As the title. From what reading I have done there are really 2 defining attributes to the Storm Wardens tactics.

Highly mechanized (they like to bombard the crap out of things to soften them up before they move in to finish the job/Make a lot of use of land raiders and such).

Use giant Power Swords/Storm Shields and like to get in close. Especially their command squads/vets.

With that being the case, which chapter tactics/characters/special snow flake units would you say best represents the Storm Wardens in 40k now? Would it be the Black Templar?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Possibly. The berserker-Scotsmen thing could also lend itself to Space Wolves

I think it is black templars.

The charge from the black templar represents their sword afinnaty.

If you want to bombard them from afar can just be represented with a lot of long ranged weapons.

You could also argue the white scars. Charging after falling back representing their profeciansy in mellee.

SW could also fit, but SW is faaar to spesific for the Storm Wardens if you wanne remain fluffy.

The chapters that would be really good with them would be salamanders. Say that their ranged units are good, and they proficiansy in mellee would represents their combat prowess instead of craftmanship.

If you make some storm wardens I would like to see the models. I think they are cool coming out of the RPG. Colourscheme and backround make sence.

I read something about Black Templars having no librarians. Is that true?

Yeah, it's true. They are a supersticius bunch and hate witches. (Never mind the astropats that fly them through space.)

But currently the black templars use the SM thing do they not? There is nothing in there that prevents you from taken librarians. If it does not work in future codexes just switch codex.

Although I doubt the emperors champion you convert and kit out will survive a codex jump. So don't go all in.

Im fairly certain you cannot have a librarian in a BT army at least i believe there is something near the chapter tactics section.

why not blood angels? they have access to a lot of cool choppy bits.

You are correct that Black Templars cannot take Librarians. I also think Angels would make a good choice.

I guess I like the idea of playing games much more than playing them...

Going by the "belief" section on here ..

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Storm_Wardens

.. I'd say Space Wolves are a good shout

And just to clarify on BT, they hate Witches not Psykers. Navigators and Astropaths are venerated due to their link to the Emperor. In terms of Librarians, the fluff is that at some point in there past they just lost them and haven't had any more come through the ranks since.

Different but kind of related questions.

Of all the space marine armors available I like the Mark 3 the best. I also think the extra armor bolted onto the front really fits the theme of the Storm Wardens wanting to be all frontal assault and getting into peoples faces with swords and all that. I think the shoulders look the coolest of all the different kinds of shoulders.

I also think the Mark III helmets are dumb as gak, but the Mark 4 helmets are the best looking helmets out there (which is why I think that style has been used for the primaris).

If anyone has these kits

1) Do mk 4 helmets fit well on mk 3 bodies?

2) Storm Wardens are supposed to have pretty close ties with the Adeptus Mechanicus so I figure getting the extra plating and the newest style of helmets wouldn't be out of the question. Is this a big fluffy no no or would it be fine to combine the parts that way? (Especially if I end up adding some Primaris the helmet styles would all match).

3) How hard is it to get a hold of a decent number of power swords? (I don't have any SM kits. This is all a kind of spit balling if I want to dive into the army before I make any purchases).

3.5) Alternatively, any good bits out there for Power Claymores? (I know there are a lot of styles of different power swords out there from different 3rd party companies).

4) Anyone know if anyone makes any bits that would make good Storm Warden Storm Shields?

Look at companies like kromlech and anvil industries for weapons, puppets war is another option.

Storm wardens are in effect just a codex chapter who favor mechanised assaults and have close ties to the mechanicum.... and favour giant 2-handed swords over combat knives ^_^

If i remember right ;-)

Just about any of the chapter tactics are worthyou of using... ido say salamanders (because of their ties to the mechanicum and forging a lot of their own equipment personally making their stuff a bit better than normal), or iron hands (to make vehicles a bit better)

Black templars are a good shout if you want a more foot-based army for them fluff wise.

For their shields... if you don't mind a bit of filing down details, the warriors of chaos shields from fantasy/aos make great looking ones, and with a bit of conversion you can use heir cloaks as well ;-)

And, much as it might be a bit of work....

Do you know anyone who collects stormcast from aos?

Their greatswords/glaives make for awesome double handed swords with some work.... or just grey knight force swords ;-)

So, trying to figure out what I want to try to build I put together this list. All feedback welcome. Any named characters I will be kitbashing to make my own versions to make Storm Warden characters. Il be doing the same thing for pretty much all the models.

HQs

Chaplain Grimaldus
High Marshal Helbrecht
Emperors Champion (Top Tempest Blade)

Troops

Crusader Squad x4
-Initiates x2
-Initiate w/ Lascannon
-Initiate w/ Plasma
-Sword Brother w/ Power Sword CombiPlasma

1 unit will replace the Lascannon with a Heavy Bolter (because points)

Elites

Company Champion (Tempest Blade)
w/MC Power Sword and the Shield Eternal
Contemptor Dread w/ Multi Melta
Vanguard Vet Squad x2 w/ Jump Packs
-Vet Sgt w/ Relic Blade & Plasma Pistol
-Vet w/ Power Sword & Storm Shield x3
-Vet w/ Power Sword and Plasma Pistol

Heavy Support

Land Raider Crusader
x2 w/Multi Melta

So I figure 2 crusaders join helbecht and a champ in a LR while 2 crusaders join the other champ and Gimaldus. The contemptor marches up the field blasting away and each unit of vanguard vets jump in to grab those sweet sweet melee bonuses from the charaters and support the champs where ever they would hit hardest.

Is this list decent at all?
