So does the Imperium on a whole (because obviously there are going to be exceptions to everything because it's the Imperium) prefer intersex squads, or do they prefer have the everyone in a squad to be all male or female. Or do they do it by platoon, company, or regiment. I was debating adding female guard (it'd be more expansive, and well Immalready broke so I not sure if I'll even do it) and wondering, should I make each squad the same sex, each platoon, or does the Imperium really care. Again obviously there are plenty of exceptions.

"Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us His greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the First Kronus Regiment, and today is our Victory Day. " - Governor-Militant Lukas Alexander, Commander 1st Kronus Regiment

They don't really care beyond "can you hold and use this lasgun and are faithful to the emperor and humanity".

What's left of Cadia

It really varies from regiment to regiment. A lot of regiments are one sex or another, but there are also a great many notable regiments with both men and women represented equally in each squad (such as the Tanith First and Only and Commissar Cain's regiment from his book series). At the end of the day the Imperium itself doesn't care, all they care about is if you can hold a gun

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

As others have said, there's no set rule Imperium-wide. It's up to the regiment to make sure they're effective on the battlefield. It's up to you to decide how you want your troops to be split with regards to sex.

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

Ok, thanks. So tactica has no set rule or guideline. Also is being able to hold a lasrifle really needed? Really? Isn't being able to be shot the requirement? (That and being human)

Yeah, regiments can be all male, all female, mixed, or even such an organisation of a male platoon and female platoon kind of structure. Different regiments have different customs, with some worlds perhaps judging women above men and sending them out to fight honourably.
As long as they can fight for the Emperor, who cares what gender?

For what it's worth, my Cadians are mixed gender, with no grouping apparent to gender.

They/them

It might help to know how a regiment of Imperial Guard comes into being:

As part of a planet's tithe, troops for the Imperial Guard are usually a big part of it. The selection process is based solely on that planet's culture and policies, with the only big item from the larger Imperium being that whatever they send needs to be good quality. This is doubly enforced because a bad batch of Guard recruits from a world generally ends in a bullet to the Governor's head. Once the tithe is sent, the troops are then brought up to speed on common Guard tactics and training, and then shipped off to warzones (always warzones away from their home system).

So what it comes down to for you is that a Guard regiment can be anything, really. They can hail from a world that has separate gender platoons, or mixed, or whatever.

I know

I had a feeling it was going to be that.

Well, guess I am going to do same-sex platoons (or squads, not sure yet) with vets being intersex (after all if you're entire platoon is dead, and your are the remaining vets, well, death wasn't sexist)

The Imperium does not care. The Imperium only desires hands to hold their lasguns, feet to march, and fingers to pull the triggers.

Not even loyalty matters. That can be enforced via commissars and threats of being sent to the penal legions.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Which should completely allow Tau Imperial Guard. You know, some poor Tau who lost their Ethereal and were awed by the stories of the Emperor seek to fight in his name. They could even understand the importance of melee.

To be completely honest, I'm sure the Inquisition would love to co-opt some wayward Tau and get them killed in service to the Imperium.

Most regiments are all male. Some are all female. A few are mixed.

Gaunts Ghosts started as all male but got some female reinforments from a rescued hive.

Cains regiment was mixed from the remnants of an all female and an all male regiment.
