Guys, read the previews. It is still multi-level!

Not technically true. This Necromunda IS multi-level. Right out of the box.

This Necromunda COULD be multi-level*.

*Customary terrain not included. Additional levels sold separately.

*sigh*

Not what I meant at all.

It's a game with a ruleset that allows for high-rise games and tunnel-based games.

As I said, read the previews.

Yet it's what you said. In any case, I did read them (after my first post but before the one above with the explanatory pics). I still think it's a bad idea to change the core tabletop visuals of the game from obviously 3D multilevel to something that most will assume is a board game at first glance. I'd be saying the same thing if they changed space hulk to a vertical stairway game as the default (but kept corridors tiles as an extra optional accessory supported in the rules).

Is obviously a move to cater to the boardgame crow (A bigger crow that the wargame one). Us wargamers know what this is about so the "core box" is done this way to catter to the newer ones to Necromunda.
I think is a good move.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

No it's not. Stop being so intentionally obtuse. The game allows for both. It's what I meant, and it was obvious what I meant.

Now what you said, about the 'visual' of it being a 2D game, that's a very interesting point and one I hadn't considered. I think as the game expands that will be less of an issue, but you are correct that presentation counts for a lot of things and this is a very different presentation to Necromunda of old.

A good point. The board game with minis market was much, much smaller when that was last released. I don't agree with the move but I see your point.

And, despite my decidedly grognard views on the matter (and despite me personally not being interested much in the product), it might turn out better in the end as Galas pointed out the relative shift in the marketplace over the last few years.

Can I just say that the free painting app looks fantastic especially since it will cover everything that was in the paid painting guides they did before. Also the colour matching tool is very useful for colour-blind people like me. I frequently find myself looking at well painted minis and wondering what colour they used.
Apparently the goal is to eventually have a guide for every mini they sell.

They want to steer people to buy GW paints and not P3, Testors, Vallejo, etc. It's still a good idea for an app as long as GW makes the colors you're actually interested in.

I was sceptical about the painting app when I 1st heard of it but after watching the vid, I'm completely sold. Bonus that it's free! Now I just need a smart phone...

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
