The new crane from the Galvanic Servohaulers kit is larger than I expected it to be. I'm making a mast (climbing frame) that will have the crane itself sitting on what would normally be level four of SWA terrain. The mast is being made from Manufactorum elements and stuff from Deadzone. I plan to attach some smaller pipes made from drinking straws to make it look interesting and visually tie it into the rest of the terrain pieces I'm making.

Sad thing is that while I pre-ordered a lot of terrain, most of it is waiting on GW to resupply the guys I ordered from. That's why I haven't been posting new pics of my terrain - they're all incomplete to some extent. I guess I'm going to have to look for new places to buy my stuff from in the future. :(

The crane fits well on a Battlezone tower in fact I'm surprised at how compatible the 2 sets have been, other than the height issue (5" versus 6") everything fits with minimum adjustment.

Here's my crane tower I've a load of bits half built waiting on more parts to arrive.

That's pretty much exactly what I've got except I'm using Mechanicus building elements for the base.

I actually like the crane on both towers, I think the only solution is to have 2 cranes My crane is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, in the meantime, why isnt anyone else painting these new panels?

Because it takes FOREVER
2 solid days of painting, and I've only done the metallics, and got a dark blue basecoat on the painted parts and have only done one quick test fit
Hopefully I'm done BEFORE the kits go OOP
It should fit in with my other terrain when done

Excellent work. Are those panels two pice (grate and lower level/pipes separate) or one piece. One piece would be unbearable.

How did you build that circular tiered tower?

Also excellent job on the necromunda terrain and bulkheads. I've kept mine stock for nostalgia, but it would be really nice to put my bulkheads on proper painted and textured terrain where they'd have a chance to shine.

The new panels are oNE peice, and yes..they are a pain, but i've developed a system.

The WIPs of the circular tower are somewhere back in this thread,
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/399826.page
but the levels are coffee can lids around a central PVC tube with Granny Grating (crosstich fabric) for plates.

Thanks Man! appreciate it

One, piece, ouch!

Thanks for the explaination regarding the tower. Are those split-pea rivets I see?
Hmmm tastes like Terra-Genesis!

It's 5 inches to the top of the platforms. Do you want to know the height of the legs/ladders & thickness of the platform?

The ladders are designed to plug into the underside of the floors at 5 inches. 5 " floor to top of floor panel. Where Necromunda was 3" per floor. I'm not at home to measure the Alchomite stack, as I havent opened that box yet, but if it's using that same ladder, it should be the same. I think for gaming purposes, we'll just consider it a 5" rise. Troops cannot climb anything over 2" without the use of a ladder

Here is some recently painted terrain for Necromunda using Armorcast terrain (except for the grating piece). First photo is a real world photo that gives a good idea of what I am trying to do with the terrain painting. Looking for dirty and gritty, but with fairly high color saturation (HDR levels) and color variety. Colorful, but still Grimdark?

The steelworks I used to work in had the actual mill stand and other machines in blue, walkways and handrails in yellow and paths on the ground red edged in yellow. Add rust, grime and oil stains to taste.

Have any of you seen the ladder packs that Promethium Forge is making?
https://www.etsy.com/shop/PromethiumForge?ref=l2-shop-info-name
3 and 5 Inch versions!
Ladders are one of the more annoying things to scrachbuild and you never seem to have enough. Rather than gluing them to terrain I'm thinking about gluing them each upright to a pile of crates or other small scatter terrain so they can be placed next to any terrain piece I choose.

Sick ladders

i remember seeing people make ladders and guard railings using cheap homedepot wire mesh in a decently thick gauge.

also chairs.

i really need to get going making my SWA box. but i REALLY wana make a cool table but currently dont have the equipment to make clean cuts in sheet steel so my idea is on hold until i can figure it out :(

Why sheet steel, if I may ask?

i wana make a magnetic table using sheet steel. 4x 2x2 square torsion boxs with mdf. get a flush pc of steel on top. lets me put terrain down with magnets and NEVER have to worry about it shifting.

im think i can use some stone textured spray paint to get a good durrable surface on it.

then i can make any number of buildings and other steel topped boxes or buildings for vertical interest with bridges and pipes all over the place.

just need a break and i dont feel like paying my steel guy like $20 extra per cut on steel i need to buy anyway.

I like plastruct. Works great when it's glued along something but for standalone ladders I think I want something a bit more sturdy.

I don't recall exactly, but I think I recall reading in a post about magnetic figure storage that you can buy steel shingles.

Here's some 6x18" sections.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-6-in-x-18-in-22-Gauge-Plain-Sheet-Metal-800577/204325600

They'd be precut and you'd have the advantage of having a nice grid look which would add to the cement look once painted.

Alternatively, I think most home repair shops will cut a piece to size for a farily low price.

Here's a 3x3 magnetic chalkboard.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-3-ft-x-3-ft-Magnetic-Chalkboard-57564/301425701
A bit more pricey, but it's probably going to take paint really well.

^^good ideas^^
or a series of smaller plates even...or mix some iron filings IN the texture paint?

Sounds like you need to build the table structure first anyway though, might as well build the vanilla table, then magnetize it

Two quick shots of my setup. Those are contents of two Shadow War boxes, combined with almost all scatter terrain for my (still unpainted) lava/ash wastes board. For normal 40K all those rocks are too much for 6x4 board, but here I still feel it is a bit empty. I'll probably buy some more Mechanicus terrain sets to improve.

Those are still in the process of playtesting and deciding how modular exactly I want Mechanicus terrain to be. More modular looks better (less repetetive visually and breaks this octagonal look a bit) but would be real pain to maintain after painting and would need a bit of tampering with connection methods... Less modular is less troublesome and more sturdy, but looks a bit boring and I feel I'll run out of interesting builds on this table quickly.

I agree, I think I will be incorporating more walkways that are NOT be mechanicus panels. That looks really nice though!

Yeah table needs to come first before i can mess around with it.

though i did send yesterday just de spruing and assembling some of the parts.

they are quite quality kits.

also need to hunt down all of my old necro bulk heads.

also wana wreck a sky shield landing pad for the little feet and deck panel for doors and other cool ideas.

i might be going a little insane

The skyshield is still a relatively cheap kit, and those feet are very useful. That's my biggest problem with the new terrain kits, only the $75+ kits have the feet.
