So I have a question regarding the Great Unclean One metal model. He is obviously smaller then his FW counterpart. Is it frowned upon to use the smaller model? Thanks

Despite him being laughably smaller than his plastic updated brethren that is probably the one most people would expect to see across the table.

I would go with the FW one or the Glottkin from AoS if I was buying one today.

Technically no new GUO has been released yet, so that is the official model (size issue or no). Meaning that the tiny one is the official size and using a bigger model is technically wrong. But realistically when the set is going to be updated he's gonna be at least glottkin sized (who is actually a smidge bigger than the FW one), since his two updated brethren are also that size right now.

If that's the one you have, there's no reason anyone should reject it; older models are usually smaller and sometimes come on smaller bases (if you've ever seen the 2nd edition hive tyrant, you'll laugh at how comically small he is; he's actually not that much bigger than a current Tyranid Warrior). However I would only do this if it's the only model you have and you don't wanna buy a new kit; intentionally finding old models to intentionally abuse their size difference is pretty frowned upon (note that I said "intentionally". Most people just want to play with their legacy models so this isn't the case across the board).

Agreed. I have both the old keeper of secrets and Lord of change and will not be getting the newer models any time soon? Why should you have to update your models if you like what you have?

You shouldn't use the GW one for Scabeiathrax the Bloated, the named GUO of FW, who is the FW model. Other than that the GW model is the current official GUO model, as ridiculous as that may seem.

I remember when that model first came out - a solid chunk of metal it was too - and thinking it was gigantic.

The regular model shown makes sense for a standard GUO, who really isn't that much of a tank statwise. The FW models is really Scabbie, who's more than 2x the powerhouse and physically sized accordingly. Playing a regular GUO with the Scabbie model seems like a huge disadvantage to me, you're making a giant LOS'able target out of a T7 W12 model.

For what it's worth, Forge World currently just has it listed as a "Great Unclean One - Greater Daemon of Nurgle". Maybe they're going to phase out the named ones?

Me too. Never got it, tough; I only had the old Bloodthirster and the Lord of Change, all in metal, for my WHFB Daemons.

Scale creep is a thing.

I hope thy don't phase out the model, tough - is everything that is right in doing Nurgle without over-doing it.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

All of the FW GDs have been listed simply as "Greater Daemon of (god)". It's rare that the store listing would actually put their name there. Ol Scabbie and co aren't going to be phased out.

I hate the GW Unclean One, so ugly. And not even the "good" kind of ugly. Can't even tell wtf is going on.
FW one is a little better but it's huge compared. Wish there was a better option because right now I'm avoiding taking a GUO in my army because it's such a bad model

There is a better option: the Glottkin.

If you don't want to limit yourself to GW, Heresy's Madame is the best GUO sub out there IMO.

The current GUO is an ANCIENT model. Like I think it's legal to drive and to drink (not necessarily in that order).

If ya want to go even older, this thing is technically legal to field as a GUO:

Yes, that's a 40mm base. He's tiny as hell. Goes a long way to show how scale creep has happened over the years.

There is also that company that produces "space crusade" models that are knock off GW stuff. Except as scantily clad women. They have a GUO equivalent and it's one of the more disgusting models I've seen.

Yeah so was looking at the Glotkin.
That Madame is rad! It's like Ursela on ugly steroids

Yeah my hobby shop has one used in a case for like 20 bucks. Weighs as much as a brick. Its also not great but at least its legible. Almost bought it but it's pretty small compared to new models. I think the Herald is taller

Here's my own one in some actually Nurgly colours (plus added Plague Sword) so you can see how she fits.

I have two of the original great unclean ones (can't quite remember why) and when I get around to purchasing the newer one they'll be used as daemon princes

I really like the old GD models and I'm annoyed at myself for not picking up the Bloodthirster/Lord of Change before they got replaced with the current plastics.

I currently own two of each of three of the GDs, all in metal. Took a while (and a good sum of cash) to gather them all but no regrets; they have a sort of derpy charm to them.

still though, the new ones look badass. I just wish GW would hurry up and release the last two

When you realize that the GUO and the Keeper of Secrets have basically identical stat lines, you realize the stats are to fit the tiny model. A Lord of Change having more wounds than nurgle?

The problem with GUO isnt their model, (which i actually quite like) but their slowness of a walking monster with a 7 inch move.

Keeper for the exact same stats moves much faster.

I don't see any reason why an OOP GW model should not be usable. If someone gripes about you using an older model, I'd tell them to suck it.
