I'm currently playing some Kroot Hounds in my list and have been proxying them as I don't like the models much and think they're a bit overpriced in terms of real-world cost. There are some other models that I like better from GW, such as Chaos Warhounds, but I don't feel they'd mesh well with Tau and would also look awkward on 25mm bases.

What I'd like to do is convert something to look like a robotic dog / drone dog since that would fit my theme and be a nice little project for my army. Unfortunately I really have no idea where to start with that. I'm also hoping for at least 50% GW bits since I do play in some GW events so that does complicate things a bit.

So far the best idea I have is to take the disc portion of a drone but I'm not sure what would make a decent melee weapon to go underneath them. I'd prefer it be obvious since I don't want any confusion, my list also uses quite a few Gun Drones.

Anyone have any ideas to help me out? Happy to post a test model once I have a solid idea in place. :]

what I would suggest is:
1) Use the warhounds as they are a pretty nice model but don't use the horns, instead greenstuff the socket or something.
2) Then on the model replace the heads with those from the tzaangors.
3) Then add various Tau/Kroot/Guard parts to the legs and back body to make it seem cybernetic.

This will give you the more full body of the wrhounds with beeks to make them kroot-like. The cybernatics then ties it in with the rest of the army.

I'm actually planning on using they AoS Gryphhounds with a bit of converting.
I was going to use kroot heads with a bit of greenstuff to extend the beaks but Sunbane's sujestion of Tzaangor heads is interesting, will have to see if the local Tzeenchian has any spare

It doesn't seem like they'd fit on a 25mm though. Am I wrong?

Having looked at models I've done in the past you could just squeeze them on 25mm at a stretch and maybe a nice rock or two on the base. You could easily fit them on the old cavalry/ old bike/ new oval though. If you are worried about base size legitimacy use 32mm as they will fit on those and just point out to whoever is querying you the fact that space marines went from 25mm to 32mm. Really there are no set in stone rules for bases, terminators used to use 25mm bases and I have a converted captain and converted techmarine that use 40mm bases.

At the end of the day do what feels right but for bases I would just rule of cool it.

Better yet, avoid any players who nitpick base size. They're not really in it for the fun of the game. They just want to win. The difference between 25mm and 32mm isn't exactly earth shattering. Especially for an assault unit.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
