So im looking at the dataslate for the maulerfiend and am i the only person who thinks this is a no brainer upgrade. 2 s8 shots vs 2ds s6 cc attacks. They both hit on a 4 so 50% hit rate so thats 1 s8 hit ve 3/4 S6 hits on average rolls.
So what do you think is the best choice

Maybe? The magma cutter has a 6" range so if you're close enough to use it you're probably in combat anyway, the lasher tendrils can be used on both players' turns instead of just yours, and S8 isn't a huge upgrade over S6. I'd go with the lasher tendrils for a more general-purpose unit, and the magma cutters on a dedicated really-big-thing hunter. Slicing up Land Raiders or fistfighting Wraithlords, take the magma cutters, but if you don't know what you're fighting the lasher tendrils are useful against a wider variety of things.

Magmacutters need to be bought in a pair, making them 32 pts to the lasher's 12. Not worth it, IMO.

I uh don't think that is RAI. You're replacing both magma cutters with lashers, so you'd pay for two just like you'd pay for two cutters.

Hm, you might be right. the wording on the lashers is confusing.
But then 2d6 extra attacks is WAY better than the two meltashots (and theyre still cheaper).
You replace BOTH magmacutters with lasher tendrils. Does that mean you replace them with 2 lasher tendrils, or just one (its just one weapon, like the fists)

The Cutters have the advantage of being used almost out of turn though as they're like Pistols. Tendrils are definitely a good choice but I want to be sure that I can bring down the bid stuff.

I would leave the mauler fiend at home he costs over 150 points at least for a model that will have a hard time doing anything useful.

Well that's simply untrue. Excellent movement, good durability, and hits large targets pretty darn well, and it hits Monstrous Creatures better than ever.

10" is not excellent movement, its sub-par to most vehicles. On a unit that has 6" at most with its ranged attacks. If you take the Magma Cutters upgrade your enemy will throw a single chaff unit at him and keep him tied up for most if not all game. If you take the Lasher Tendril upgrade your paying 172 points for a gakky version of a Dakka Pred that gets more shots, has a longer range, is almost as durable, cheaper points cost, better movement, and has a 3+ BS rather then a 4+.
