They represent the "Everyman" Regiment that give you maximum freedom to make Your Dudes whatever you want then to be. Part of that is having a relatively generic sci-fi look.
Every regiment is supposed to be unique, there isn't supposed to be any standardisation. The only reason you see Cadians (or Cadians with a different name) everywhere is because Cadians is the only thing GW sells besides Catachans (and who wants those?) and a few old metal miniatures.
I do think GW is going to do something about it. They are probably (hopefully) going to release new infantry kits and make it so that those kits represent the new standard equipment for all Astra Militarum forces (except iconic groups like the Vostroyans or DKoK). That way GW solves the fact that almost all IG forces currently (in tabletop and fluff) are Cadians, rids itself from the responsibility to have multiple model ranges for the IG and removes the fluff excuse for IG players using third-party miniatures.
I don't really mind what GW is going to do, as long as they get rid of the current Cadian and Catachan miniatures and replace them with something that at least tries to resemble normal Human body proportions.
yeah thats my read too. heck make the new guard kit look bad ass eneugh and I think people'll be happy with it

Oh you know, just doing Guard stuff. Dieing in large numbers, holding the line, shining flashlights at stuff. There's probably even a few being shot by Commissars as we speak! I'm glad I'm just a few models away from finishing my Tallarn, they are getting real hard to find (besides the basic squad box that's Webstore Exclusive).

This is literally not true. I mean think you want about the out-of-universe business motivations, but the fluff is explicit about Cadian regiments being the "model regiment" that other Guard units in the galaxy follow, just like how Ultramarines are the cast that most of the other chapters base themselves off of. "Standardisation" implies that they're being forced to do this. In reality, other regiments choose to model themselves after Cadians because Cadians are the most famous Guardsmen in the galaxy.

I'm sure they could do the same fluffy crap of raising.some of the auxilla.to shore up defences for the imperium. Its not a very clear piece of fluff but nowhere does it explicitly state Mordia has been destroyed.
Tzeentch seems to have won the overall campaign as it states the IoM etc could not raise enough reinforcements but it certainly dosent state the planet of Mordia is gone or destroyed.

Poor Mordia. You know I once acquired a Mordian sergeant, and painted him up in Imperial Japanese colours from the Russo-Japanese war. It really suited them. I guess GW will stop selling their models altogether soon?
I think they will make a future one type plastic kit for the guard. I hope it's the Vostroyians. They are probably the second coolest looking regiment after the DKoK.

A moment of silence for our Mordian players. If Mordian Glory reads this, well I feel for you bro. I'm sure there is still millions if not billions of Mordian/Cadians out there in the universe but it does seem to indicate GW will not be supporting the product line anymore which is a damn shame.

It will probably be something brand new, like how the Primaris are Numarines.
I bet that the fall of Mordia and Cadia is just the buildup to Roboute Guilleman deciding to completely reorganize the Imperial Guard into something else following the fall of some important recruitment worlds, just as the Imperial Army was reorganized into the Imperial Guard following the heresy.
It will probably be something that unifies the IG into a single force rather than different regiments. In lore the reason will probably be something like to lessen the impact of losing the homeworld of an entire regiment, as all of the training will be standardized.
The real reason will probably be because GW doesn't want to keep track with different IG kits, like they have been failing to do for the last 10 years.

GW offered all of these different regiments, but either never delivered on it or keep up with it. Which means that if you want to make something like, idk, praetorians, you have to rely on a 3rd party to get the look you want. I would understand it if they did go this path, and they might release something satisfactory, but I would be saddened by the loss of flavor, as that was a big part of the IG; that its a vast and varied organisation where each regiment represents their world and have a different way of fighting.

This is a problem that's pretty unique to the IG. No other faction in any game GW make is this open to customization. Great for us, but not so great for them. Requires a huge range to support, and third parties can muscle in on your turf. They're probably going to do something about that.

The problem with replacing regiments is that from what the index is showing, there doesn't seem to be that intention from GW to do so.

What if they focus the spotlight on the Scions more? I think they should do this anyway. If the marines are now getting hover tanks and the like, then I think the Scions could get conventional bikes and such.
My gut feeling though is that they'll make a new regiment in plastic and push that forward whilst quietly retiring the others whilst allowing people who have said regiments to carry on using them.
