Subject: Tombstone Kickstarter from Black Scorpion Miniatures - Launches 5th April 2017
Seems silly to only offer the vulture with the town pledge and not also as an add on. Frankly it is not enough of an incentive to go for that pledge if you were not already going to do so, though it is a nice bonus.

That pledge gets you all the miniatures at roughly £27.1 each - probably half price or less. That's quite the incentive even without the vulture - assuming you want 105 assorted ne'er-do-wells.
If it wasn't timed to clash with Salute for this month's money, I'd be tempted to go for that.

That is kind of my point. The vulture isn't an incentive for that level.

A reminder the Kickstarter launches tonight at approx 7pm UK time https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/69613072/1000057089… Currently we have a number of offers and deals on there, many of the pledges offer discounted rates, free pdf rulebook, free miniature/pack of your choice as standard plus there are a number of stretch goal add ons. E,g if it hits £50,000 there are an additional 3 free characters everyone on the faction level and above gets free, including a kick-starter exclusive. More updates on launch!
I'm totally getting that fat guy on the donkey for my SOB bandito! And it worked out well w the pledge structure for people who aren't interested in the game (though I'll probably give it a whirl anyways). Really impressive 1st day total!

I've updated the FAQ with common questions and will add more as needed. Here's the main two:
Can I swap packs between factions on the deals?
Yes you can as long as the faction 'make up' remains the same. I.e 1 x leader, 1 x mounted, 1 x deputy 3 x four model packs. E.g you can order the 2 faction plus book pledge and say, I'll have the Outlaw faction, but swap the leader for the mexican leader, and outlaw pack 1 for female pack 3... etc etc... (or indeed a list of random packs/models as long as they make up a 'faction') . You cannot swap individual models around from any pack (a logistical nightmare).
Can i increase a pledge amount using another pledge 'deal'?
Yes you can, but you only get the bonus models and stretch goals once from the original pledge level. But you can take advantage of the discounts offered. E.G: You have a gaming group and order the all in + book (7 factions, 1 book) but still need more. You can then increase the pledge by £105 effectively adding the 2 faction+ book combo (just an example, you can add what you like) to take advantage of that deal on top and get 9 factions + 2 books.
Again this will info will be collected after the campaign. We will not be using the ‘pledge manager’ (though I’m double checking I understand its function correctly) so the campaign will end at the end. But given the above of being able to add deals to increase your pledge this shouldn’t be an issue.
We hope to bring you a demo game intro video soon, we’re working on it now. I don’t want to promise a timeframe but hopefully within a week or so.
Add ons and stretch goals: As the campaign has moved so swiftly, and looks to be heading towards that £50,000 mark (where all pledges of £45 get a kickstarter exclusive model free!) I’ll be having a think about adding new add ons and stretch goals in between the ones left. I already have some ideas of useful, and nice freebies! E,g A ‘Loot’ counter that is used in the bank robbery encounter (and can be useful in others) with a crate, some coin bags and notes spilling over etc.. Just an idea for now.

We've passed the £50,000 mark! That means everyone with a pledge of £45 or more gets rambler, billy the kid and now the kickstarter exclusive model (will be lady from the cover) FREE!!
I'll be updating some graphics that show these rewards clearer on the page for all to see soon.
I'l also be updating the stretch goals and add ons soon to add more in between the current ones.
This weekend we are working on the demo video, hope to have that up next week.
There wil also be further updates with more write ups about the game, going over what type of encounters are there etc..
There's also been requests for some size comparison shots, so I'll get those done. Probably with GW and PP models as I have those.
Also just a small clarification, on the mix and match pledge if you spend over £45 you also qualify for a free single character of your choice (as if you had faction pledge) it's not 100% clear in the description.
We do read and try reply to all the messages and comments, but please bear with us if there's a delay in getting back to you at any point. Kickstarter really needs to address the amount of spam emails creators receive as it makes it hard to pick out backer questions amongst them.
Thanks!
Adam- Black Scorpion.

We'll be updating some of the stretch goals and add ons very soon, (possible today) to have a few more there in between the larger totals.
We've been working on the demo video and that's progressing nicely. This will just be a little video/simulation to show the very basics of the mechanics of the game, how movement and shooting works, things like that. But we will add more updates detailing a bit more about the scenarios in the book and the campaign system and of course try to answer any questions you have.
My question is this: Is there an interest in a guide of how to make a simple old west building? (or is this something everyone can do?) Are there other little guides or info you'd like to know about? Converting? etc etc..
Bear in mind we're extremely busy with this project at the moment (and Salute approaching fast!) so we can't do it all, but I would like to provide extra useful info if backers are really interested.

As promised we've added a few in between stretch goals! The speed of the backing took us a little by surprise so the early goals went very fast.
So far unlocked are:
Free Rambler, billy the kid and kickstarter exclusive.
We've added at £70,000 a free bank contents, loot sculpt marker ideal for some of the encounters (hope to add pic of that soon)
at £85,000 a free mini weapon sprue, containing six shooter rifle and shotgun with hands on, ideal for conversions.
at £110,000 a surprise bonus we'll reveal should we get closer to that mark.
These are on top of the existing add ons and stretch goals.
Anyone with a pledge of £45 or more gets these added FREE to their order if those levels are reached.
mdauben wrote: Was really interested until I saw it was 32mm. I've got too many 28mm old West figures to switch scales at this point.
What brand of figures do you have/use?
Black Scorpion are very 28mm Heroic (32mm). They work brilliantly with Knuckleduster 32s and work okay with DMH. They match up well the chunkier Foundry figures but outsize Artizan/etc. Do you have older slightly more 25mm figures?
I don't do BS stuff anymore because resin is...awful, but the minis aren't huge unless you're using older stuff.

Reaper are definitely far close to 32 than proper 28. I'd do some research if I were you. I think you might be okay. I run a couple of different companies, but mine are all larger ranges.
I'm not familiar with the scale of Old Glory.

So we’ve had a lot of questions regarding adding models from the current range we have on the website to the pledges. As we’ve mentioned before this is possible, just contact us afterwards and we’ll arrange payment (via PayPal) and to have them added in for no extra postage costs to your pledge.
Packs such as the Earps and Pat Garrett are in the book so it’s understandable people might want to add them.
To this end we’ve added a surprise bonus stretch goal at £65,000.
Anyone with a pledge of £45 or more is eligible for an online offer after the campaign.
- Spend £30 or more in the online store and choose any additional ‘4 pack’ of models FREE! (Any single pack that contains 4 models from the packs on the webstore)
This offer only begins once the campaign ends. It can be used to add to your pledge (contact us via email or message here and we’ll send a PayPal invoice)
Or can be used for an order to be shipped as normal, simply order online and add a note in the comments section with your free pack choice and pledge name/number. (great for people who want to get started early!)
The offer can be used on any range and is valid for 2 years from the end of the campaign. (one use only). Obviously if you want to use it to add in the kickstarter tell us sooner rather than later, but if your kickstarter goes out and you haven’t used the offer it’s still valid for future orders.
In other updates we are closing in on the next stretch goal of £70,000 for another free model! Hopefully we can keep pushing on!
We are close to bringing you the demo video, we’re adding some fancy arrows and graphics to aid the basic rules explanation.

Mini update regarding shipping.

Hi all,
Just a quick confirmation about shipping.
On the pledges it's not worded well when it says ' shipping added checkout/campaign end' (my fault, we can't change the description after launch)
This is because I wasn't exactly sure how kickstarter added it. As any backers will probably have worked out it just adds it automatically as you click 'select this reward' £6UK £10 ROW
Free to the top pledges.
So just to confirm no one will be charged any extra postage after the campaign. But do watch out if adjusting your pledge that you still include the shipping there £6 UK, £10 ROW -FREE top pledges. (especially if you have mix and match).
You can of course adjust your pledge at any time.
Sorry for any confusion, but you don't have to worry about any unexpected charges at the end or after the campaign.
We've made a video with some explanation about the game, some simple demo turns and a bit about the campaign.
This is just to give you some idea of the mechanics, it obviously doesn't represent the full dynamics of a real game or the full rules.
Again the demo table is about half the size we suggest (a 4' x 4' is best). Also note measurements in the book are given in both metric and imperial (or the most appropriate for the translated versions).
All the charts, tokens, rosters etc are provided in the book and will be made available for download.
Here's the link to the video:
A big thank you to Kane for not only narrating the video but putting together all the graphics.
Are these a new line of figures, or Black Scorpions usual top quality ones that they already have for the range?
Asking because if they already have them on hand, the game comes that much faster...
I was already looking at these a hard for use with SOB...
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

As I understand it, they're pretty much all new (with the exception of some of the add-ons like Billy the Kid) and will be added to the existing range - although pretty sure I read that the female gunslingers may replace the existing female models (which TBH are rather on the side of cheesecake minis - whilst the new sculpts are less so...). The sculpts are all done (for the 7 main factions at least) so this KS is all about the numbers and more like a pre-order it seems...
'This Kickstarter is to put the project in action and to give us exact numbers of the book and miniatures ordered to aid in printing and production logistics.
Most of the work is done and ready to see below! The rules, translations (except Italian) and miniatures are all complete. All that's to be done is the final graphics layout of the book and miniature production.'
'we are releasing over 110 new models in addition to the large existing range we have online'
'Risks and challenges
We produce all the miniatures in house and have over 11 years of successfully sending out orders all over the world. The book is complete, barring final layout touches. The translations are complete except Italian, these translations will require new layouts but I don't foresee those causing any delays. All the models are sculpted (except for a few possible add ons) and as we don't contract out to any outside sources for production we are in control of everything giving very low risk. We have even stockpiled large quantities of production materials for casting to mitigate any possible delays through suppliers. This is our second printed publication, meaning we have experience of bringing a printed book to market and dealing with printers. Possible delays could come if the project achieves an extremely high level of funding. But as we know the rate at which we can produce miniatures an accurate estimate of any possible delays could be given.
Overall the risks are low and I have a very high confidence of successfully sending out all the pledges.'

We've just returned from the Salute show in London where we previewed all the models for this campaign. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, many of whom had already pledged.
We've now hit the £70,000 stretch goal! This means anyone with a pledge of £45 (exc postage)or more will qualify for the bank robbery marker token completely free. This will be a kind of 'loot' or crate with coins and money overflowing. Ideal for use in the Bank robbery encounter and others in the book.
With a bit of luck I may be able to show a preview of that and something else we're working on soon.
Quite a few questions regarding tokens in the book. Just to confirm all the the tokens and markers you need are in the back of the book and will also be available as a free download.
This update give a little bit of information about the various encounters or scenarios in the book. These basically give the game a storyline or particular objective to make things a bit more interesting and add an extra element to the game. We’ve added 8 encounters plus 2 bonus encounters in the book. These are just starting points, inventing your own or changing the ones we have is a great way to add new ideas to your games. Even small tweaks can make a lot of difference to the game, so don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun. Note some encounters have special rules which apply regarding basic gameplay rules (e.g movement rules for encounters involving escaping the table), so this is just a general overview.
Each encounter will specify the objectives and who the winner will be at the end.
Ambush: The attacker will divide his gang into 2 halves and randomly select one which is lying in wait for the defender who may use his whole gang. The attacker starts active and catches the defenders in open ground. The defender must try to escape with as many models as he can. The game ends when all the defenders have escaped or been taken out. If more escaped than were taken out the defender wins and vice versa.
Pitch Battle: This is a pretty standard gang fight and can be used for general games. Both sides set up opposite ends of the table and try to take each other out. In each recovery phase any side with 50% or more taken out take an AU test and must score 4+ or they cut their losses and run, losing the game.
Stagecoach: One of the gangs has been entrusted with escorting a stagecoach. This could contain an important person, money, food or something of value. Unfortunately, their route forces them to pass through the territory of their opponents, who decide that they want whatever is contained in that coach! One side with the stagecoach must have a model in control of it to move it, they need to remove it from the table via the opponents table edge, the opponent must take control of it and themselves remove it from the same table edge. You could try this encounter with a VIP or important crate instead of a stagecoach.
Bank Robbery: The attacker secretly notes which table edge he will launch the attack. The defenders aren’t expecting trouble and are spread out and unorganised. A central building represents the bank. The attacker must get in , open the safe and leave the table with it before the defenders stop them. The bank robbery token free stretch goal we are making is ideal for the encounter.
Shootout: Both gangs are mixed around all over town without realising the other is there, when they do all hell breaks loose. What makes this encounter unique is the deployment. Following the guidelines in the encounter you will place one of your models then one of your opponents and vice versa until all models are deployed. The result being both gangs mixed all over the table. The cut your losses rule is used to determine the winner. This could be a good encounter to introduce civilians into with extra rules, perhaps even a third player representing civilians with very limited weapons and a couple of lawmen to protect them to mix things up.
Kidnap/arrest: Use the deployment rules for the shootout above. However this time each opposing gang is specifically trying to arrest or kidnap an opposite member. This is randomly determined and each side has no idea which of their models is the target. The winner is the gang who removes the target model from the table first. In Tombstone you can drag models and mounted models can also use a lasso to drag models!
Loot: Using the loot counters provided in the book, spread them over the table face down (they’re represented as playing cards). Both gangs deploy opposite each other. As well a gunfight breaking out they both try to open as many loot counters as they can. Each contains something of value (theres a list on the encounter page), such as guns and equipment. Some also contain unstable dynamite and will explode on opening! This is another rencounter full of opportunities to tweak and change things. Adding more loot counters, changing what’s in them or what they do all add a new element to the game. Maybe on your final game of a campaign ONE loot crate contains gold/diamonds and ALL the others are booby traps, the winner finds the gold etc etc.. Also adding a few loot counters to other encounters can be fun.
Showdown: Both gangs deploy in front of each in open ground in town. This is a straight shootout and it’s not going to be pretty.
Bonus encounters:
Brawl: This gives rules for an encounter along the lines of a bar brawl without serious weaponry being used.
Gunfight/fastest gun: These rules are used in certain elements of the game such as kidnapping rules. But also allows you to have a fastest gun shootout one on one should you wish. You could even have a competition to find the fastest gun! Warning gunfights are dangerous to health.
So that’s a very brief overview of the encounters. As you can see the possibilities are endless, no doubt you will come up with your own and we encourage people to share them. One of the more common questions we get is regarding civilians. They don’t have specific rules in the game but you can easily add them as you please in the following ways:
1: They play no part in the game and are just to add to the the table look.
2: They only play a part in certain situations which you decide on, house rules. Decide on their stats and what if any weapons they have. They don’t even need to have a full stat line, they could just have a very simple special rule that applies (e.g someone is on their property and they act). Again its up to you.
3: A full encounter around civilians. E.g Outlaws are coming to murder them and the lawmen must defend them. Invent rules as appropriate.
Hope this gives you a little taste and eager to play once the book is ready!
The campaign is nearing its end so this is a general update with some reminders and commonly asked questions regarding pledges etc.
First of all a huge thank you to all that pledged! It's been a massive success and continues to rise in the final hours.
In fact the next stretch goal at £85,000 is currently in sight. With this pledges of £45 or more get a mini weapon sprue free!
So just some final reminders:
We are not using pledge manager, the campaign will end at the end! So this is your chance to add in any add ons or extras you want, this is easily adjusted on the page. Have another look through, do you need the dice set? Extra horses? weapon sprues will certainly be useful.
Shortly after the campaign we will send out a survey, this will find out exactly what you want, we'll probably put an update with this in case anything needs to be made clear. If need be we can always contact people individually so don't worry about anything.
With this many backers there's always going to be the odd post campaign misunderstanding or pledge total error so here's some common areas to double check or be aware of:
Postage: Kickstarter will have already added postage when you pledged, but if you adjusted your pledge be aware that either £6 or £10 of that total is postage. Stretch goals apply to pledges of £45 or more BEFORE postage. There will be no more postage or costs to pay post campaign.
Groups and large pledges: As we've explained before you can add the discounts of pledge levels to existing ones, e.g you pledged all in +book and added £45 for an extra faction deal. But note stretch goals and free figures are only added ONCE per pledge, not per faction ordered!
All in +book: Just to clarify this does not include the unlocked add ons, but these can be selected as your free options if applicable or added to your pledge as normal.
Mix and match/adding items: Please double check you've added the amount correctly if you've a list of different items.
Bases: Yes all the models come with appropriate bases!
The post campaign online offer:
The stretch goal at £65,000 is a free online offer should you choose to use it, it's valid once, up to 2 years.
If you order £30 or more online you receive an additional standard '4 pack' free.
You have two options with this:
1. Add the order to your Kickstarter models when they ship (post free). For this EMAIL us first via the contact page on the website blackscorpionminiatures.com , tell us your name, kickstarter name and pledge number, plus what you want to buy+which pack free and your PayPal email. We'll then send a PayPal invoice and ship these items with your kickstarter.
2. Independent order to be shipped normally (may be subject to postage) Simply place an order online as normal using the website, when you checkout there's a comments section, here put your kickstarter name, pledge number and tell us which free pack you want. If in any doubt whether the comments section worked (no reason it shouldn't) you can always email us to confirm. When we process your order we'll add a comment confirming we've seen the offer.
Thanks again! Adam - Black scorpion.
Sadly, I'm likely to have to either reduce or pull my pledge, so maynolonger be seeing the backer only updates... :(
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just spotted a new update before I adjusted my pledge...

Great news!
We've past the £85,000 stretch goal! Meaning all pledges of £45 or more (before postage) receive a mini weapon sprue completely free! This is in addition to the other stretch goals already unlocked.
There's just a few hours left of the campaign now, still time to get in any last minute additions you may need!
