I want to make some snow kind of bases for my Space Wolves, what would people suggest? I'm yet to paint a single model so just wanted suggestions first, thanks

I've been using woodland scenic snow flocking. You just use thinned PVA to glue it down.

I will say it works best when you layer it. One layer will let what's underneath show through to some extent (which I'm using to advantage for my 'melting snow' based DE). As you build up layers you can shape the snow into the shape you want.

It's a slow process if you're trying to build up a LOT of snow, though. I've only gone a couple scale inches deep (to the top of boots) in four layers or so. If you're thinking 'knee deep' you'll probably want to build up the depth through another means.

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!
My job here is done.

Outer Space, Apparently

I used to do a light snowfall/frostfall base for my Tau army. Use either the Armageddon Dust or Stirland Mud texture paints, shade with Agrax Earthshade, then follow up with an overbrush of Ulthuan Grey (basically a very heavy drybrush). You can then drybrush with a pure white like Wrack White, or leave it as it is to give the effect of light/old snowfall.

It should turn out a lot like this, although that is one of my older attempts at the effect.

Hope that helps

The cheap way, mix white paint, PVA, and baking soda or sodium bicarbonate (leveling agent for baking)

Make a paste how thick you want and paint it on.

There are plenty of videos on youtube using different methods and products, find the one that works for you.

Best of Luck!

If you want simple, fast and looks good, then GW's Valhallan Blizzard is your best bet. Been using it a lot recently and it's as easy as scooping it out and layering it across the base.

This was exactly what I was going to suggest as well but leave out the white paint as pva dries clearish and the soda is white already. If you want to add a bit of the sparkly snow look you can let that mess dry and then coat it with clear glitter paint. Itll just add the sparkle to the snow. Simple and cheap and best of all youll buy the ingredients once and have enough for a whole army or more.

Yeah I had some Baking Soda that yellowed with just the PVA, You dont need much like a drop or less. I sometimes sprinkle some baking soda on after I've applied it to make it look "fresh" and that hasn't yellowed and its been 2+ years. I dont know why the other stuff yellowed, maybe not enough PVA, I'm not sure.

I do the GW snow base directly on the base. Then I do a layer of pva (thin layer, using a paintbrush I don't care about), and use Woodland Scenic's snow flocking on it. I just cover the base in it and shake the excess off, then after it dries I use a VERY light brush to get rid of excess without removing anything. For drifts I just mix PVA with the snow flocking and shape it from there (I usually do this prior to the layer of flocking over the entire base).

All my orks are on glacier/snow bases. I use cork and talus covered in generic craft store white acrylic paint, dry brush dark blue, dry brush light blue, apply shiny blue interference powder, apply GW snow powder over PVA, seal.

Don't bother screwing around with massively overpriced gaming snow products, just buy the same model railroad snow that the gaming companies buy and re-brand with their own labels at an obscene markup.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I use woodland scenics.

Mix a paste with some water/PVA/flock
smear on base
swish base through tub of flock while the paste is still wet to get another fluffy layer on top.
