Has anyone tried them out? I loved using them last edition with either meltas and apothecary and drop pod or with a rhino and plasma. Now I have my head scratching since you can take 2-5 of them. I have tried a couple games with 3 man Vets with Plasma Guns in a Razorback w/Twin Assault. Usually taking 2-4 of these units. They generally hit hard but cannot take much back (obviously). Another option I haven't tried out was "bolter spam" on them. Put them on bikes with Storm Bolters and let them go. The amount of shots they can pour out is awesome.

So what is best for them?

Small squads with special weapons?

Bikes for dakka?

Or CC? (Never tried this but want to)

As with most things they will need to be backed by the rest of the army but that should go without saying

Thanks!

Well that makes things much easier! Was never a fan of them on bikes

The way I look at the different Vets is based on what they are doing. If you want the superior firepower of the special issue bolter and maybe some heavy weapons you take Sternguard.

If you want fast hitting assault and access to a relic blade you take Vanguards.

If you want some vets to take with a character, or to mix the shooting and CCW, or to fill up a weird amount of space in a transport you go with Company.

Company Vet Bikers are great for escorting a character or building a hard hitting and durable unit (storm shields and T5).

They all cost the same as Veterans but they bring different tools to the field.

They can still be taken as Bikes, even if they aren't in the new Codex the FAQ said you can use Index units that weren't included still. So all the characters with Jump packs and bikes that didn't come over are still available.

I run a squad of them with Jump Packs (Blood Angels allow them the option) and have them kitted with chain swords and Storm Shields on two, with the Sergeant sporting a Power Fist & Storm Shield for high strength swings.

I'll be adding another two to the unit to flesh them out to full strength, 5 models strong. Not sure what to arm them with yet, but leaning toward Storm Shields on both remaining models, and possibly a Meltagun on at least one, or maybe both. If I only go with one meltagun I'll just put a chain sword on the other for 3 ablative wounds with 3+/3++ saves.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.
