So for Vanguard Veterans: Am I reading this right that the Sgt can now take the relic blade AND a Storm shield?
Cause if he can, looks like my 5-man VV unit will be:
Sgt with relic blade and SS
2 with SS and TH
2 with dual LCs.
All for under 200 points...

Seems that's a viable option for sure.
I'm currently looking at putting together a Sanguinary Guard squad kitted out as follows:
Three with Encarmine Axes, two with plasma pistols, one with an Angelus Boltgun (saves a couple of points)
Two with Encarmine Blades, one with a Plasma Pistol, one with an Angelus Boltgun (same thing here, saves a couple of points)
All models equipped with Death Masks
That squad Paired with a Sanguinary Guard Ancient with a Death Mask, Powerfist & Plasma Pistol. This model will be added for larger games, and the entire squad will likely be lead/joined by a jump pack Sanguinary High Priest, or a jump pack Librarian depending. (One for restoring wounds/models to the unit, the other providing a 4+ invulnerable save to the squad on top of their 2+ armor save.)
The squad itself is under 200 points and with the ancient is still under 300. Really looking forward to getting this squad built and painted up!
Take it easy for now.

My only question is if the psychic powers that effect friendly blood angels units within 12" (Shield of Sanguinius & Unleash Rage) can target themselves. It seems to me they can, as the Psyker is a friendly Blood Angels unit within the range in question. I've had discussion with a few friends locally that disagree, stating the psyker cannot target himself with ether buffing power as it doesn't explicitly say the power can do so.
That said, I'm of the opinion the powers can effect any unit inside of 12", including the Psyker himself.
Just figured I'd pose the question. Take it easy.

Sidebar on Auras states if the keywords match, the effect takes effect. I've seen few instances where the model rule specifically states (Does not effect (model)).
Also all SM can take Chaplains and Librarians with Jump Packs, it's on their datasheets. The note on the BA list is for units which do not have a Jump Pack option listed on their Datasheet.
I threw a 1999 point DC army in the correct area, 60 DC w/ Jump Packs, plus Lemartes and SP w/ JP...

I like the fact that powers are somewhat simplified and unique. Blood Angels came away pretty well with them as well I have to admit. I expect that when they release actual full rulebooks/codexes for the individual armies that we may see some slightly expanded psychic charts and relic lists return. We shall see.

Yea, agreed on the aura/effect. That's how I interpreted it here.
Sounds like a fun list. ALL the death company. You should throw Astorath in there for good measure too, for gits and shiggles.

Hey guys, couple of Blood Angel questions. I haven't played them since 3rd, and just started buying a Battle Company. Now that I am buying everything I am having a bear of a time trying to figure out how I want to kit everything out. Looking for suggestions for the six Tactical Squads, two Assault Squads and two Devastator Squads. I will only have four Rhinos and a Razorback for transports. The only thing is that I don't plan on using any grav weapons. Just don't really like the way they look, and will be using Missile Launchers over Lascanons for infantry.

1. Put Jump Backs on all the Tacticals.
2. Give all Tacticals CCW's and pistols, or heck two CCW's, paint Black, everything else you can paint red.
3. This is the hard one, refer to your two Assault Squads as Veteran Assault Squads, they are now elites, paint their helmets gold. Your Tactical Squads are now known as Death Company
4. Model up some Twin Heavy Flamer turrets and some Heavy Flamer Sponsons, put these on three of those Rhino's, now call them Baal Predators.
5. Model up an Twin Assault Cannon, put it on last Rhino, put Twin Assault Cannon on other Razorback.
6. Fit your Devs how you want, 4 Heavy Flamers and dude for one squad, 4 Missile Launchers and a dude for the other squad, paint their helmets blue. Put these guys in your twoRazorbacks. Oh you had 10 man Dev squads? Take remaining 10 and put Jump Packs on them, Paint them Black...
7. Lemartes, SP, Astrorath, Chaplain w/ Backpack, Captain w/ Backpack, Meph, Dante, Tycho, Sanguitor, get your pick, Lemartes for sure though, afterall you now have 50 DC..
Enjoy the Red Thirst, succumb to the black rage, Charge whenever possible, take on all comers, save Baal, and spill Khorne blood...
Just my opinion, but folks say my BA armies are "an indication of something not quite right in the head" whatever that means...

Hahahaha, very entertaining post. I am quite fixed on making a generic company though. Was going to do another Chapter, but got a great deal on a lot of Blood Angels.
I have wanted to do a full company for a while, so sadly I will be sticking to it... even though BA have some real cool goodies.

I'm actually slowly working on a full battle company here, but will likely stop at a Demi-Company depending on funds. Kudos for going whole hog! What company are you building? I'm using the 5th Battle Company for my Angels here.
For starters, I like having each tactical squad have a purpose. For instance, Tactical squad 1 is good at anti-infantry, so Heavy Flamer, Flamer, combi-flamer on the sergeant, etc. If you want to give him a melee weapon too, I suggest a single lightning claw, or possibly a power axe/power fist if you want to spend the points.
Tactical squad 2 can then be kitted out for anti-armor, so multimelta, meltagun, and combi-melta on the sergeant with perhaps Meltabombs as well, or again give the sgt. a hand weapon of some type. Again I like lightning claw as the re-roll to wound is excellent.
Tactical squad 3 can then be kind of a mixed bag unit, or, perhaps missile launcher, plasma gun, combi-plasma. Focus it on being heavy infantry/tough save hunters.
Tactical squad 4 again can be a mix bag or run whatever you think is interesting, or focus it on more anti infantry or anti armor.
Tactical squads 5 and 6 can mirror tactical squad 4, whatever you think you'll get the most mileage out of.
Assault squads I've always found to be good in a fast moving anti-armor role but with two of them you can have one with a pair of meltaguns (kinda what we're know for as Blood Angels) and one with a pair of flamers. Sergeants can be kitted at whatever you think is cool. I'm personally going with a power sword and fusion pistol on mine, but really you can't go wrong with a pistol of some kind and a weapon. Powerfist might be worth it, though I'd almost consider a pair of lightning claws as well as an interesting option on one of them. With pistols shooting even in melee, it's worth it in my mind to keep as many pistols in the unit as possible. I'll also suggest going with at least one Evicerator in the unit to help swing on hard targets with high toughness and carve out chunks of wounds if you can hit with it. It's worth losing a ranged/pistol shot to get one in there in my opinion.
Devastator squads, I would strongly suggest one of them being a multimelta squad, and consider a drop pod for them. Dropping 4 multimelta shots into an armored target would be horrifying for most things. The other can be a quad missile launcher set up without any issue. Bear in mind also you can mix and match a squad without issue now too, since all models can target whatever they want in the new edition, you can put lascannons or multimeltas into big targets, and heavy bolters or frag missiles into larger squads of models, all shooting from the same squad. So you really can't go wrong if you want to mix and match, or go all with one type of heavy weapon.
Razorbacks I would consider running either twin lascannon, or twin assault cannon.
Just my suggestions on that. Best of luck and take it easy.

I was actually thinking of replicating the 2nd Company, and following what it is I can pick up from wikis and fluff. Or, go 3rd Company and have much more free reign. Automatically Appended Next Post: This is mainly just a personal project for me and want to have fun with it, not worried about being uber competitive. My Guard are going to be my main army.
I have really been leaning towards doing the 2nd since I will have everything minus one Dreadnought (and possibly a few transports), and I like having a template to work towards... even though not all of the load outs listed are the best possible combinations.

2nd Company huh? Nice! They were my second choice after the 5th. 3rd Company is also a good choice. Can't go wrong with either, and that free-reign is why I went with the 5th myself. I can build it how I want without any restriction.
You have Guard too? What regiment? I have a fairly sizable Vostroyan Firstborn army here. Love them to death in the lore and am looking forward to playing them in 8th edition as well.
So long as you enjoy it and the process, that's what matters. If you want any help, or need anything regarding builds, or even painting advice, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm not the best painter in the world but I'm pretty decent at making Blood Angels look presentable I think.
Please do up a painting blog for us to follow along with in the P&M Blogs section. I'd love to follow along with your progress.

Did GW explain why they got rid of the generic Chapter Master? Really seems like a kick in the gut to those who wanted to run their own SM Chapters or Successor Chapters.

I run a Tallarn army, been a bear to collect it so far. And still short a few Roughriders. Still wish I hadn't sold off my Steel Legion army, but the Tallarn have been a great buy, and my army ported over to 8th perfectly at 2,000 points. Always liked the Vostroyan though, some of the coolest Guard models they made!
Hey, your Blood Angels look great! I hope mine will look as good as yours! I will make sure to keep in touch, I wanted kind of a dumb challenge for this army, so everything is going to be the older metal models (and the old metals were some of the first models I ever owned, so there's a bit of nostalgia there). Have about 40 on the way, and working on finalizing a trade for 50 more. The only issue is that nothing is really coming with arms, backpacks or weapons. Thank goodness for eBay bits sellers haha.

Your costings for the Sang Guard Unit is off. I make it 233pts (5x SG, 3xPistols, 2xAngelus Boltguns, 3x Encarmine Axe, 2x Encarmine Sword, 5x Death Mask)
Also, there is no reason to take Angelus Boltguns over Plasma Pistols for points saving. Plasma Pistols are actually 2pts cheaper than Angelus Boltguns.
Unless you really want 2x S4 shots, Plasma Pistols are the no-brainer option for SG.
Probably running mine with 5x Plasma Pistols, 4x Swords, 1x Fist and with a Sang Priest

That's what I meant when I said point savings, I meant the plasma pistol being 2 points cheaper.
And yea I realized I derped on the point cost, I had forgotten to add the 5th model's points in. Math and insomnia don't mix, kids. Still, 233 points isn't a bad deal, in my opinion.
I'd thought about running all pistols, but I figured a couple of Angelus Boltguns wouldn't hurt for the extra shots, nice blend of high strength shots and extra lower strength rounds going into the target. I do agree though, Plasma Pistols are a no-brainer option for SG. I feel like the Angelus Boltguns should have been about 4 or 5 points cheaper, generally speaking.
Also, Gunner, good luck on that man! I own a metal army, seeing a classic metal blood angels force would be a sight to behold! Keep us posted if you would?

Loving the new Blood Angels rules, is anybody else planning Sigmarine Angel wings on the Interceptor Primaris Marines?
Also, Devestator Squads with 4 Heavy Flamers is now a thing! Shame a Drop Pod doesn't help them, but still pretty powerful if somebody is silly enough to get that close

Am I the only one concerned about lack of melta/plasma gun from the assault marines? Perhaps later on a chapter specific codex they will fix it.
Do you guys think I need to re-paint my veteran sergeant helmets from the tac & assault marine squads or will they still be legit to include into a squad? Atleast assault squad veteran sergeant can be fielded as vanguard veteran..
