With the distinct possibility of GW retconning the Horus Heresy, could the Squats come back?
Does anyone know what GW's stance is on Squats? I remember them banning people from their old forum if anyone mentioned them.

With the release of flyers, GMCs, super heavies, IKs, Admech, GSCs, Harlies, Primarchs and the new faction for AoS, I literally write off nothing at this point.
However do I think Squats will return in their old form i.e. mechanised dwarfs in Space? No. But possible down the line in a very reinvented guise.

What might be interesting is if they publish rules for the last Squat models produced with the proviso "no new Squats coming; Squats still squatted in the fluff, but you can play them now if you like!"
It'd be something of a cop-out, but hey, it'd be something.

Squats actually got a mention as a race still within 6th edition, much as this one loves taunting 8th and AoS at every moment.

If you have the BRB triple pack they get mentioned (in the same way as 6th) in the current background book too.

From what I read, a GW person stated, "whatever you think you know about HH ending is wrong.....it will be retconned. (not a direct quote). Many are assuming they will change who dies and how badly others were injured in order to bring back all Primarchs. I wonder if this means Horus will be alive?

Squats of old are never coming back. Period. They were largely considered a joke faction ridiculing tough macho bikers just by their very existence. Nowadays, the grim darkness of the far future is serious business.
At this point you might ask yourself: "Why are Orks still around? They are goofy, too." Yes, Orks (english soccer hooligans) are the only comedic relief allowed in a setting which caters mostly to the imperial factions. The imperium of man is a very oppressive regime that could give George Orwell´s "1984" a run for it´s money. So, a little fun is essentially required to fend of depression and despair. Though, two silly factions would threaten the tone of 40K.

So for those people who don't deliberately misconstrue things for attention here's what this rumor ACTUALLY was.
Lady Atia said the final fight between the Emperor and Horus was going to end up being very different from how we think of it now and that THAT would be the retcon. Not the whole series.
Now, does that preclude a world shaking event that changes the entire Horus Heresy retroactively? No.

Primaris marines replace current marines. Current marines are midgets next to Primaris. Squats are midgets. Current marines become Squats.

The squats were all but wiped out as thier hearthworlds we in the path of one if the splinters of hive fleet Behemoth. There are some left, but not many.
However in 40k the closest thing to Squats right now are Demiurg. They are part of the Tau empire and may be added in the future like Kroot or Vespids.

Some Clans are part of the Tau Empire.

Just as even if Kroots are generally part of the Tau Empire you can encounter tribes and planets outside it or even Kroot fleets that work as mercenaries for other forces in the galaxy

How is this any different from a marine or so many human beings whether fictional or otherwise?
Same thing is happening around the world as I type this...
Do you have the same response?
Given your non welcoming attitude towards orks, what about other immigants?
Tyranids? Eldar corsairs and exodites? Tau?
And given your attitude towards these races,
Maybe their attitude towards yours is justified?

The 'official' stance on Squats is that they were dropped due to the designers at the time (2nd edition) being unable to find a direction for them that felt right once Space Wolves took the 'Space Vikings' ticket.
The banning of discussion on the GW forums was an action by the forum moderators to stop rampant silliness from people who just couldn't let it go, rather than any official direction from GW.
So, particularly given the mention in 6th edition, I think there's certainly the possibility that they might return at some point (although I would expect a rename would be in order. All hail the return of the Sq'uaa'ti!) provided the studio can come up with a saleable concept for them that fits the current setting.

T'au growth involves invading Imperial worlds... why would anyone 'welcome' a hostile invading force?
Because my attitude is to kill anything that wants to cause harm, it justifies their behaviour to be galatic jerks in the first place?... OK man

I personally have always like the idea of squats, not the horned helmets and biker gang parts but the squats unique biologically would make a lot of scientific sense. Given that humanity in 40k has spread across the galaxy and settles a wide array of planets, it would only make sense that some of these planets would be larger with higher gravity. Given the science you wouldn't even have to wait for evolution as the higher forces of gravity exerted onto a human through there natural development would compress there form in as little as one generation. Granted this greater gravity would reek hell on our insides, drastically reducing life expediencies. From there natural selection would favor those that live longer until through evolution life expectancy normalizes.
Outside of that however they would still be pretty much human, even more so than other abhumans like Ogryn and Ratlings which have clear genetic mutations. That said I don't see the logic in making a squat army. Being human they would basically have access to all the same tech that the rest of the Imperium and stat wise while they would be stronger and tougher than you or I, I don't know if they would be able to reach the same level as a space marine.
