I have 2 to build and trying to decide if this a good platform for thr starcannon in addition to pulse laser. Obviously a crystal targeting matrix will be added to them. Also thinking brightlance.

I went with a starcannon as I've loved them since 3rd edition, but also because they are good this edition! str 6, ap -3, 3d is pretty frigging awesome. A bit hefty in the price department, but well worth it imo.

+1 for Starcannon + CTM I think. I would probably go for a shuricannon on the chin too for moooaaar dakka!

The falcon with a starcannon and shuri cannon is probably the only option i would take. The cost of the vehicle is a little to high for what it does but since you can split fire it can chip away at a few different targets.
I don't think they are going to be high priority targets so they might perform alright in a larger game.

I haven’t crunched the numbers yet to pick something, probably a good spot to shore up weaknesses in the rest of your list though.

But the true answer is magnets.

I have crunched the numbers. Also has Pulse Laser and Prism Cannon.
Green Highlighted ones are best result in each category.

Note that this is assuming 100% accuracy to simplify, which would make make the Shuriken Cannon seem a little worse.
D6 hits or wounds were represented as 3.5. D3 hits or wounds are represented as 2

Basic summary is that scatter lasers are good for poor quality infantry and then garbage.
Starcannons are good for heavy infantry and do okay against vehicles. They consistently outperform either missile launcher type against everything bar GEQ
Brightlances are significantly better against vehicles.
Pulse lasers are better than brightlances all the time. Two shots matter.
Double starcannon/ pulse laser and starcannon outperform prism cannons against all targets. Fire Prisms, whilst the budget option, are heavily outgunned

Thanks for the numbers.

If you are taking a CTM for the pulse laser, the fact that the shuriken cannons are assault doesn’t mater.

There is also a question of points vs. power level. If playing with PLs, the fact that the starcannon is 30 points doesn’t make difference. You are paying for it anyway. And seeing how well it works vs. a wide array of targets, I’d probably stick with that.

Some choice might also be meta dependent. If you see a lot of rhino hulls on the table (and razorspam looks like it it still alive and well) pulse laser/brightlance might be the go-to choice. If horde armies really are on the rise again, the scatter laser is economical and effective.

The ML looks nice, but if you are willing to spend 25, just pony up 5 more and go for the starcannon.

Which reminds me, I need to clean and magnetize some new guns for my Falcons.
