while getting models for my new tyranid arm I found this model again and really have always loved it, but never thought it was worth the $
thanks to the weak currency exchange though I picked it up.
I am having trouble fining info on how people would use it. I get that it is kind of meh... str 8 T8 4 would, with a otherwise 4 statline. can take a D cannon but 50 points and buffs wraith units other than wraithknight.
it also says he is an independent character but unsure if that means he can join other units as he is MC.
anybody have any advice on how to kit and use him? so far searches have not wielded any useful info beyond he exists, anybody have tabletop experience with him for casual play.

I've played against him. He killed something of mine from across the table with his D-cannon, and pinned something with Foreboding almost every turn. Seems like a good model to me, although YMMV because it was only one time.

That's really cool that you picked him up, I have always loved that model as well.
I've only seen it played in a psychic heavy army to abuse the pinning spell. I'd like to think it would work well in a wraith heavy Iyaden army as well, but that might be expensive to experiment with.
Which craftworld are you going to paint him as? The painting scheme that they have on the Forgeworld website is really cool but I would be really tempted to go with the purple and green of Il-Kaithe.

I run Uthwe. so black, white/silver higlights. back medalian will be on a pearl background and rose gold, the back fins and helmet will be a bone (face plate will be black with a blue-green transition paint), and scatlet ribbons with runes draping down the back.
the D cannon seems strong but for the price you can just buy a d cannon artillery unit.
guess i never thought of using the pinning so much as I was largely just going to be giving him fnp for a stupid expensive deny the warlord kill thing

Are his rules in Doom Of *however you spell it*?
It seems he would make a good addition to a harlequin army, pinning is ultra useful and so is some long range anti tank, and its an (almost) taxless addition.

He can't cast FNP on himself I don't think.
The big difference between him and a Vaul's Wrath is that he is Relentless so he can move and shoot at the same time. It's a huge advantage.

Yes, his IC status lets him join units, BUT only him alone. I.E. you cannot join any other IC to a squad that he's in, so no Wraithseer Death Stars.
And unless in Wraith heavy army, he's sadly almost exclusively an "anti Slay The Warlord victory point" device. And D cannon while nice is pretty much overcosted on a model that is so easy to tarpit and wants to be in CC. In his dedicated FW formation he becomes quite formidable in a squad of axe&shield Wraithblades as anti-MC, but you have to make your opponent want to engage him, because he's so damn slow... In Wraith Pale Courts he fits nicely in a D-Scythed squad - no one is going to charge him this way, so you pretty much have a solid board controll "atomic detterent".
I use him quite often because it's pretty much my favourite Eldar model of all times (just not in this static FW pose, this is so much wasted potential it hurts...), but he has to have something worthwile in enemy army to be worth his points.

good to know, rereading says wraithguard or wraithlord. had read people saying that was the tactic to use but seeing that is not valid, thanks!

would love to see the pose if you have a picture, might duplicate it if you do post it and do not mind me doing so.

He can't join any units at all because he's an MC.

He can't join any units at all because he's an MC.
This is true as of the December FAQ. Page 7, "If a Monstrous Creature is also an Independent Character can it join other units?" "No."

Ah, I have missed this. That is one sad FAQ ruling... This makes Wraithseer a collectors item realy, as he's to pricey for just a D-Cannon bearer (you can have superior Warp Hunter with some upgrades for his points) and won't realy survive to CC, just as any other Wraithlord.

Well, he has a 5+ invulnerable, which a Wraithlord does not. He also gets bonuses to armor pen in melee, which a Wraithlord does not. His weapon loadout is better too as he can take any gun a Wraithlord can but he can also take a Wraithcannon (Wraithguard gun) or a D-Cannon.
So he's a Wraithlord+

He's pretty decent and not a bad but in all but the most cutthroat environments.
it's a good example of a good but not OP FW unit.
With 4 attacks and a D cannon it's pretty good shooting, decent/good in assault. with 4 wound, invul pretty durable.
Contributes to psychic phase, and has some unique powers!
I'm normal games it won't disappoint, think of it as a (better) wraith avatar.

Imperial Armour 11 v.2 updated the seer's rules, bringing it in line with the corsairs and new formations. So no FNP to himself, sadly.

To sum up a bit of my impressions with the Wraithseer.
It's pretty much a buff up Wraithlord for melee, but you are paying 60 points for 1W extra , 5++ save and his lvl 1 psyker powers.
His psyker powers can be decisive if paired properly, the Foreboding along a Hemlock can wreck some shooting units and give a decent advantage Deliverance can make some wraith units earn a desreved extra toughness to be taken down.
Unlike normal Wraithlords he can only use 1x long range weapon and the normal choices often feel subpar in an already expensive model, but if you go to the D-cannon or Wraithcannon options for D strength it jumps quickly to an absurd points cost
P.S: i still do field it from time to time as i love Wraith armies but i mostly use it as a battering ram against the enemy frontlines dues the Warhost fixed 6" run.

Don't forget that with his weapon, the seer is strength 10, which is super helpful.

yea, the str 10 seemd good, might magnetize the d cannon and only sometimes use.
I am painting some space marines currently a crimson with a color change blue to green paint and might actually paint up the wraithseer like that now that I am seeing it on dreads and it works for larger models. will report back on that later in a few weeks (maybe months) when I have the model painted and such and am happy with how it looks.
will probably try the wraithost. I own 3 wraithlords as I love that model too and 15 wraithguard (no wraithblades but might pick some up while at painting this) should be a fun themed army to field occasionally.

As of now you have almost entire new Ynnari Whispering Ghost Hall formation, which judging just from models included (without even knowing formation bonuses) seems like an interesting way of fielding Wraith armies - all those WC and various dysciplines in one neat package... And it seem to match perfectly with Wraithseer Lord of the Undying Host from FW Mymeara.

I ran one in early 6th edition. I ran a brick of 10 wraithguard with Eldrad, a warlock with spirit Seer, and an allied DE with the Baron. Warlock gave the brick conceal (a 5+ cover save), Eldrad cast fortune and guide giving them rerolls to hit and saves, the Baron gave stealth, grenades, hit and run, and a 2+ invulnerable save. All this and then followed by the Wraithseer who gave the whole brick a 4+ fnp (due to the errata).
At the time it was a psychic deathstar before they became a thing. Majority toughness 6, 3+ rerollable save, 4+ rerollable cover save, 2+ rerollable invulnerable save from the front, and a 4+ fnp. They shot 10 Str 10 Ap 2 shots with a reroll.
The Wraith Seer would buff them and act as a counter assault unit, as well as chipping in with his d cannon. He was also a great hero hunter in challenges, though OG mindshackle scarabs were a headache. Aside from that he was very durable with his T8 3+/5++.
Overall it was fun, though not top tier. The list died when I could no longer guarantee getting fortune, and grav became a thing. Frankly I haven't used the Wraithseer much since. To many things just don't care about T8 anymore. The new dex brought the over the top wave serpents and Wraith knights so my list became mechanized.
Overall the Wraithseer is good unit that is a tad over priced, and out of place in the current competitive meta.
