On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Going to make sure I am on the ball for the SNES one! Will definitely get the pre-order in early.

Missed the opportunity with the NES one, now see they are going for up to £200 on ebay, which is obscene.

Not like we have cheap clone consoles, emulators, retropie, and multicarts. You don't need and shouldn't give nintendo/resellers money for 30 year old games.

Problem solved. And if you can't live without the 3 or 4 games that thing can't play, they make ones that can.

What? Are you talking US sales? I think Japan had ~300k sales and Nintendo announced just under 1 million total units sold in the US as of March. Everything I have seen is that Nintendo isn't being very open about its sales data, and the WII U was also strong initially. I am not sure where you are getting those production numbers, as Nintendo hasn't verified anything but rumors put initial production at 10 million now bumped up to a 20 million target for 2017. For reference, all PS systems sold 50 million + units, so if they can move 20 million, that would be good. (10 million would be pretty anemic for a flagship system.) Game support is lagging, so the big question is whether they can keep sales momentum or if it flounders. In this light, it makes sense not to have products that compete for resources, wither development or sales resources. Conceivably, the classic could dilute the pool of potential Switch buyers, especially those who see it as a cheaper alternative to introduce the kids to Nintendo.

Maybe not try and find reasons to gak on Nintendo?

Some people don't know there are other options. Or else scalpers inflating prices wouldn't be a problem. It's been obvious for a while that Nintendo is a garbage company that alienates and attacks their fans, caters to resellers, and consistently makes inept business moves. Their a crap company and I don't buy any of their products anymore.

Then why be in a thread about Nintendo? If you really dont care about the company why try and argue with others about how terrible they are? I know me personally when I feel that way about something I wipe my hands of said thing and just go on my merry way.

But you do you I guess, keep fighting that good fight and maybe eventually youll get over yourself

Wasn't that the whole point in the first place? Or do you just not care that a company seemingly goes out of it's way to screw over the same people that keep them in business?

They've been doing the same thing with their products for a while now. They intentionally under produce things then pretend to act surprised when something they made to sell sells. Not to mention that they go out of their way to harass fans. It's a crap company that should be treated with the same attitude as Activision.

There have always been clones, emulators, etc. The point was, it was exciting to see Nintendo recognize the want/need for this type of nostalgia product and release an official version. The disappointing fact was Nintendo chose to short stock this product and screw over a lot of customers genuinely excited about it.

Rather than get this, I just said "feth it" and got myself an NES/SNES 3rd party console which I can plug all my old controllers and games in to.

It cost me 40 bucks and frankly works better anyway.

It was a limited run. Limited. Run. I dont see how they are screwing fans over with a limited run. In fact them even making the damn classic shows they clearly ARE thinking about the fans.

This is how this whole mess should be handled honestly. I own a Retron5 anyways so in the end I dont NEED a classic but I did want one.

But I think the fact that none of them can get one kind of proves they AREN"T. It was a crappy system they sold to make easy money off of ignorant people by mooching off nostalgia, except those people couldn't get one without pre-ordering. And due to everyone's surprise I don't think they actually said it was "limited" until they stopped making it.

No. Nobody has yet because I guess the hardware patent only recently expired. I think they are working on one though, I believe there is one planned for the RetroBlox but I'm not positive. N64s are easier to come by anyway.

I'm not really bashing Nintendo so much as this particular action by Nintendo. It really does boil down to what can probably be referred to as the Toymaker's Fallacy that so many stockholders who have no education in basic economics (including some very high profile ones) fall for-- and not just with Nintendo. Toymakers in general have done this for decades (who here remembers Tickle Me Elmo?), and even companies as obscure and small as Games Workshop have been guilty of this nonsense.

The fallacy basically comes down to a company thinking like this: "We want to be able to tell our stockholders that our toys are popular. Therefor, we understock, and show our stockholders how everything sold out, even if this means we lose out on profit we'd earn if we had not understocked." And the stockholders seeing "oh wow, they sold out, my investment is worth the money!" even though a rational stockholder would think "wait a minute, they sold out and there's still high demand, that means they didn't make as much money as they could have, this company's management is incompetent!"

I'm fething glad most games now have digital versions, because it really makes this problem no longer a problem.

You lot? Bruh, I literally started the thread on the NES Classic, I was stoked to get one. But guess what, with them short stocking it and discontinuing it, I can't get one. And before you go off about me hating Nintendo, I had every Nintendo system before, and I just bought a 2DS.

Calm down, I was getting my info from business publications. I don't really give 2 flips about Nintendo, just summarizing what I have seen in terms of the market. If you follow the source from your own link, you will see it reports that 906,000 units were sold in March, which is right in line with what I said. None of the articles talk about worldwide figures, so I am still wondering how they got to 2.5 million. Regardless, it is early and the question is always whether it is sustainable. Right now, things look good and Nintendo stock reflects that, but there are potential clouds on the horizon.

The marketing on the limited runs just seems bizarrely counterproductive. I guess it is some short term cash, but I don't see how it fits into a sound longer term strategy.

I apologise if I came off rash as I truely didnt mean it to come across that way. On the marketing side anyways Ive been curious what the point was too. Im personally thinking its a money grab using nostalgia for the NES and the latest retro craze happening. Currently Im also thinking they pulled it due to ease of pirating/hacking the system, in that regard I get why. Though I just dont get why they would completely pull it and drop the Classic line simply because I could see them making it a full on permanent product and continue to make a steady flow of money, specially if they figured out a way to make hacking the system much much harder.

Maybe if they gave more than 30 games people would quit hacking it.Sure 30 is a decent amount but it's $60 for a bunch of 30+ year old games. So non-official offers better value and convenience.I know they want people to buy off the e-shop but last time I checked games don't transfer between systems, the games are overpriced, and they don't even have a majority of the games on there.

bs. After the crap they pull you shouldn't have any moral obligation to not buy 30 year old video games. The people who actually made those games don't get any of the money, so I don't feel any reason to buy them from Nintendo. Some of those are so vastly overpriced and haven't been available for so long there isn't any reason to buy unless you collect.Zombie Samurai Nation is still over $200.

Stealing is stealing is stealing. They own the rights and so they can choose to sell or not with their property all day long. The fact that some old NES carts they havnt produced in 25-30 years are selling for an obscene amount of money cant be held against Nintendo, they dont see a dime of that money either. And Ill say it again, if youre so against Nintendo then dont give them your money, simple as that, once more though, what your talking about is stealing. Period.
