Thats nice-

https://camospecs.com/unit/5th-sword-of-light/

All Sword of Light regiments use a flat red paint scheme in the field and on parade.

Okay, I wasn't trying to make this a canon [censored] contest.

I was simply pointing out that one does not HAVE to stick 100% to the official parade paint schemes. You certainly may, if you wish. You may also get creative, because it most certainly IS in the fluff that individual mechwarriors did so.

This is BattleTech, not Warhammer 40K.

Note that Sorenson's Sabre's have their own entry on Camo Specs

The Sabres use the same scheme of the 5th Sword of Light unit, flat red with no highlights.

Per Staterbook Sword and Dragon, page 32.

After the Combine-Bear war, the Sabres were attached to the Otomo. Wishing to retain the identity and tradition of Sorenson’s Sabres, they did not switch to the Otomo scheme, but in a compromise to save face, they have added gold highlights.

Canonized by Hyena on 8/14/07.

The Land of the Rising Sun

I will add that the early sourcebooks, and the housebooks had a more knights in space feeling than the later, post clan, books did away in exchange for a more modern military image of the IS armies. House Liao for example had Marshigama's Legionares that...

The Legionnaires' reputation for vanity began with unit commander Ju-Lei Marshigama, who after being crowned "Miss Ningpo 3017" applied her questionable belief that MechWarriors must adhere to particular beauty standards in order to be effective. Upon inheriting command of the unit, she discharged all of its members who she deemed below her personal standards. She then proceeded to hire only the most attractive female MechWarriors, while ensuring any male recruits had both facial hair and as many scars as possible. She believed that males should be more ferocious and unkempt in appearance, striking fear into the hearts of the enemy.

Sadly for all the pintoresque units in early Btech things became more "NATO alike" after the Filed Manuals were published.

I'll say it again, BattleTech is not Warhammer 40K.

I'll say it again, BattleTech is not Warhammer 40K.

As you will note, it says they do use gold highlights after being attached to the Otomo and are not always just a flat red paint scheme.

Also, BattleTech does have canonical paint schemes, just like 40K has and that players can use or ignore at their discretion, just like they can with 40K.

The obvious solution is to paint your mechs in neon pink and green with yellow highlights to inflict psychological damage on the enemy force as an aesthetic level and then claim you are Wolf's Dragoon's Zeta Battalion.

There's no rule against psychological warfare!

That's also a canon scheme

Unlike the rest of the Nova Cats, which paint their units in appropriate camouflage colors, the warriors of Xi paint their ‘Mechs in neon colors and ancient glyph symbols that can be very distracting to enemy warriors.

Painted some Wheeled APCs from death ray design. They are a bit on the large side scale wise but not to bad at least if you ignore the fact that the infantry is the height of the wheel of the APC

Plenty of space in those, little kitchen, shower, it’s a holiday truck for the nobles that like to go to war, but don’t like dirt.

Looks like a heavy APC to me, plenty of room for a platoon of 28 men.

In between the weather and being utterly swamped by work, I somehow managed to finish a Lyran 'Mech a while ago:

Neat as the scheme is, I do not think I'll be doing more like these, the Griffin is an absolute sweety when it comes to getting a crisp line down the length like this, but I shudder to think the headaches I will get from doing this on an Atlas or Banshee. ?

An open question for everyone.

Over the decades I've been playing, obviously there have been quite a few Technical Readouts detailing various 'mech and vehicle designs... with widely varying artwork.

In your opinion, which TROs got the art right, and which ones don't hold up?

I'm still a big fan of the art of 3025, but 3058 is a strong second. Worst? 3050, hands down.

I rank them TRO 3025, 3026, 3055 all others

Color plates in 3055 are a bit iffy, but many solid models.

Did a little medium mech battle, we each had one 60 tonner, the rest were 50-55.

The map was a river delta with roads and bridges-

Spoiler:

I was running a second deiron regulars lance.

.wolverine
.black hawk KU
.scorpion
.raijin

He was running
.argus
.hunchback
.nightsky
and one other i don't remember

I lost the scorpion to back shots. but aside from that the only other bad point for me was the black hawk falling asleep for a turn.
fortunately i was pretty much undamaged before he took the opportunity to pummel me while i was down.

The last to fall on his side was the nightsky to a headshot.....well another headshot i peppered every mech he had with SRMs in the face.

Nice! I really need to get more experience in with painting camo myself one of these days.

Speaking of Mercenaries, last Monday we made a start to our own campaign, taking it nice and slow, with the first game being Chameleon versus Chameleon as a training exercise for the two new players to get to grips with the rules. Much to my surprise, as I told them to just FAFO with movement and shooting, so they’d learn about everything plus heat, they quickly cottoned on to how important heat management and courtesy of the damage beta rules, positioning is in a fight.

Next scenario was the Trial by Fire scenario from the Game of Armoured Combat booklet, where we took on the BattleMaster, which was controlled by another player using some simple guidelines of it needing to escape, but would attack anything in its path whilst doing so. A pretty close game that saw us constantly pounce it until it was damaged enough to signal surrender, but it got pretty close to taking out our Wolverine, which lived up to its namesake by refusing to tap out hehe!

About the only pictures of the day that were decent, my brother really likes keeping the curtains shuttered..

After that, a pair of scenarios as the Brigadors, mercenaries fighting under someone else’s name for the time being, though the original owner is nowhere to be seen and so we decided to fulfil the contract to the best of our abilities. Our incomplete lance is made up of a Blackjack DB, Catapult and Locust, where I piloted the latter and I somehow managed to survive thus far by embracing the idea that to see another day, I must become the speed and a nuisance hehe!

FAUSTO IS MISSING. THE CONTRACT MUST BE FULFILLED. WELCOME BRIGADOR.

The first one was a defence scenario where a lance of bandit Mechs (Centurion, Javelin, Commando and Stinger) tried to jump us but we managed to drive them off, at some expense as they hit hard. The second scenario was a meeting engagement, with the bandit lance (Centurion, Stinger, Scorpion and JagerMech) really mangling us before being driven off. Both scenarios used the forced withdrawal rules, though we managed to destroy all but the Scorpion, at some cost as both the Blackjack and Locust suffered internal damage.

Not sure when the next game day will be, but we’ve got one more mission concerning the bandits, where they hole up in the box canyon and we need to root them out, or die trying. Facing us will be the Scorpion, Charger, Crab and Stinger. After that, some skullduggery as we’re asked by our employer to try and hit a rival company on our way out, allowing us to use the combat drop rules as we take on a garrison of two Merlins and a Shadow Hawk defending a reinforced structure. When the building goes down, we’ll need to run like hell to reach the dropship before the heat is on. Might see if there's a framework / scenario for running like hell from pursuit forces.

After that? I’m still working on that, though I am tempted to bust out the blue company of Mechs I painted up recently to serve as either a rival company or some local force we’re tussling with, not sure yet what the next contract will be, other than that we’ll shed the Brigadors name and strike out on our own as.. Saunders’ Strays!
