Subject: How are you going to paint your Dark Imperium models?

Contagious Dreadnought of Nurgle

Hey guys, now that we're getting closer to the release of 8th edition I'm getting pretty excited to work on the new models, particularly the Death Guard.
I'm going to paint the Primaris marines as Dark Angels, and I'm going to prime both them and the Death Guard with Army Painter's Angel Green spray. Then I'm going to work up to Vallejo MC Livery Green for the Death Guard and wash it brown. I plan to paint all of their flesh VGC Dead Flesh and all of the innards with Army Painter Abomination Gore with a purple wash over all of it. Finally, I'm going to liberally add Vallejo effects paints like Dry Rust, Vomit and Fresh blood.
Anyone else have any plans about how you're going to paint the Dark Imperium set? Are you going to paint your Death Guard in the GW style or are you going to try your own thing? It appears that GW is releasing a new color to base coat the Death Guard with, anyone plan on using that?

Primaris Marines in the style of Blood Ravens; not exactly, but with a similar scheme.

Assuming that I do buy it, I'm sorely tempted to do the marines as Howling Griffins.

If I find the way to justify the purchase (which is getting increasingly harder as I run out of room to store stuff) the Primaris Marines are going to be painted up in my own homebrew chapter's colors (which is not that far off from the Minotaur's scheme)
As for the Death Guard....not quite sure yet. I don't know if I want the death guards since I already have 49 deathguard models

Space is tight for me as well, but I can't help it. I'm going to buy all of the Primaris models that come out, probably.

But 49 is the square of 7. 7 x 7. Papa Nurgle would be displeased if I go above. DISPLEASED.

How lucky you are to be blessed by father Nurgle! Now, I'm just going to stand over here...
I really am pumped to paint the Death Guard, though. I want to make them as disgusting as I possibly can - I'm talking a nice yellow/white pimple color for the boils, slimy entrails slick with blood etc. It's going to be fun. So if you have any tips for really gross Nurgle stuff let me know!

Do it. Dooooo it. After doing some poorly quartered marines, if I ever did loyalists I'd do it again, for sure.

Try using a purple wash under a green wash. I used it on some plaguebearers and achieved a decent "diseased, bruised" look.
Apologies for the bad image quality. Those were done with a purple ink wash followed immediately by a green one, then drybrushed with a color I have called "Santa Flesh".

I reviving my old Pus Legion from way back in the day (when my username was Nurgleboy77).
It will be a sickening yellow color with black iron trim and purple tentacles with green and purple glows on lenses. Colorful but Nurgly.

I'm trading my Deathguard for more Primaris Marines, when I get my box.
One squad of Intercessors will be added to my Blood Angels 4th Company. The rest will be a homebrew chapter I'm working on - I want to do purple and gold but I fear that would look too much like Emperor's Children. But simultaneously, if Cawl ever starts using traitor gene-stock I want mine to be modern Emperor's Children. So purple and gold it is.

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

I was going to do the Primaris marines as Dark Angels, but i'm also keeping the DG. And doing two small armies in green doesn't appeal to me. So I'll be doing the Primaris as Ultramarines, maybe Blood Angels or some other chapter so long as they aren't green. I'll probably paint the Deathguard however Duncan decides to do them, but with my own spin on it. Definitely going to use the new green paint though. I was debating on doing the skin in a grey color, like dead rotting flesh...instead of the warmer tones GW used.

I'm really not sure what I want to do for the primaris (and am taking suggestions), but so far am thinking about Crimson Fists, Blood Ravens, Soul Drinkers or something close to it, or a quartered scheme perhaps..
For the Nurgle troops however, I plan on painting them a white/off white-grey armor that appears to be corroded and peeling from all edges inward, with a dark metal ceramite underneath, or I might try to mimic white Marble for the armor, maybe with a Cleaved style oozing from a few places on either scheme. Either way, I plan to paint that lead pox walker's lab coat dirty for sakes

I'm really interested in Ultramar as a warzone, so even though it's slightly bland, I'll probably just paint them up as shown on the box.
Though, to be honest, I'll probably leave the Primaris alone for the most part. I might pick up a Repulsor but I'll really only field them alongside regular Space Marines, which I won't be building up for a while.

Those both look really good. Definitely gives me some ideas. VGC Livery Green is a pretty sickly yellow/green color, and I was definitely planning on a nice purple wash for the skin, though now I'll have to try combining it with a green one. I actually haven't painted traditional metalics yet so I'm planning on doing all of the steel and gold bits pretty conventionally, with some rust of course.

Hoping I have enough money to purchase when it releases! Going to paint my deathguard models like the rest of my death Guard, a more layered up to cleaner look on armor plates with plenty of gross rotting flesh and TONS of "Nurgle's rot" paint effect applied very liberally!
Not sure how I'm going to paint my primaris or if I'm even going to keep them and not trade em off for more death Guard(though I already have 6500 fieldable points of DG), but if I do paint them up and keep em I may do my custom color scheme that I've been doing up for my heavily converted counts as grey knights army the "Sons of Opet" and paint em up in a layered up very light real color scheme with royal purple shoulder pads and copper trim/accents. I fee it would look good on them and also allow me to use the grey knights stuff I have as more of an allied in force than a primary alongside my primaris force.

I will be using the primaris as practice minis and try different color schemes and techniques. Not in the mood to start another army. But the death guard I will paint in the standard gw color scheme to add to my chaos army.
