Subject: For Grotningrad! Grot Revolution: Planning it all out
I've been a bit bored of warhammer lately. I don't know why, but I'm rekindling the modelling flames with a brand new spanking army!
My plan is to have an army of Grots. I've taken some inspiration from CommisarKhaines blog, and after seeing a few pictures I want to have a mostly armour-focused army, at around 1000 points. With no Orks.
So grot tanks and big gunz.
The catch? I'm a poor teenager and I have no money, so my budget is at 750 swedish crowns (about 83 dollars, 65 pounds) to create a 1000 point army from.
I'll start with 500 points, then 750 then 1000, so think of it like a stretch goal kind of thing. To manage my money I'll scratchbuild or loot all vehicles and artillery, including taking scale models and putting them under the knife.
Mek Gunz: 3x Ammo Runt, 3x Extra Gretchin, 3x Lobba
750 points list
Spoiler:
1000 points list
Spoiler:
Purchases: I'm buying 28 old school gretchin from a friend for 40 crowns (4,46 bucks), which will fill up my troops choices, which are two mobs of 10-15 gretchin led by a Grotnissar. My plan is to have 6-8 Grot tanks, with either Rokkit Launchas or Grotzookas, and 3-5 Lobbas or kannons as the main force of the army.
Next purchase would be either the Fantasy Grot regiment with 20 grots, which would all be ammo runts, oilers, and tank crew, or the 40k Gretchin box which has 10 less, but they actually have 40k weapons. After that it's 1/72 and 1/56 tanks for grot tanks and possibly a counts as Grot Mega Tank.
Yay, another revolution! Expect me to drop by with well-intended but unwanted advice :p.
For the list: is there a reason you're not taking a warboss? You'r missing out on ways to hurt high AV/armour and his LD. A MA warboss or a biker warboss would be a solid addition to your list! If you need to make up points with low model count, meganobz are also a good addition btw, and dead killy - though they do need a transport.
I'm a bit jealous of the old school gretchin, since I don' t have any of these. They'll be a nice start to your revolution! I would definitely consider the gretchin instead of the goblins, since the gobbos are a tad larger, and mainly interesting for the wolf rider legs you get on the sprue. Unless you plan to add bikers or something, I'd wait till you have more 40K bitz to 40k-ify them.

No worries, Emberlord! I'll try to do it for the both of us.
CommissarKhaine: I'm not sure. I just didn't see where the Warboss would fit in. He'd be all alone...
Or I could put him on a bike, I have an old chariot form fantasy I could use. Hm...
I too really like the old school gretchin. Only thing is they're pretty unimaginative, they all have the same pose. I'll have to Convert a few, and make two-three commissars.

They're closer to grot size than the multi-part goblin regiment, but I'd only consider a few models usable. The gnoblar lookout from the ogre kit is pretty useful IMO.

Update: No 2nd-ed gretchin this weekend :( I'll get them next month, so I'm just focusing on all the scratchbuilding I have in front of me right now. If you're luckky you might get some pics!
I know it's been a while, but I really wanted to finish the basics of at least one of the tanks before posting the first pics:
That's the Lobba. I'm not sure though... it looks more like a Kannon to me, but that's ok since I can use both. What do you think? Yes, yes, rivets and teef will be added, together with battle damage.
And the first Rokkit Launcha tank. Only basics so far: hull and tracks. The turret was built for another tank that I scrapped, but the boxy form fit with the hull so I thought I'd pair them together. The plan is to have a grot sitting in the open part of the turret, holding a grenade. Possibly another one standing behind the tower.
Exhaust pipes, side skirts, ladders, teef, weathering and rivets will all be added when I'm done with the basics. What do you think?

It's been 4 days.. relax . You'll burn yourself out otherwise.
Liking the basic shape of the grot tank. Though the turret is slightly on the big side, it does remind me of the ragnarok tanks the Valhallans use. The mek gun is looking OK in the first post, but very skewed in the second. Are the wheels still loose? I'd suggest making a reinforcing rim around the end of the barrel, that always adds a nice touch.

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I know the turret is a bit big, as I said it was made for another tank I scrapped. I don't know, I like it. I'll cover it in lots of grots!
And yes, the cannon itself is a bit lopsided - I thought it'd look a bit more scrappy if it wasn't perfectly geometrical. The wheels are glued, but not fully.
I've been a bit slow lately, I'm moving houses so I might have to put this project on hold. What I have been doing is looking for ideas. I figured that the tank i've built so far sort of looks like a soviet KV-2, right? With the big turret? I've thought about making mini shermans, panzers and so on. Also, commander tanks: I want two of them in total, and since each one can take two weapons (probably grotzooka and big shoota/rokkit launcha and big shoota) I've thought about either making an M3 Lee style tank, or like the picture I've attached. Opinions, thoughts?
I've converted several 1:72 models into ork vehicles, so it works fine. The WHFB goblins make good tank commanders/pilots because their torso comes in two parts, so you might want to pick some up.

Yeah, I have a stash of 8+ year old 1/72s I'll convert. What do you think about taking a Maus tank and using as a commander tank? And yes I'll buy 1-2 boxes of them, perfect for commanders and crew.

SO MUCH FUN CONVERTING STUFF FROM SCRATCH. I am especially digging the mek gun.
I agree, the converting is the best part of playing orks. The only problem with the mek gun is that I have no inspiration or mojo for the next 5...
