Notice the list of the "many faces of Eldar"... and #3 is redacted... with a picture up above it.....

40k skaven new eldar faction for 8th ed confirmed!

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I'd say it's possible. The forces listed in the war zone ultramar page lists regiments of pestigors and thousand sons have tzangors. If there can be a beastmen equivalent in the lore and on the tabletop again I don't see why we couldn't have a skaven equivalent.

Someone in my local area said the symbol next to it is a Slaanesh symbol... (I have no idea).

In AoS... the Horned Rat "replaced" Slaanesh.

My guess would be that they're Chaos/Crone World Eldar, hence why they are redacted.

Although the horned rat/Slaanesh/AoS theory is interesting (and worrying). If the Eldar gave birth to the horned rat that would be a shark jump too far for me in all honestly.

could this be chaos eldar? something we've long known existed but never seen? I could see it,. if GW really wanted to pull the stops out with making chaos seem THE enemy, what better way to do it, then through adding new factions and new stuff, examples of how chaos has corrupted EVERYTHING in the galaxy

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Going to make the guess right here and now - This faction will be commanded by Fulgrim.

Fulgrim is mentioned in Gathering Storm, or should I say, a serpant like creature of immense power...

That would also be my guess.
Although in Gathering Storm, they go to crone worlds but don't encounter any Eldars still living there.

I thought Slaanesh devoured all the unguarded Eldar souls anyway... so why oh why would they ever fight for Chaos? That goes against the (currently) established lore. Plus one-upping Dark Eldar is just dumb writing imo.

your mind

Spaven would be cool.
And may be the way that GW phases Slaanesh out?
Maybe the Yeenari (Eldrad?) plan comes to fruition.
Slaanesh is ended, a stalemate is achieved with the remaining gods (to face tyranids! and orkses!) so that the emperor can get off the throne, an acolyte lights some incense in there, the (warp retaining) door closes behind them and a new millennium dawns.
Or more likely nothing is achieved but the introduction of a new model range.
Which would be cool.

What this probably eludes to is the Slaanesh "cultist" equivalent, TS have Tzzangors, DG has something that slips my mind right now, Slaanesh and Khorne will probably get the same treatment. Skaven would work well for Slaanesh fast and animistic in desires.

Looking at it more closely, that looks a bit more... bovine than ratty, to me (it's the snout). And then if that thing swooping round beneath the face is an extremely fancy horn rather than a tentacle (equally possible), could it be something to do with a Keeper of Secrets? Slaangors? Generic Chaos Spawn, even?

References to Chaos Eldar predate the Dark Eldar. They're mentioned in the 2nd ed Eldar codex (and perhaps earlier than that?). They inhabit the Crone worlds which are obviously located within the Eye of Terror.

Humans have their version of Beastmen so maybe they are Eldar ones?

The image of a "cow" army popped into my head when you said, "bovine". And now I can't even.

To be honest Slaanesh would probably make an exception with his pride to have the race that he constantly devours praise her constantly as worshippers.

Either way, it would be nice have some "Chaos Infested" Xenos races.

It's happening. So have we confirmed that the two mythos overlap?

For what it's worth, the Slaanesh-worshipping Aeldari we met in Jain Zar were physically indistinguishable from regular ones. 10,000 years is a long time to live in the Eye, on the other hand.

This thread is becoming an udder trainwreck.
I do have a beef with this theory of space skaven, as there are already space skaven; they are called Hrud.
They may look like walking decaying trash piles now, but a long time ago they looked like rodents.

Also, Rodents do not follow the Slaanesh aesthetic. If you look at Slaanesh models, they tend to have a more crustacean or occasionally bovine themed aesthetic, at least in their early incarnations.

Case in point (Possibly NSFW. Old, non sanitized GW stuff incoming)
Spoiler:

Art Work by Adrian Smith, who worked on other WH40k bits of art, iirc

Apparently this is an old KoS model. No idea when it dates from, probably the 90s. Supposedly its based on designs from Blanche

This one is from 3rd-4th ed, iirc.

So if the unidentified creature is a cow demon monster, its likely that GW is once again going to borrow concepts from the past and revamp the slaanesh line once again, in all of their ungulate glory.

I'm convinced that 40k is just the world that the Flesh Eater Ghouls from AoS imagine they are living.

The Emperor is actually Nagash.

The Space Marine Chapters are the various courts of the Ghouls.

Chaos is still Chaos. Orkz are Orkz. Stormcast are CSM. Etc...

You know I'm right.

I worship that daily

Honestly though im not seeing rat in that picture.

also since GW tends to reuse a lot of assets

is it possible that picture exists somewhere?

It does look like something from Blanche. It does have that good old 90s GW look about it.
Is he still working for GW? Apparently there's a bunch of his conversions in white dwarf, but I don't think I've seen any new pieces from him in a while.

I remember during the End Times Thanquol book a passage that some people thought was akin to the Skaven and Eldar having a sketchy cell phone conversation.

I don't know why that picture would randomly make you think Skaven of all things.
