Hello,
I am debating which chapter to play as my gladius. I will give my list and you guys/gals tell me what chapter you think would give the best rules buffs. I am thinking iron hands (feel no pain with apothecaries plus it will not die on characters seems awesome). Now for my list at 2000 points.
Chapter master with storm shield, artificer armor, combi-plasma, and a power fist on a bike. (In plasma command squad in drop pod).
Chaplain with combi-plasma and power fist (in plasma command pod)
Command Squad with apothecary and 4 plasma in s pod.
Command Squad with apothecary and 4 meltas in a pod.
Ironclad dreadnaught with heavy flamer in a pod.
2 Assault squads with (x2) flamers in pods (5 man squads)
2 Devastator squads with (x4) plasma cannons with regular razorbacks (5 man squads).
6 Tactical squads with flamers in lascannon razorbacks. (5 man squads).
(Suppression force)
2 Whirlwinds.
1 Landspeeder with typhoon ml and multi-melta
.
Tactics are very straight forward. Plasma for big/important target hunting. Meltas to pop vehicles or big/important targets. Lascannons for well everything they are 20 points... Flamers to take out bikes and blobs. Iron clad ignores most St. 6 from the front so it can be versitile while giving me a free pod unlocking 3 pods turn 1 (let alone you have to deal with this guy or else...). Suppression for is just a cheap tging to take for the must include. I prefer tge suppression over scouts because the 65 point cheaper scouts arent going to do anything. And finally plasma devs are probably my favorite unit it the game, wont debate them or drop them for any reason. They wont start in their razorback, but in good position to lay fire.i feel the list in itself is super balanced eithout special rules. So what rules would benefit it more and why?

White Scars or Ultramarines, personally.
White Scars simply because of how many vehicles you have to Scout up, and the ability of Hit and Run, especially with the amount of flamers you have.
Ultramarines would allow for plenty of rerolls, to make those combi weapons and plasmas less likely to miss/overheat. Rerolling the wounds of your flamers (seeing as they don't hit, per say) would also be fun.
Still, I think the main things that reduce the power of this list are the flamers (grav cannons are better, but that requires you to drop stuff), and the plasma cannons (arguably the worst heavy weapon in the marine book, because of no snap shot ability), but you have insisted on keeping them.
Also, I'm not sure if the Captain can go in a drop pod when on a bike?

This is also worth considering, although beware that you'll probably need to model the Sergeants as Apothecaries, and people might not be okay with playing against FW stuff.

I dont see why he couldn't he takes up the space of three bodies, haven't read anything saying a bike cant be transported.
I do think white scars would be great with hit and run (no scount unless you take khan). Which i am thinking of dropping the CM for Khan...and using those plus tac squad flamer points and doing another iron clad....
Grav is great, i just dont want that points sink (grav devs are super points costy) and with placement and tactics....you wont be moving plasma devs... Not arguing i love grav devs, just trying fo not spend that many points on them.
Overall i agree so far and see why those would be two good options! Thanks for the imput.

I am trying go stay away from FW (i am sure that adding FW would make it stronger and more awesome...i just dont do it for personal reasons).

You get rerolls without being ultras. Is the extra rerolls really worth losing scout and hit&run or FNP and it will not die?

The Ultras give you lots more rerolls. Again, as you pointed out and corrected me, no Scout without Khan, so H&R is the only benefit. Sure, you could have Hit and Run, but with the relative low value of your squads, they wouldn't last too long in CC anyway, and they will want to stay close anyway to use their flamers. Extra rerolls will give you an edge, and with UM tactics, they can be triggered most game turns, as you see fit.
I'm still not sure a Bike can be taken in a Drop Pod, but I have yet to see a reason why not - just seems odd I've never seen it before.

White Scars with Khan to get a huge amount of board control right out of the gate as well as being able to get a bit of a re-deploy to counter what your opponent is doing.
The Scars will also allow you to scout of Grav Cannons inside rhinos to get within their 24" range to have a very strong 1st salvo of gunfire. Hit and run is a nice touch as well. Hit and run dreadnoughts are just so silly its great.

I mean why build half of captain/chaptermaster smashfetcher, go all out and give him gorgon's chain and a thunderhammer
on the chapter I would go iron hands and would skip the free transports on one command squad to give them bikes and all grav over plasma. additionally I would give things combi gravs not combi plasma

gorgon's chain turns the chapter master up to 11
reason for the bikes is to have majority toughness 5 and the speed boost. you give up a free transport but totally worth it. leave your meltsa squad there but do the plasma squad as grav guns (which are now relentless due to having bikes) so 12 grav shots at BS 4 yes please

If you simply want the best chapter tactic, White scars grant the strongest advantage by a good length. Iron hands and red scorpions are decent, and the rest fall in varying positions below. Hit and run, even on i4, is ridiculously good. You can completely bone enemy tactics with it.
Scars also have one of the most silly good relics in the hunter's eye, with really only the iron hands' gorgon chain putting up any major competition on that front.
You can't put a bike in a pod. Transports may only take infantry unless stated otherwise on the transport. For example, stormravens specifically allow jump infantry. (And they and pods specifically allow dreadnoughts.)

What does the chain do?
Not sure losing alpha strike then paying 35 points to gain majority toughness 5 would be worth. Also i dont gave 35 points to spare. And this wpuld also cost me to lose one of my drop pods turn one as i would drop to 4 pods. Maybe both are just viable options? I think it really comes down to what you lose to take them as bikes overall.
Gain: relentless gravs, unit mobility, overall harder to wound.
Lose: turn one drop pod, drop pod that has obj ec., 35 points cut from other sources, alpha strike ability of the unit (it will drive across the table getting shot).
Honestly this would be more viable as white scars so the bikes could outflank and have hit and run.... Automatically Appended Next Post: Niv, you are correct. Reading as we talk about it. All more to run him in a bike pack and play them as white scars....see we are getting places. What book or place can i get the white scars items mentioned from? I want to look into that...

You technically can have both. Nothing prevents you from give the command squad bikes and giving them a dedicated transport.

The relics for many of the other chapters can be found most easily in the Angels of death supplement. Some are reprinted from the kau'yon books, and some are new, but AoD is a shopping spree for marine players.

I don't know the rules on if they can or cannot, but if you give them bikes army builder prevents you from giving a command squad a transport not sure if this is an error on battlescribe or if there is a real reason behind it

Once again,........ You cannot take Chapter Master in any recent Space Marine formations, as the offical FAQ do not allows upgrading the Captain into CM in those formations.
I think if you are looking at Gladius Strike Force, and want to be competitive, White Scar with Khan is the best way to go, Devastators with 2 Grav Cannons in Rhino coupled with Scout move converted from Khan is so great, biker command squad with 4 grav guns and FnP and HnR and 3+ jink is also too good as a fire platform, shoot the enemy, charge in to tie them up, then pull out in their assault phase so as to avoid being shoot, and shoot them again is very powerful.
If you are not limited in Gladius Strike Force, going Iron Hand with their Medusa Strike Force is also awesome, you make every of your marines tougher than Necron Warriors in Decrion, and the Captain with Gorgon's Chain, bike, artificer armor joining biker command squad will enjoy 2+/3++/2+++ unless there are S10 or StrD. Generally it is less offensive than White Scar, but a lot more durable.
Alternatively, I think Ultramarine may not be bad as what internet tells you as well. Multiple Dorctrine will shine if you are fighting Flying Circus, especailly in their recent exclusive detachment Vitricx Strike Force that allows you to combine using dorctrines, having 3 rerollable Grav Cannons from those Tactical Squads along with 4 rerollable Lascannon shots from Devastators snap shooting into the sky at the same time? You will certainly scared that Flyrant to jink and reduce its firepower for a while.

it is still good until the new rules ware out so any upcoming tournaments will be good. personally I will not miss the gladius, it was fine for tournament play and I faced it many times but in more casual pick up games it did get annoying my 1850 orks vs 2250+ space marines. starting with the lowest power book and then climbing up an additional 400 points is a pretty steep climb. Here is hoping they power level balance everything reasonably well so it is less of an issue.
