I am brand new to this hobby. I started collecting/painting about a month ago. I decided to go Eldar because I am an elf fanboy, and was told they were the elves of space, so now I am an Eldar player.

So I was looking at the Eldar models and when I got to swooping hawks, i loved the concept, and thought the models were among my favorites...until I saw the scourge models from Dark Eldar.

Scourge had hawk masks, while swooping hawks had these weird beak like masks with doofy helmets. Scourge had the more feather-y wings too... so i decided I need to find out about the legality of substituting models and stuff in warhammer.

Like I said, brand new to the hobby, didnt know what the rules were, and from what I gathered: some people will really care, some wont give a gak. Some people said "conversions" were generally accepted, so I would just have to "convert" scourge to Swooping hawks.

Which lead me to this: My current WIP Swooping Hawk Exarch Conversion.

http://imgur.com/a/8TN0a

Legs:I took Scourge model, I shaved off any pointy/spiky bits. Shaped the open feet models, to look more like boots than feet.
Torso: Eldar Guardian Torso's. The shoulder pads are such an Eldar thing, and I actually liked the jetpack looking part of Eldar and thought they would make a lot of sense on something that is flying around.
Arms/Gun: Scourge arms/gun. Again shaved off the spiky bits so it looks more like the Swooping Hawks laser guns.
Head: Scourge head, shaved/cut and put together with the spare 'mohawk' bit from a Dire Avenger set, which was also cut/shaved down to fit.
Wings: Scourge, with the spiky bits shaved/cut off, and the front part of the wings cut/reshaped so they would attach to a guardian Torso.

I have never worked with "green stuff" but am going to look into it, to finish filling in the helm. and making the transition to the mohawk part a lot smoother.

Anyways, I am SUPER stoked about how my first conversion came out...and this is 100% my favorite model in my army now, bar none. Hope other people like it.

If you have any suggestions/modifications let me know, would love to hear some suggestions on how to make it even cooler.

Also thoughts for paint... I am not a big fan of painting anything the "standard" way, as its boring and my favorite part of this hobby is the customization.

My current plan for colors: either Neon green/baby blue with a Silver mask and red eyes. Or am considering a white with blue... looking for suggestions on that too.

Anyways thanks for clicking.

Swooping hawks wear a uniform.
The wings are part of it. When they take the armour off, the wings come with it. When they leave the aspect or that path, they leave the wings.

Scourges are biomechanically augmented by the haemonculi and set loose. The wings don't come off. Not voluntarily, at any rate.

They also come with gnarly hang-nails.

The craftworld eldar have the path of the chiropodist.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Very nice! Off to a cracking start for only having been collecting for a month

Eldar are awesome btw. I usually tend to find myself gravitating towards elves in most things, but the Eldar are the best of what I've come across so far (perhaps tied with Elder Scrolls Mer...).

I'd thoroughly recommend getting into the lore/fluff some really kickass things in it

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

Have fun with your conversions. I have a whole squad of Swooping Hawks made from Scourges. I wanted my Craftworld to look more savage and corsair-esque, so I even left the bat-wings. Bare feet got turned into boots, though.

Thanks! I am so happy with how they turned out and it has definitely made me look into converting more of my army to make them my own!

I think it looks pretty good. I'm not sure how I feel about the feathered wings or the helmet, but it's your army - do your own thing.
