now. So easily manipulable.
