Actually, looking back on the Ghostkeel profile. I think this makes Skitarii the only units which can completely erase the -2 to hit field Ghostkeel can give themselves.

The Forge World Trait is -1 to hit when falling back, strategm can balance that and also deal with shooting at stuff with a further minus to hit like Ariborne targets. Ravenguard etc.

Assault wepaons are -1 to hit if you advance, again same thing applies.

Compensating for cover, for example?
cover goes on save and you can't go to +1 to hit

Eitherway for the 3 shown, Mars is clearly auto take. The other two are terrible. the minor amount of times its actually useful isn't worth taking the forgeworld. Our troops are hot garbage, the priests are hot garbage. Besides a spattering of good strats, this codex will most likely work out the same in index is. Cawl, Robots, Chicken Walkers, Crawlers, infiltraitors. everything else don't bother unless its to bubble wrap.

What I find Interesting is that it will benefit nicely my Ballistarii with Autocannons as I intend to take a big squad of 5. Hitting 8 Autocannon shots at 2+ (Broad spectrum is standard with Ironstriders)? Yes please. With that stratagem and Cawl aura my squadron nicknamed "Eraser" will turn into a thing to behold.

So... exactly what I was saying many pages about that everyone was getting all butthurt about. It's a lazy codex entry that provides no new tools or options, while further centralizing the options around a single build that the faction had already been very strongly forced into from the beginning.

I Cawled it.

Depends on what you're going for I think. The Ballistarii are going to be extremely mobile and can advance and still hit on a 3+ with the stratagem.

The Kastelans won't benefit from the stratagem, so it's a 4+ to hit. And they will be completely immobile if you're doing it right.

Mobile to what end? You don't want to be away from Cawl's aura. So you will be sitting there already not moving. Kastelans don't need the strategem, they just roll enough dice to make up for it with better AP and the ignores cover perk.

Also, strategems cost CP, Kastelans don't.

Again, it's going to depend on what you're going for. Kastelans can't move if you're using them right. if you need to be able to move around it might be better to take something that can move and shoot really effectively. I don't think Ballistarii fulfill the same role as a Kastelan or vice versa.

I'd wait on Fires of Cyraxus before saying you're not getting these things. Edit: well, except for the psykers. While I think psychic tech-priest would be kinda cool, most of their in-universe abilities are already psyker esque (floating, magnatism, shooting lightning from your hands) so psyker may be redundant if implants were properly done for the table top

Personally I'd rather our units get back some of their mobility rules and a point cost reduction rather than anything new. What we have can work, just needs major tweaking.

If the above rumor is correct, it looks like we will get some of the most needed changes (point reduction on skitarii and a second HQ choice). A few more strategic point reductions and we are in a fairly good place.

The biggest point reduction needs were Kataphrons and Sicarians. Sadly, those aren't likely to change. :(

Ruststalkers were underrated gems last edition, now they're slower, less durable and their limited mortal wounding gimmick makes them less reliable and useful than if they just did damage normally.

Pretty disappointing when I was running 15 when most other people weren't bothered to take them in the first place.

I love the models, but they lost all ap in the move to 8th. At least if they survived a round of combat in 7th they could cut through 2+ armour now they're just expensive vanguard that only hit in combat. You'd never take them instead of fulgurites now unless you REALLY loved the models that much lol.

...

Disappointed with metallicas faction focus. That's literally the worst army faction rule we've seen so far. Vanguard, rangers, destroyers and yet again corpuscarii are the only models that can slightly take advantage of it. We didn't need new ways of using vanguard, they're an expensive distraction, they just need to be improved' I don't mind the cost if they were just better.

Again I'd love to take kataphrons, but they're just not tough enough for the points when they're only hitting on 4s.

I haven't given up yet, it'll just be a shame if we're reduced to being a 1 or 2 trick pony. Interaction with the knights might be our saving grace at this point.
