Has anyone used this in 8th yet? The deffkannon seems a lot worse now. Same with the supa-rokkits, but the supa-gatler seems a little better. Costing 200 more points seems a tad ridiculous to me. Can it really tank enough firepower to cost an army? I can't see it killing nearly 1000 points, so tanking must be the idea.

Thoughts?

Well according to Reese from FLG its amazing. However I think he is wrong almost across the board so take that as you will.

As for the Stompa's tankiness? Believe it or not but it has LOST Durability versus everything EXCEPT Melta style weapons. Lascannon spam (which is fairly popular) can kill a stompa relatively quick. That teamed with its loss of Dakka means that this things is a walking waste of points. I am also highly disappointed with the fact that the Stompa doesn't have stomp.....wtf?

The slash profile of the Mega-Choppa is exactly the same as stomp, there would be little reason to add stomp as well.

Besides that I pretty much agree. Lascannon spam is not as common as SemperMortis makes it sound, but the stompa will still not be able to do 1000 points worth of damage before it goes down - and will struggle to do so even when it doesn't go down. The best shooting weapon on the stompa, the supa-gatler, only kills two MEQ per turn, and all other weapons are worse due to BS 5+. The only way to actually do a lot of damage is through assault, but the stompa loses 1 BS with every 10 wounds lost, so a half-dead stompa won't be able to do anything anymore.

It's pretty much a super-expensive battlewagon with twice as many wounds, which brings me to the conclusion that you're better off just fielding 5 battlewagons instead of 1 stompa.

The custom stompa is slightly better, but also about 200 points more expensive while offering only slightly better shooting than the regular stompa. Still not worth the points.

They look completely terrible. Bafflingly so. The Stompa needs to have something like Titanic Feet because if you build a Kustom Stompa and give it all ranged weapons instead of a Mega Choppa you lose basically all ability in CC.

This unit really is a head-scratcher.

In my opinion it's probably the worst unit in the codex, like it was in the previous edition.

It costs as much as half the list but its shooting isn't impressive at all and in close combat is too easy to avoid it. It will be killed before reaching combat every game.

The stompa could have been a decent bullet magnet but since it costs 1000ish points it's actually terrible for that purpose. It should be priced around 500-550 points full kitted.

Can be ok in fun games - like 30-40% overpriced though.

Thanks for the replies, even though they're sad to hear. I think I miss templates the most out of all the changes.

A single Las Predator hits 3 times, wounds 2 times and generally inflicts 7 damage. So 7/40 in a single turn to a unit that costs about 1/5th as much. Another fun way to put that is you can almost take 5 Las Preds for the cost of a single Stompa, and shooting wise the Stompa loses horribly, and CC wise? irrelevant because against that level of Dakka the Stompa wouldn't survive past turn 2

It is roughly twice as expensive per T8 wound as a battlewagon or gorkanaught. Five battlewagons will be a lot more survivable than a single stompa, and two gorkanaughts are more survivable and significantly less expensive. The stompa is simply not very good.

Very survivable, but I think the Index iteration of the Stompa is lacking in the firepower you'd expect from a ~1000 point unit...

I guess you missed the part where I said "About" 1/5th would be 8wounds so I said ABOUT.

regardless, If you take a Stompa to the game and your opponent takes 5 Las Preds for about the same cost you will be losing, not the Marine Player. Why? because in 2 rounds of shooting those 5 las preds have killed your Stompa and popped a few other vehicles for good measure and they would then be free to target whatever they wished, add to that the fact that Ork abilities to stop vehicles this edition is....lacking. Against a Horde army (No Stompa) yeah those preds would be a HUGE waste of points but I am talking about a game where that is your target to kill. Stompa's bring nothing to the table worth mentioning.
