Kind of silly, but my interpretation of the 8th edtion rules are that I can take a dedicated transport for every other unit I have. I even read the errata, and I think I have the right interpretation.

Example 1:
Intercessors I take as a troop choice cannot ride in Razorbacks. But I take a razorback anyway because it says "one DT per other slot selection".

Example 2:
I take a scout squad and a Rhino. I decide not to embark the scouts on setup and stick them on the field separate from the Rhino.

Extreme Example:
A Predator is a slot choice. I should be able to take a dedicated transport according the way the detachment rule is written.

Am I way off? I cannot find a thread that touches anywhere near this concept, but it seems like something that needs to get FAQ'ed.

Yes you're correct. A DT is in no way tied to any other unit.

Not to pick a bone with you specifically, but why do people always say "This 100% clear thing that I personally find weird needs an FAQ"? The rule is totally clear and unambiguous. "Dedicated Transports" are just a battlefield slot that has some weird restriction on how many you can take in a battleforged detachment, nothing more nothing less. For every other unit you take, regardless of whether or not it can use the transport, you can have one unit of the Dedicated Transport battlefield role.

As stupid as it sounds - you are correct.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

For a LOT of people, just because a rule is clear doesn't mean it "sounds" right. They remember other editions, and they think that some of those rules simply MUST still exist in some way or another. Plus, let's face it, it's not like we've never before had rules that only make sense when two sentences from 20 pages away from each other are read together. The person asking might think that they might have missed something obvious.

And that's perfectly fine. Ask away. But I (personally of course) find it grating when over and over people are saying "this needs to be FAQed" when it really doesn't, when there are so many other things that legitimately need to be fixed. This is even more important with this edition because it's a complete break from the previous ones.

BCB, I'll give you some free advice to make your life easier: unclench your cheeks.

Do that in ALL the threads you insist on being super-active in, and you'll feel much better.

It would be better stated as, "A DT is in no way tied to any specific unit." They are tied to another unit, in that another unit must be purchased in order to unlock the slot. But that is as far as it goes.

..."Dedicated Transports" don't exist anymore. Things exist in the Transport slot. They're not attached to a unit, units don't 'take transports'. You can deploy whatever you want in whatever transport you want, or not (within the restrictions on keywords and transport capacity).

Another slot doesn't have to have anything to do with a transport to unlock the Transport slot. Your Battalion detachment could unlock a Transport slot by taking a Stormraven if it wanted to, the Stormraven can't get into the Rhino and has nothing to do with the Rhino but the Transport slot is its own thing dependent only on the number of other slots in your army.

Funny, I see a "Dedicated Transport" Role listed for units, and I see Detachments with "Dedicated Transport" slots.

It's gone from a hidden Role with benefits and restrictions to being a unit option back to being a Role with benefits and restrictions, but the "Dedicated Transport" Role does exist in Role and Detachment slots.

What doesn't exist is a unit's ability to call on a specific unit to be their Dedicated Transport as in the last five Editions.

Actually it's a 'Dedicated Transports' slot.
