Yes, this is one of those "show me" threads where I invite everyone on Dakka to post their terrain they use for Necromunda or Shadow War.

With everyone going gonzo over GW's new terrain kits, I thought a thread like this would help inspire people by showing what creations the community is coming up with.

I'll start by showing some of my smaller bits of terrain. The first two items are designed as "throw" or scatter terrain meant to block line of sight on the ground and give a small bit of good cover as the unit advances.

The first is a small pump house built with pieces from GW's Manufactorum and Promethium Relay Pipes. Inside is a tank made from Pegasus Hobby's Chemical Plant. The wall with the pipe is being held on by the glue bottle because I need to paint the inside before I glue it all together. Originally I wanted to have an exploded tank inside but I decided not to go that route. I guess they replaced the tank but weren't concerned about replacing the walls.

The next creation is a larger pumping station. This piece has elements from from GW's Manufactorum, and a stack from the new Shadow War sprues. I don't like where I put the stack (over a section with an opening) so I may move it to the other corner. I also don't like the top of the stack and will likely modify it somehow later on.

The third piece is some sort of boiler. It has pieces from the new Shadow War sprues, Promethium Relay Pipes, and decorative bits from Mantic's Deadzone terrain (you can't really see them well from this angle. sorry.)

And, lastly, I made a bridge. What can I say, bridges are important in Necromunda/Shadow War. You'll notice most of it comes from the Shadow War sprues, with decorative bits from GW's Manufactorum and Mantic's Deadzone.

What you don't see is the major component of my terrain. That's because I am far from finished building it. I have another SWA box and a few Galvanic Magnavent on order. I need to wait for them to arrive before I can complete my first major building. Sucks that GW underestimated the demand so woefully but what can you do? I'll post it eventually once the kits arrive and I can finish it.

In the mean time, what have you guys done with your stuff? Take pics and post them in this thread. I need ideas and inspiration just like you guys.

Really nice so far i have magnetised all the side railing peices so i can place them how and where i want. but other than that i havent done much

I'm considering magnets (not sure how much stuff to build into 'set pieces' and how much to leave modular) - is it easy enough with them?

My Necromunda terrain (will get used for Shadow War when I get the rulebook) isn't based around GW kits, but it might provide some inspiration.
You can see it all here...
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/651712.page
and here:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/612801.page
...but here's some of the highlights. There's a variety of stuff, but more and more I'm focusing on elements with multiple levels that can be connected by bridges and gantries. Almost all of what you see is based around old and broken toys I've found at the resale shops.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Honestly its not too hard to do im basically doing the side railings and the ladders, the big dome onto the cylinder piece, i dont know how im going to do the connections joining the walkways.

Here's a gallery of the terrain I've been building so far - http://imgur.com/a/kphyL

A couple highlights below

Spoiler:

Paint is: prime black, overspray metal, overspray desert yellow, edge drybrush black, edge drybrush metal, blue wash cabling, stipple orange (for rust), splash on typhus corrosion.

My main design goal was to make as much 3D accessible terrain for a 3x3 table, so - lots of walkways providing erratic cover. The walkways themselves have no clips, but any sort of "junction" or "platform" has clips on them. This will allow each piece to be placed as a terrain piece during setup and to maintain an incredibly modular aesthetic.

As requested, tiles are 1'x1' 1/4" hardboard.
The two tiles at each end are now fully screwed and glued on and all elements glued together on the tile.

@Judgedoug: Misremembered the combo I quoted, see contraption to the left.
I am proud of that one because a fair bit of space is available and allows for a slight jump needed if an adjoining tile to the left.
The vat with dome underneath was a godsend since I was looking for a means of having a good 2nd floor line of sight blocker: that is the business.
I intend on making that tile next as soon as the tile in the middle gets some love and is glued and screwed down.

Note: making use of the various flanges, a polystyrene 1/2" tube fits in those perfectly, see demonstrated on bottom left.

I find I use-up both diagonal pieces for my 3-way tiles but when you have 2 kits you have enough extra to add a 3rd floor.

dude, looks so great. Very inspiring stuff.

Have you considered making ramps? I have been considering using a rubberized backing for ramp surfaces- maybe granny grating, sprayed with rubber spray, so that models don't slide. I'll have to mess with the incline.
But I think for a 5 inch high ramp, at a 30 degree incline, the ramp itself would be 10 inches long (and take up about 8 2/3 ")
Ramps like that are great for LOS blockers (esp if you make support struts, or put barrels hidden underneath) and adds a little more variety.

I was thinking of getting some polystyrene stairs:
https://robhawkinshobby.blogspot.ca/2014/02/terrain-tutorial-simple-stairs.html
Another way would be to make a series of platforms to act like steps.
Tempted to use the Cities of Death floor tiles and cut a bunch of squares and use various structural shaped polystyrene to join them together.
It is a serious thought to bridge the gap between the 5" tall SWA terrain and the old 3" Necromunda by making two 1" tall platforms.

I DO have some old WW2 pontoon bridge models which provide a ready-made ramp with structural beams on both sides of it so it "looks right" (minus the pontoons).
I originally intended them for joining the odd structure together as a catwalk.

Another option I looked at was some train bridges with the low sides:
https://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/cvy/cvy1903.htm
$13 is not too horrible and it has built-in the rough surface but the rubberized spray would make things certain.

Got better pictures of my configurations (analysis paralysis set in a few times).
I am beginning to be a fan of giving players an opportunity to jump some reasonable gaps.
The third tile I decided a great big cylinder gives a good sight-line blocking feature.
The factory behind it is a 1 foot cube which is just being too obvious putting that out.

Really slow progress but I like making my stuff solid.
Got the three main tiles populated, glued and screwed on, may add bits as I go and the tiles need some busy bits on them:

Talizvar,

those are great suggestions. I'm gonna hit a hobby shop for those train bridges, see what I can find. A mix of ramps and stairs would be great.

Keep posting pics as you work on stuff!
May I recommend making the ground terrain of some of them have toxic pools? Maybe the broken pipe from the Promethium pipes set sticking out of one of the plugs.
In fact that's another way you can do modularity on your tiles, with streams and pools of toxic goo on the base, with bridges to go over some, or piles of debris for crossing points (half submerged barrels etc)

In my latest pic dump from last night's games, one of the tables I used the GF9 BFIAB Toxic Pools situated at the broken promethium relay pipes to give that effect. http://imgur.com/a/kphyL

You know that 90 degree pipe that comes with the SWA kit? (Ah just as you have it in the spoiler'ed picture)
I was thinking of having that upside down and have it connected to one of the tanks and the other end plunge into the middle of a crater terrain.
I would then fill it up with some water effects stuff with some green and yellow ink lightly mixed in.
Give the impression of tapping/recovering a "natural" resource (or more likely a large spill that was built over).
In fact that's another way you can do modularity on your tiles, with streams and pools of toxic goo on the base, with bridges to go over some, or piles of debris for crossing points (half submerged barrels etc)
It is very do-able I think I am waiting "for the vision" of something with the look of a water treatment plant:

possibly accompanied by a "pump farm":
Spoiler:
But that is getting a bit too ambitious and would need a serious visit to the plumbing department.

Spoiler:
I am trying to remember somewhere I think Teragenisis someone showed you could get dome beads that made great looking bubbles for a bubbling pond or magma.

Looking at your stuff, I really should allow for some large place able terrain.

I am thinking of joining the two dome halves to make a full sphere and run a few pipes from them.
So many options but cannot go much more crazy getting this stuff since it is not exactly cheap.

Oh man that would be great, especially suspending by a network of pipes.

Well, those prior pictures makes these efforts seem small in comparison!
Well, my 4th tile I put together, a tower with various pipes coming off of it.
I was finding I had to get creative at minimizing the use of flanges I was burning through.

This is putting the two half spheres together, a bit reminiscent of a water tower with run-off pipes.
Like the others, I have to add more detail but I got some on.
All glued down and screws in.

I really should make some open vat features, someone just has to fall in a vat.
Something to give Harlequins trouble even though they do not take fall damage.
I can be a bit more stingy on the levels and start mixing some of the extra bits into other things then chemical industrial.

Built some more terrain and updated the imgur album.

Here's a couple pics of a setup I did after building some more.

The idea was that there is no spot on the ground where you can draw line of sight from one deployment side to the other.
There are four different height 1 structures.
There's one height 2 structure that connects them all.
The pools on the ground are toxic (damaging), so don't walk into or fall into them.

So both sides are driven to have to climb, and climb high.

Nice!
I really like those cargo containers, much more beefy than the GW ones.

I like how you managed to get a good, long catwalk up on the 3rd level, I "settled" for platforms at those levels for possible sniper nests.

I did leave openings on the platforms so I could make some place able catwalks to bridge them.

For that big open vat: I think there is some cross-stitch rounds that may fit that opening near the bottom and if you have a ladder to spare, have one run down the inside (for looks only really). If you add an access ladder on the outside... does it become a combat pit? Hey, wait, I should see if a bulk CD lid (or an actual CD) fits inside... it might be about right in size.

I am thinking that since I have a bunch of tubes, I might be able to make a few "vat-farms"

Now if only someone would oblige and fall in them, that would make it all worthwhile.
We will not allow a roll for being "Jokerized".

For the open vat I was going to fill it full of styrofoam chunks and then pour glue and spray paint onto it to melt them together. Then when that dries, cover with acrylic water effects with some drops of nurgle rot for flavor.

Ladder in the vat is a good idea though!

you should do a tile that's all vats, with broken platforms at your 4 connecting points, and a central platform. so you have to jump. probably a 3" gap so a 3+ on a d6 will make it.

Oh, that would look very nice.
Ladder in the vat is a good idea though!
It suddenly occurred for it to look "real" as an open vat that a service ladder would be needed.
I guess I was thinking of it being empty since there is no good way to get someone to obligingly fall into it (get a ladder up the side and a gantry around the perimeter?).

Brilliantly evil.
Good ground level LOS blocker, big choke-point cross-road, need to think on giving some cover to make crossing that area not quite a certain death-trap.
Reminds me a bit of a sewer treatment plant in Fallout 4... (Ah, "Warwick" homestead).
Took me forever to properly get a path over those vats.

Here is some recently painted terrain for Necromunda using Armorcast terrain (except for the grating piece). First photo is a real world photo that gives a good idea of what I am trying to do with the terrain painting. Looking for dirty and gritty, but with fairly high color saturation (HDR levels) and color variety. Colorful, but still Grimdark?

And here is where we are currently. Definitely getting there... Still need to do some metallic details, steel, brass, etc.
As always, clicking on the pic will take you to the pic in PhotoBucket and clicking on the magnifying glass in the upper right will take you to a much higher resolution version of the pic.
