Subject: Converting new Primaris Space Marine Characters?

So since the Primaris Apothecary and Primaris Chaplain have been revealed and almost certainly to be comically overpriced like the librarian and captain, has anyone tried to go the cheap way and convert either one of the lieutenants from Dark Imperium (or even a generic snap-fit Primaris marine) into these guys? I think they should be easier than the Librarian since the robe isn't manditory on chaplains, but his custom bolt pistol might be an issue. As for the Apothecary, would the backpack of a normal marine fit on the primaris body?
I was also thinking of using a Reiver to make the chaplain, as it looks like his greaves are thinner than that of the standard MK-X Armor.

I believe people are saying the Apothecary comes with some extra bits-- it sounds like enough that you could get the alternate parts from someone who has the model.
...if anyone's willing to pay that much.
I definitely wouldn't have a problem with a riever with a little ornamentation and a proper religion stick as a chaplain.

I actually have a few extra apothecary bits from another conversion project. The main problem is the backpack, which is pretty distinctive and I doubt the primaris guy would come with two.

It looks like he comes with a spare servo arm thingy... look at sprue 23 vs. 24 in his preview.

Looks like he only has one extra servo arm.
However his backpack doesn't look that much different. Maybe I can scrounge up something from an AdMech player or a vehicle sprue.
the little vials might be hard to make though.

While some interesting stuff - it is not obvious which is what? Can you be more specific about which mini you are referring?
I am considering converting the sword lieutenant into a librarian, using one of the open hands from the intercessor guys. I would just use a greenstuff cape, or go without.
As far as the apothecary, I think the extra bits on a lieutenant would be fine - especially if you went with the all white paint scheme.
$35 usd for the single mini is absolutely insane. GW is doing awesome at recognizing 40k is a game, and engaging the community.
Next they need to lower their prices so they can increase their customer base - the game has an incredibly high perceived entry price - and this is a barrier to a lot of players.
You would think that the new CEO would understand the whole supply and demand price curve.
Their margins are incredible, they could make a lot more profit just by cutting prices and seeing volume go up.
(note; I am not talking about value here - so lets not derail the point - I think I get good value out of my 40k investment - its just hard to convince my friends to buy in when a single mini kit is $35).
(note2: I work in the field of manufacturing, distribution and international supply chains - I have read all their finances - and yes, they could be more profitable by lowering prices, but that is a different conversation).
Anyway - back to conversions....
I have ZERO intention of buying any of the new infantry kits - the prices are way out of control. Any new primaris units I use will be converted from minis in the dark imperium set. For example, I am thinking for the flying guys, of trying to convert the plasma cannons from leaman russ sponsons for their plasma guns.
Anyone else doing any primaris conversions?

We all know that the minis are hilariously overpriced, but as long as people are willing to pay for it, GW can continue charging these prices. Which is why I find the whole "don't like it, don't buy it" laughable, since as long as someone buys it, my opinion means jack squat. Due to the prices, GW only needs a small handful of people to buy those kits to justify their costs. And of course we have people who have more money than common sense.
But that aside, the Starter box sets are not that bad. I think, minus the rulebook, they come to around 4-5 CAD per model, which is an acceptable margin for miniatures. And hence why I wanna convert them rather than pay the silly prices. That and the Reaper-Chaplain reminds me too much of overwatch, hence between that and the price, the chaplain can go suck whichever genitalia he likes the least.

Even librarians have no need of a robe - that's a relatively new invention in the past 10 years or so. Before, they've made due with simple tabards or no robes. However you'd want some books, a psychic-hood and some horned skulls etc.

I still have bits left over from some empire flagallents (greatest conversion fodder for 40k imo) so books and scrolls won't be an issue. I also still have the article on how to carve out a psychic hood out of a spare SM shoulderpad, and it's not like anyone's hurting for those.
