Not disputing the naturalness of the pose, but are you aware of the artwork this model is based on?

This. The sculpt is exactly what it is supposed to be: an homage to a classic piece of artwork. I'm not particularly fond of it myself as I got into 40K later, after the aesthetic had moved on a little, but Madfly's paintjob has me reconsidering my previous decision to pass on buying the model.

I was not aware of it being based on that piece of artwork. However for me that doesn't change anything about the model, just the person needing the slapping.
Also I'm sure they could have decided to fix the pose, even if just slightly, and it would still have payed homage to the drawing, without inducing leg cramps by looking at it.
